Are you saying that my impression was actually, at the very least, somewhat correct?

That impression being, even though a separate OLED section came out on top, the forum admins decided to go with the distant second choice instead?

I suggested this well over a year ago.

Why the additional "Flat Panels General"?? Unless I'm missing something, LCD & Plasma have there own forums. Is there a fourth tech I wasn't aware of?

.
.
Recording free OTA TV for 'time shifting' has been here since 1975. Will there be DVR's to do the same when ATSC3 obsoletes existing DVR's??

There are quantum dots, e-paper or laser displays. But more importantly, display discussions not related to a particular panel tech (e.g. new hdmi standard, adaptive sync) or multiple panel techs (lcd a vs oled b)

^^^^That.

I believe that a forum should operate on a tag system for this very reason. AVS could convert to this easily by having the tags be the existing forum names, and then convert the tags slowly over time.

Aren't "quantum dots" a subset of LCD panels?
Laser displays in consumer products? The only one I knew of were the ill fated Mits rear projection TV's from a number of years ago. (Note I stated "consumer" since after all this is a consumer forum isn't it?
"e paper" miniature displays for more electronics toys hardly classifies as "Home Theater" devices which is what this forum is about isn't it?

My point was "including "Flat Panel general" does include LCD panels which duplicates the existing forum. Same goes for that duplicated "Digital Recorders" forum. DVR, PVR; pretty much the same thing, both are "digital" video recorders.

I was not around AVS when 1080p was a new thing, so I have to ask - did 1080p "Full HD" have its own forum at any time in the past?

It makes no sense to me that anyone would want this. A 4K forum? Regardless of display technology? A major step backwards IMO.

I really doubt it. The point of forum partitioning is to facilitate discussion. Not to use clinical OCD to make sure every sub concept has its own place.

Once again though, tags solve this.

I was asking because if 1080p/Full HD did not ever have its own forum, then I do not see why 4k/2160p should.
