I have the UA .... Wondering if you can post pics.... Not sure if it would matter but want to do a stare and compare of 4k with hdr vs mine 4k without hdr..... Of course viewing the pics might not be a real test .....

Anyone have any input if I should set the xbox to 24 bit color 30 bit color or 36 bit color???

Wondering if it even matters or may bring 4k movies to life a little with higher color bit depth

Does the eg9600 even support over 10 bit depth?

Quick question, did you get all green check marks from the "4K TV details" screen? I only got a green check on the TV resolution line...

Just have to mention I just watched Oz the Great and Powerful in 3D and it was awesome. I have the Philips UHD player. I set True Motion on when I watch 3D. Very little cross-talk and, while fast motion is always somewhat imperfect, 3D on a UHD set is as good as it gets. If you haven't seen a 3D blu ray movie yet, I think you may be pleasantly surprised.

Hey guys I've been reading through this thread I want to pick up a 55EG9600. So if I am understanding this correctly there is a UA and a UB version and only the UB version has the updated HDMI 2.0A specifications that allow for HDR content? How much luck have people had ordering these online and getting the UB version delivered out of curiosity?

Does anyone have a stand for the 55 inch version they're not using? I'd pay $50 plus the cost of shipping...

Anyone else having issues with HDMI ARC audio passthrough?

I'm having issues getting HDMI surround audio (Dolby, DTS, or LPCM) to pass through properly via ARC to my speaker setup, it only outputs 2-channel stereo PCM for me

My set up is
55EG9600
Sony DN1050 AVR connected via HDMI 2 ARC

Only way I get surround is via the built-in apps like Netflix and Hulu and through my Xbox One, somehow it can transmit a surround sound signal and it displays on the INFO menu when I look

Xbox One INFO HDMI 1 and 3 (tried both)
16:9 , 1080p, DTS

DISPLAY on AVR : DTS 3/2.1 channel

but any other device I use, be it my cable box or PS4 or Apple TV4 and it can't receive surround audio for some reason, just says linear PCM stereo. I know PCM is uncompressed versions of Dolby and DTS but I select the Dolby/DTS options on the PS4/AppleTV4 and it doesn't seem to make a difference on what its outputting and the PCM I'm receiving is not the surround version, just the stereo one.

PS4 / Apple TV4 / cable box INFO HDMI 1 and 3 (tried both)
16:9 / 1080p / PCM

DISPLAY on AVR : PCM 2.0 channel stereo <- this is how I know it's only stereo, have to use faux surround to upscale (Dolby Digital EX, DTS neo)

Anyone know a fix??? Can't wrap my head around this, really want this to be a streamline set up where I the media consoles just have a direct connection to the TV and the TV passes it through properly to the AVR like HDMI ARC is suppose to do

Living room: 65" Samsung HU8550 4KTV + SEK3500u Box, Sony STR-DN1050 7.2ch AV receiver, 2x Mythos STS (fronts), 2x Mythos GemXL (sides), Mythos 7 (center)
Loft area: 55" Sony X850b 4KTV, Onkyo NR616 7.2ch AV receiver, 2x Polk Monitor 60s (fronts), 2x Polk Monitor 30s (sides), Polk CS1 (center)
Room 1: 55" LG ec9300 OLED HDTV, Denon E300 5.1ch AV receiver, pending speakers
Room 2: 46" Samsung LED HDTV

Both can stream HDR via the television's apps. The difference is in hooking up an HDR player. The UA will NOT pass through the HDR via HDMI while the UB will. So, if you plan on getting a UHD player as most folks probably will, it really is important to get the UB version. If you're buying locally, simply look at the box and it will say either 55eg9600UA or 55eg9600UB. If you're purchasing online most places can not guarantee either.

Recently most folks were reporting getting the UB version with the theory being the UA models, being the "old" version, were probably sold out. However, there have been reports on this forum of some people getting the UA version very recently and we're assuming these were the ones stuck in the back of some warehouse somewhere. There appears to be fewer and fewer of the 2015's left.

IMHO, the UB version is well worth the hassle or little bit of extra cash. I have the Philips UHD player hooked up to my 65eg9600UB and couldn't be happier. In fact, when I watch movies in HDR I'm almost giddy because it is that much better. Personally, I'd either go with the UB or wait for the C6 prices to drop (which may take awhile).

Fry's did it again. They have the set for $2,097.20 via today's promo code (through the 13th). I'm guessing that will be the lowest price. At least I hope so as I don't think you can get two price matches on closed out items. Funny thing is I don't see the TV listed in their email or promo web page. I just happened to see the blue price tag at the store and had them look it up.

That is insane if true (I believe it though). Astoundingly good price...I should go on down to my local frys....convince my parents to move up to an oled....

Edit: the promo code is 30% off select lg tvs, making the normal $3000 almost exactly $2100

I guess it applies to 2015 oleds

Makes the 65EF9500 the same price, and the 55 inch versions both sub $1300 (by far the cheapest they've been).

On the promo code it does say open box and demo only but maybe if you're lucky enough to find a store that has normal, unopened stock, they'd give it to you for that price?

Did you ask?

You can also check sometimes by going through the checkout online and seeing if it says open box or demo anywhere

My store has one left (NIB). They are the same price and the only difference is on clearance promotions I believe they won't markdown open box/demo items the (additional) 5% they usually do.

Ya you can get the 55 for $1257 only. SO CHEAP! But Frys is NO where close to me. I couldn't get Dell to price match because Fry's says "Open box or store demo only" on the item page.. even though the price is for new units as well.

Did the content providers or LG do something to turn HDR capability off on the EGs? All of the content from Amazon and Netflix that used to stream in HDR months ago no longer indicates that feature, or flags my set to notify.

What settings do you guys use for expert 1?

OLED/contrast/brightness , brightness most specifically.

PROUD new owner of a 65" 9600, got the last one at Austin store (had an open box, UB model manufactured 02-2016 (602 is serial #) , 40 hours floor model-- previous person apparently returned because they didnt realize they bought the curved model, they said they put in on display on the floor a few days ago-- seems plausible for the low mileage but who really knows I have a 30 day return policy to not worry

Got it $1947+tax, $2100 out the door.

Used the Fry's coupon and 5% managerial override for open box,

They didnt want to do it, I had them escalate to see what could be done since it was seeming like they agreed to it, and they did

Still got 30 days in case I get cold feet, but wow, dwarves the 55" completely!

Moving 9300 the bedroom, and selling my Samsung LED 55" 120hz,
Also got 9300 used earlier this year in February for $1000, buddy does wall mount installs and a family was wanting to get rid of theirs since they moved up to a 65" (I believe SUHD though)

ALL in on OLED woot woot

I think it will be a while if not forever before another deal like this crops up had to seize the moment

For even more peace of mind will probably buy the 3 year of warranty for 171 just like my 9300 eventually .. Within 180 days

I did this and it isn't easy plus the service menu is not easy to work with. If you are under warranty they will send some one out to do it. Probably for the best.

Really? Isn't it just a matter of changing from PCM to 5.1 DD on audio out optical line item? 11 or something iirc?

Didnt work properly on 9300 anyways, I think just 9100 but I dont care.

Dont care to adjust it on my 9600 either, since I use xbox one for blu ray and Apple TV pass through with optical hooked up directly to receiver through that

Use LG sound for PCM of cable box (its fine with Pro Logic II), and DLNA/built in apps that do 5.1 anyways

When does HDR for Netflix app come out on 9600? I think I read a post saying business insider source (hopefully credible one, that alone isn't assuring enough) LG guy said it would be this week right? Will I also have to update firmware?

Just a fun pic of my 9300 vs 65" 9600, how BIG this thing is (and pic of course even then doesn't do justice)

4k Stranger Things looks great!!!

I would definitely keep the firmware up to date. Not sure about Netflix and HDR. Curious if it will be an app update or another firmware plus app update if it happens.

It isn't straight forward by any means to get the harmony remote set up or find the right setting.
You have to log in to old harmony site and then program the button which is a long code but you can just copy and paste it. Then from the site you have to download the oldd software because it won't work with the new software. Then sync the harmony remote and it appears. After that you get into the service menu there is nothing that says sound passthrough or anything. I had to look through all the tools menu where I found with the help of google essd or something like that was set to PCM. If you change that to ac3 you get dolby digital passthrough. You have to reboot your tv first though.

It was a pain in the ass but I love that I do not have to change inputs on my reciever now and whenever you change anything on the tv with cecc on it auto inputs my reciever to tv. So now I don't have to worry about it i can flip my tv back and forth to whatever and my reciever input can just stay put.

Let me know if you or anyone else wants to give it a go. I can post more details. Of course do it at own risk plus if you are under warranty you might just want to get a tech dispatched.
