It's off on the tv, my receiver is sol old it doesn't have that option. I ordered a pioneer vsx-90 to hopefully solve the issue.

I'm still on the fence between this model and the Samsung UN65KS8000. How far away from the screen are you sitting? Are you seeing the screen door effect if you are close? And because it has got a almost non-existing bezel, does it "appear" smaller than a regular 55" screen?

The one thing I'm seeing on video reviews of OLED in general -- having never had one previously -- is though the contrast is unbelievable, the insane black levels obscure details in really dark scenes. Does this happen? I'm guessing HDR on the newer OLED models somewhat would rectify this? Again, I'm guessing based on what I have read, having not owned an OLED, and not seeing this model in stores.

THANKS!!!
I'm sitting about 7 to 8 ft away and I don't see any of that. Also the TV doesn't seem smaller either though I think this distance is probably the sweet spot. I have a 55" downstairs that I sit about 12 ft from and although I wouldn't say it feels small, I would say I wish I had a 65" there for sure.

Haven't had any issues in my short amount of time with the TV that I felt like I was missing any details in the shadows.

Does webos 2.0 plex app support 24p playback? Or does it default to 60hz? Thanks in advance.

The beat up box may be of concern, but if the set itself is undamaged I probably wouldn't worry about it. Did you make a note of the box being beat up on the shipping paperwork when you received the TV?

As for the date, it does seem as maybe Amazon could be clearing old stock. I was also hoping to have received a more recently produced set, but as long as the set provides satisfactory performance I'm okay with it. A few days in, I'm still very happy with the PQ, and am happy with the purchase.

Mine just came from Amazon last week and it is a 509 date code. Came double boxed and both boxes looked perfect. Picture has been great so far.

Yeah, the packaging damage is my biggest concern as well. I did note it and Amazon is generally good about returns/exchanges anyway. The age would be a slight concern even without the speculated early-run issues as electrolytics can dry out to a degree if not used over a year.

I plugged it in this weekend and I noticed some pretty obvious tint issues immediately. Right 1/3 of the screen is pink, left 1/3 is yellow. I may try one exchange, however, as even a few hours with a less than perfect oled would make going back to my old xbr4 difficult.

Noticed my first struggles with the TV tonight while watching Fury. Looked great up till the final stand as most of the shots inside the tank are very dark and the normally pitch black bars at the top and bottom of the screen began lighting up grey in the middle on both top and bottom. Very distracting as they were much lighter then anything on-screen and as the camera would switch scenes it would come and go.

Is this normal in others experience with this TV during very dark scenes? What causes it?

I haven't seen anything like that but haven't watched that movie on my oled. You don't have dynamic contrast on by chance ?

My suspicion is you brightness setting is not correct . Have you set that with a calibration disc ?

Not with a calibration disc. Just went by the settings from rtings.com which I think brightness is 55 or there abouts. Everything is turned off including dynamic contrast.

I am now a card carrying member of the 55eg9100 club....i just clicked the purchase button 5 mins ago on amazon. I struggled if i should have went with 4k LED or 1080p OLED....i did a lot of soul searching....hours of research...and i have come to the conclusion that OLED is where it's at in terms of PQ...Wish it was just 10 inches bigger(the biggest tv i ever owned was a 65inch DLP)...but i will have to trade off somewhere...Hope i made the right decision!

I believe 55 is too high for brightness you should check that setting with a disc. If you are using their white balance settings that could be a factor also..

Ok. I'll research that part and mess with the brightness a bit. I copied their 2pt and 20pt settings a few days ago and it made the picture worse so I just went back to default on those.

Other then what I saw last night I think the color and picture looks fantastic but whatever it was doing last night was a bit troubling. I'll actually try to snap a pic and post it if able to photo it clearly.

Good on the White Balance controls they do not transfer from set to set. It sounds like floating blacks , what is your gamma setting ?

Also check out the last few posts of this thread , could be that higher contrast from the Ratings settings . Try 80 to 84 range.

Gamma is at 2.2

Of course this morning I'm watching the same exact scenes and it's not doing it which worries me if it's just something to do with the set that will come and go or possibly get worse.

I was unable to follow that link btw. Comes back with an error.

Also it's possible it just might be harder to see today during the daytime as it was last night in a near pitch black room. Idk. I guess I will just have to keep an eye on it.

From the excerpt from that thread I read this doesn't quite sound like the issue I saw. This sounds like washed out or light blacks where they should be completely black?

What I saw last night didn't effect the entire screen. The movie itselfs color or blacks never changed, it was only the deep black bands at the top and bottom began showing grey or light through only in the middle third on top and bottom and would come and go depending on the scene. Almost looked like a blacklit led screen. Very strange and distracting.

Does this TV support 24p playback from WebOS apps like Plex and Netflix for instance? Or do they all stream at 60hz only?

No real way to tell but I believe Netflix, Vudu, and Amazon are true 24p.

Received the TV today. You're right that there is no way to tell since there is no info button where it details technical information of the display. From what it looks native apps run at 60hz, so there is some juddering going on. I mitigated it by adjusting TruMotion settings. Looks like I will need to get a mini-PC/NUC going so that it can output at 24p correctly. Kinda disappointing tbh.
