Sounds like they are compatible but just know this isn't sanctioned by LG.

The issue is with the ARC connection to the 9100, when I turn on simplink on the TV so that it can control the on/off of the SJ9, it only turns it off, not on. Plus when I turn on simplink on the tv the SJ9 switches its input to the ARC input, it does not stay on the HDMI input to the Tivo.

I still need to play some more with settings on the tv to see if that corrects the problem, plus still need to update the firmware in the SJ9. I think my HDMI cables are ok, they are Amazon high speed cables with ethernet about 1 year old.
After trying many different connection possibilities and settings I can say that the SJ9 does not play well with the 55eg9100 ARC.

Only one configuration works and that is to not use an ARC connection between the SJ9 and 9100. I won't go into all the issues with the ARC connection, but here is the way I ended up connecting everything. TIVO to SJ9 HDMI input (SJ9 only has one HDMI input), connect the SJ9 HDMI/ARC out to 9100 using HDMI in 1 or 2, you can not use HDMI in 3 which is ARC. So with this connection you are only using the 9100 as a monitor.

The only other connection that works is from the 9100 to the SJ9 via optical using LG Soundsync, but Soundsync only outputs PCM even from the TV's built in tuner and SMART apps. You can not pass dolby digital from the 9100 HDMI inputs over optical to the SJ9 (even with the service menu setting that allows that) as Soundsync only passes PCM. If you don't use Soundsync then you have AV sync issues that can not be adjusted out when using standard optical out.

So in my case I will be adding an HDMI switch to handle connecting more than one device to the SJ9 HDMI input port.

note that the SJ9 ARC connection does seem to play well with the 2017 OLED models which are ATMOS compatible, will LG have a firmware update for us at some point - I doubt it

LG OLED 9100 TV (2015) model - not ATMOS compatible?

I have 2 questions, one for the Dolby ATMOS from BluRays, and the other with streaming.

Question 1. ATMOS blurays -
Am I able to connect the HDMI from the bluray to the Samsung 950 ATMOS soundbar? Then connect the HDMI from the ARC port from the soundbar to the TV's ARC port?

Question 2. ATMOS from vudu, netflix.....
Is there a work around solution?

Number 1 should work. Number 2, I don't think the TV can do Atmos over ARC, but maybe your blu ray player can? Or another external streaming device?

How does a Switcher work to get ATMOS for LG OLED 1080 tv?

For Samsung K950 ATMOS soundbar:
I assume ARC will not pass atmos from tv to the soundbar for this model, so then no atmos from netflix or vudu.

Which switcher to get, and does it work?

The eg9100 will not pass ATMOS via ARC connection, only the 2017 LG OLED models can pass ATMOS, and even then it seems people are having issues connecting it to the K950. So you will need to connect your devices to the HDMI in on the K950 to get ATMOS.

There are some posts on the LG SJ9 AVS forum of switches that can pass ATMOS & Dolby Vision.

I put them on auto and let the tv upscale. I find it especially useful for 480 programs on cable. Dtv upscaling to 1080 will usually just stretch these horizontally, but the LG will appropriately zoom on 480 letterbox and leave 480 pillarbox alone with a quick change to zoom settings. And I find no difference in upscaling quality with normal programs (haven't checked with test patterns)

Picture a Transparent Pink Hue!

Yesterday I returned from regular programming to a DirecTV DVR 1080p show I have just previously been watching. To my horror the DirecTV DVR video was transparent pink! I then went to a broadcast channel were the video was normal. Upon returning to the previous DirecTV DVR show the image was normal. What could have happened? Is this a prelude of a major failure?

Thanks

Most likely a handshake issue , especially if you are changing resolutions .

Probably an HDMI handshake error. I think this happens when it sends RGB instead of YCbCr and the TV expects the opposite. That's why it was normal when you switched away then back. It could happen to any TV.

This has happened to all my televisions. The $htt that freaks me out is when everything goes black and you have no idea if your television shut off, the power went out, or its just my $htty Dish Network screwing up again. I sat watching last nigh5 and evrything goes black on my F8500. I start changing channels(sometimes channels will go dark) frantically because I have no clue whats going on and nothing is happening, complete darkness. I turn of the tv and turn back on....nothing. I go to grab a cable to make sure it just didnt come loose and then I get a Dish logo saying its rebooting. I was pssed. I was watching the end of this stupid show on History about H.H. Holmes being Jack the Ripper and they were getting ready to say something interesting when everything cut off. I HATE YOU DISH NETWORK!!!!

Next time this happens switch TV INPUTS using the remote...it's a quick way to determine if it is the TV or the Sat./Cable receiver. Also you can click the Home Button on The TV Remote and see if the APPS work.

I've had this happen when switching between a chromecast and HTPC. Seems like switching back and forth didn't fix the issue but my switch is the Pioneer receiver. I can't remember if it was switching off the TV or the stereo receiver that fixed the issue. I think rebooting the chromecast may have fixed it on one occasion.

I've noticed a problem with my 55EG9100... on a black background I'll get 'snow.' Like white artifacting almost like the noise you get when watching a movie in the theater from a film reel.... has anyone gotten this recently?

Do I need to send it in for repair?

I am moving to a new build home and thinking about wall mounting. Since all the official mounts have dried up, has anyone used this? I've seen the other thread about building something home made but I am not handy and this seems like a reasonable price. VESA 200x340x195 Mount Adapter Plate

Hi everyone. My OLED just suddenly turned off and won't turn back on. The red standby light is on. I've tried unplugging it for ~10 minutes until the red light faded; plugged it back in and still nothing. When I try to turn it on directly from the console, instead of the remote, sometimes the red standby light flickers ever so slightly.

Any idea what may be wrong?

Thanks.

Should I call LG or is this a DIY? Read elsewhere that it might be a capacitor? Any guidance would be appreciated as I don't know where to start.

So service menu tweak is available/necessary to pass Surround sound out of optical out on this tv?
If tweak is necessary, is it easy to do?

(EDIT)
Forgot to mention I'm interesting in passing through from other HDMI connected devices into this Tv out of tv optical into my surround sound system since my sound system has no HDMI input.

Do you mean over hdmi? Optical passes fine from coax on mine but not external inputs.
