Thanks for the suggestion I might consider this.

Ordered a 65EF9500 via HHGregg 3 weeks ago and had it delivered last Thursday 509 S/N. All was great till last night as I was watching Direct TV the screen went black. I pressed the power button and blue and green streaks came across vertical on the bottom half of the screen. TV gets power, disconnected all HDMI cables, I push the power button on the remote the LG light flashes for a few seconds and nothing on the screen. Anyone heard of this happening at all?

Thanks

There are two different feeds for Red Oaks. You need to make sure you select the UHD version and not the HD version. I made that mistake once.

Yeah both 55" at 7ft. There is a lot more blocky artifacts with the 55ef9500 on cable and other sources such as Netflix. The color is still better on the 9500 though. I know Netflix is not a good source to test from but the eg9100 doesn't have this problem it's crystal clear.

I'm sure some of you without this receiver can answer as well but I figured it made sense to ask those with the same set up as me. Of course I welcome all responses.

I have the TV and receiver connected to one and other thru their respective ARC HDMI ports and I get a 5.1 signal from all content whether it be cable (I have FIOS), aps from the TV like Netflix or Amazon or Blu-Rays from the PS4.

My question is 2-part and pertains to video quality. I have my cable box and PS4 connected to the receiver as opposed to the TV and I originally had the receiver set to pass through and both conversion and i/p scaling set to off. When I would take the TV's "magic remote" and put the cursor on the top of the screen it would tell me the picture was 1080p. Yesterday I switched the conversion and i/p scaling on and now when I check the top of the screen with the remote it says the picture is 2160. Is the receiver doing the upscaling or the monitor? Should I connect both the cable box and the PS4 directly to the TV instead and if I do this will the picture improve and continue to read as 2160 regardless of content?

Thanks in advance for your replies and advice.

I have a 5010. From what you wrote it's the receiver as in the settings of the Marantz if you trun on the i/p scaller the receiver is then doing the up scaling.

Guys, thanks for the responses. Can anyone here tell me when you are directly connected from your cable (or satellite) box to the TV if you click the "magic" remote at the top of the screen does it say 1080p or 2160p? I think I remember Buzz or someone mentioning that if it didn't convert the incoming signal to 2160 it would only cover 1/2 the screen? If that is the case then shouldn't it read 2160 or do I have it backwards and its telling us what is being input not output? I'm planning on checking this out when I get home but figured I'd kill some time during lunch and ask. Gracias.

That makes sense, thanks. What about audio? Does everything coming in from cable ( I have FIOS if it matters) come up as PCM? I don't remember seeing anything else up there but I've only recently started checking.

I'm seriously considering the 55". I just did a quick read about motion-blurring and learned about black frame insertion. What do these sets do to decrease motion blurring and how effective is it?

I'm going to be watching a lot of 1080i Dish network content.

Thanks.

I've had 2 delivered so far (and a 3rd this Saturday) and none had the shipping straps still on. I wonder why they are taking them off? Not like it ships like that. You can tell inside if the TV has been unpacked though.

Yeah I set it up last night on my 500M and saw them. Did a double take thinking here goes my TV. A part of me was a bit excited thinking I could go to the wife with it's broken and we need an OLED NOW!!!

The television screen is the retina of the mind's eye.

Reflection on the screen is very high IMO, so I wouldn't place it next to a window.

i know. I'm saying that it should do that if you have a capable 4k device and the title is offered in the 4k section.

Essentially Amazon should mirror Netflix. They have a dedicated 4k section but if you get a title thats 4k in another category it will stream in 4k.

When I asked the delivery guy about that (mine had no straps but you could see that it used to), he said he removes the straps and checks the TV screen for damage before loading it into the truck so it will not waste everyone's time by delivering a physically damaged TV.

Not sure if everyone's seen this (I don't recall seeing it posted here or in the 9600 thread), it's a bit old now but has some very interesting comments about some of the issues people here are seeing. It is comparing the 9600 to the Samsung but I think their points apply to the 9500 also:

http://www.displayandsoundcalibratio...sung-55js9000/

They talk about the vignetting, vertical bands, and banding and blotchiness. On the blotchiness/grainy picture in dark scenes some people report, I think this statement hits it dead on:

"The cause of these problems is excessive compression of the source and not the TV itself. It would appear that current compression algorithms allocate fewer bits to the very lowest luminance, relying on most TVs inability to display such low level details. The gradations further up are visible on any technology but are smoother than the blotches at the bottom end."

Their take on the darker edges and vertical bands as well as motion processing is also an interesting read.

As a customer, I'm not too impressed with BB tbh. Had 2 TVs delivered so far. One was delivered an hour before my 2 hr window and the 2nd one was delivered 3 hrs before my 2 hr window. And thats after getting an original 12 hr window lol. Even the cable company gives you a 4hr window.

I'd rather they be early then late obviously, but the 3hrs early was a bit inconvienient LOL... the 1 hr early one actually worked out better for me though.

If box is open, make sure serial number on box matches what is on the tv.

What to do with the free 49" tv

Mine will be delivered Nov 16 from Best Buy, when our new entertainment unit arrives. I ordered it about 3 or 4 weeks ago.
My free 49" UHD LG tv is still sitting in the box in which it was delivered. Has anyone tried to "trade it up" for a better unit? I wouldn't mind spending a couple hundred extra to get a 3D version or even more to get an OLED 1080. Is this an easy one or would I likely be fighting city hall on this?
