Quoting myself because this is beginning to remind me of Douglas Hofstadter's idea of a record that is designed to break a record player when it is played on it. Isn't it likely, nay inevitable, that all TV's will have areas where they fail very specific tests, but excel at in others and that all TV's can have images deigned for them that 'break' them? But in the end it is the whole TV experience that matters, not just the specific tests.

Sorry haven't been able to do any of the tests yet... Woke up this morning to the lovely surprise that my 65ef6500 dropped a thousand dollars since I bought it yesterday so I just painlessly got a grand back in my pocket. . Great way to start a day that's for sure...

I'll have football impressions later!

It's more glossy than the js9500 and the oled screens also make things pink. But its flat so it doesn't have the distortion like the curved ones do.

LG 55EF9500 and 65EF9500 OLED Owners Thread

I'm considering buying the 65" EF9500. I currently have a 75" Samsung F8000.

My viewing distance is ca. 10-12 feet.

Do you think I would regret loosing 10", even though the LG should provide better picture quality on all parameters compared with my F8000?

Thanks for any insights.

Whatever happened to that one guy who's been complaining for a year about the price of the TV being too high and how the 55" flat OLED will take 3 - 5 yrs to come down to $3K because the MSRP was $5500? Funny guy .

Took, what, a few days? I think Clevland was selling it for $3k ($3250) on day ONE.

If the MSRP is $3999 now, $3200 street is sounding a bit high, wink, wink .

I don't know about quality control in Poland, but maybe that's why us in the states are struggling because our panels are assembled in Mexico. Not that the laborers aren't skilled, but I had read that lg's facility in Mexico was quite deplorable.

IMO for 10ft down to 55" is acceptable, 12ft 65" minimum. I would probably adjust pretty quickly to 65" at 10-12ft but its really a personal preference.

Just FYI - I upgraded from a Samsung ES8000, which is the model 1year prior to the F8000. This TV offers a very considerable upgrade in picture quality, especially in darker scenes. The only downside relative to the LCD is that the total brightness output is much lower than the Samsung could muster, although not nearly as low as all of the Panasonic plasmas I've owned in years past.

I'm not at all familiar with the military exchange, how does the price of other TVs there reflect the prices civilians pay?

$2,499 seems like a pretty good price.

Most of the prices are close to what you would see in normal stores. I would say maybe 25% of their inventory is at very good prices like this. Just another example is the Sony 65x850c is listed as $2099 normal price. Although after my recent fiasco with Sony I could care less what they sell for lol which is why I'm looking at the oleds.

I am currently watching Ben Hur on TCM HD and this TV has far and away the best picture I have ever seen. it is what I have always wanted. There is no visible banding and/or noticeable vignetting even in dark scenes. The colours!!! OMG the colours - and the blacks!!! OMG the blacks.

So, I am failing to see how 'It doesn't look to me like the dark edges issue has really been resolved yet.'. Have you got one of these TV's - do you have an issue with black edges?
Do you have the 55" or the 65"?

Thanks Blake for pointing this out, I'm retired military (Navy) and didn't realize that the exchange dealt with tv's online. I can't believe that price, wish they had the 65" but at that price the 55" will do..
I've got to see if they charge shipping/handling and State tax but it looks promising, thanks again for pointing this out.

Thanks for the reply, I really hope I won't regret the minus 10" in picture size and instead enjoy the better picture from the LG.

I thought the LG was as bright as the Samsung?

Someone mentioned 95fL, and my F8000 is ca. 97fL.

I guess this answers my question about shipping and taxes.
Any experience with doing returns with the Exchange ?
