Also added a REL T5 sub that I wasn't using to the setup for a 2.1 TV setup. I'm considering whether to buy another LS50 for center channel duties, but if I did that I would also want to buy a new TV stand.

My AVR is a Marantz nr1605

And my main source is my 4k 60hz HTPC which I recently built and documented over in the HTPC forum.

What are your guy's setups like?

They don't, that's how.
Unless you are some sort of miracle worker they will not price match Adorama on their deal prices. I tried for a good 30 minutes with some people that were very helpful and wanted to get me the deal.

Also, best buy's fine print specifically says they do not price match bundle items.

Won't need to try that again though, with CP's wonderful pre-order price revelation

I have discovered a more accurate way of testing for the black curtain issue. I don't see it in 5% ire slide, but I have seen it pop up in content, mostly ones with fluctuating black levels. When the black level creeps up in the content, the flames will show in the area between 0 and 5% ire.

Easiest way to check this is to look at a 0% ire slide, which is all black. Turn your brightness so that its completely black. Then turn it one click up. The screen should be completely gray, but a very very light gray.

When I do this I can clearly see the vingetting, about 2 inches on each side and this is what happens with some content that don't have a consistently correct black level.

Does the 65" TV use standard VESA mounts? If so, what's the spacing?

Or do you have to buy a special wall mount?

No it's not a standard vesa. I think someone previously posted spacing. The top screws are farther apart than the bottom ones

So in short yes
I've been a little disappointed with Netflix 4K. Their normal HD content looked pretty nice already, but upgrading to 4K doesn't seem to add much (and real 4K content like the LG test videos/Life of Pi look much sharper). It looks like it is maybe not filmed at 4K originally or something? I've double-checked everything about my setup and then triple-checked with their support team.

Anyone brave enough to test this out on their set? Interested in seeing what it looks like with some people that have good looking 5% grays like me.

I am sure millage with vary from different sets but on the 65EF9500 it looks great and does appear to be shot in 4K or some variation of it. My only gripe with Netflix and 4K is the fact that's it's limited which is the same for Amazon. There is a TON of 4K material on youtube but some content looks amazing but some are just okay even though they say 4K etc.

Having bought TVs online and in store before, it is really nice to be able to exchange or return the set if you aren't happy with the panel. I'm not sure if it's worth the $1500+ difference between BB and Adorama though.

I'm really very tempted to drive to BB and just get the best deal I can and have a 65EF9500 tonight...
I purchased my 65EF9500 on Sunday, then saw the Adorama deal late Monday. Called Best Buy and they matched the price! As long as the online store is a certified LG retailer, they will match it. You can check the list of Certified retailers on the LG website. I didn't try to get them to give me the Free TV though, I figured that I would be pushing my luck with that. I would suggest that anyone who wants this TV to run to your local Best Buy with this site in hand and get it! Good Luck!!

If you leave it in that state for a while, does it start to go away, i.e. does it get better over time? Sounds like it's a transient issue which occurs when coming out of complete black, and my have to do with voltage swings. Just guessing.

I went to the BB in Christiana in Delaware. I actually live in Philadelphia, but it was totally worth the 30 minute drive south to save sales tax (Delaware has none!).

When I purchased the TV, I made sure to ask if I found it cheaper if they would match it. They said as long as they are an LG Certified Dealer, they will match. So I called Monday and let them know what I found, they put me on hold for about 10 minutes and confirmed the match and credited me the difference. I also just double checked my Credit Card, and the credit was issued yesterday :-).

When I called, I asked for their Magnolia department. They asked what it was about, I told them and just dealt with the main line I guess. I did select, recent purchase from the phone menu. Maybe I just got lucky. Did you goto the stores, or just call? I'm hoping to go back and get a Geek Squad deal as well...

A lot of early content is probably up scaled.

When has any content ever looked as good as those demos?

There are probably laser disc and svhs demos from back in the day which look a lot better than content ever released on those formats.

You should call BS on that! BB should match them, they are a certified online store. Now...the pre-order thing, well I guess that's how they can get away with it. If I were you, I'll go to a few other stores and push. You should show them their price match policy and also tell them that you have been told as long as they are on LG's certified Sellers list, they have to match.

I'm probably going to walk down to Adorama on the 4th and try to do an in-store pickup. I didn't realize their store was so close to home.

That is, unless I get wind of a reason to wait on some further price drops or a better deal somewhere else.

The waiting is the hardest part.

This push by LG will certainly move some TVs, as its got me interested in the 65". However, it can also work against them as I'm starting to see people take notice that the price is falling fast...so some people may be inclined to wait.

I just hope its not LG trying to move what are soon to be "old models" that launched late in the year, and then show these brand spanking new models at a lower price at CES. That's always the risk this time of year.

Still...for the right price...I'd love to pick up the 65" and let this shake out over the next few years. Interesting times for sure...

I got the same BS since they do not have it in stock. Guess some are lucky but I am usually not in that gene pool.

Here is their price match policy. Not sure why you think they should match it.

Best Buy states that they explicitly do NOT match Adorama. It has nothing to do if they are a certified online store or not. The exception to this may be if Adorama has a local to the buyer retail store AND has the item in stock:

We'll match the product prices of key online and local competitors.

The Details:
  • At the time of sale, we price match all local retail competitors (including their online prices) and we price match products shipped from and sold by these major online retailers: Amazon.com, Bhphotovideo.com, Crutchfield.com, Dell.com, HP.com, Newegg.com, and TigerDirect.com.
  • We match BestBuy.com prices on in-store purchases and in-store prices on BestBuy.com purchases.
  • If we lower our price during the return and exchange period, we will match our lower price, upon request.
  • Our Price Match Guarantee covers one price match per identical item, per customer, at the current pre-tax price available to all customers.
Our Price Match Guarantee does not cover:
  • The online prices of retailers not listed.
  • Contract mobile phones sold by any online retailer.
  • Products shipped from or sold by third-party sellers (Marketplace sellers) on websites.
  • Best Buy For Business transactions and BestBuy.com Marketplace items.
  • Competitors' service prices, special daily or hourly sales.
  • Any financing offers, bundle offers, free items, pricing errors, mail-in offers, coupon offers, items that are advertised as limited quantity, out of stock items, clearance items, open-box items, refurbished items, pre-owned items, credit card offers, gift card offers, rent/lease to own items, and items for sale Thanksgiving Day through the Monday after Thanksgiving, whether offered by Best Buy or a competitor.

If one waits a week or two it's a mute point. They can deny it based on the fact that they do not have it for sale right now only preorder. It does appear some have got them to budge, guess its pure luck because on my first call they didn't. They even went as far as calling Adorama as they are local to me to see if they had stock. Just preorder right now and no stock so that was why I got the "no". It doesn't matter as I have 40 days for things to flush out. I doubt the lower price will be only for pre-order so just wait it out is what I will do.
