Looked at it, not a big fan of the dark maroon base.
My experience, living with the G6, is different. I find the base with the integrated electronics and speaker bar to be an elegant blend of form and function. That the base extends the full width of the display makes it visually fuse into the stand it's mounted on. (I found a 58" wide furniture stand that's a perfect fit.)
The color is a good, non-reflecting choice, and I find the design makes the base/soundbar disappear when watching TV. I think it's a very non-distracting way to support a TV when it's sitting on a furniture stand.
And I like a stand mount. I put castors on mine so I can adjust the viewing distance as I wish. Want a more immersive display experience? Just move the set closer.
The overall design of the base is probably necessary to support the picture-on-glass, incredibly thin display. That picture-on-glass really shows off the OLED technology. I love it when my friends get a side view of the set for the first time.
BTW, I remember, as a kid, watching KTLA, the first TV station in Los Angeles, come on the air each late afternoon. I've seen a lot of TV's in my life, and the G6 is one of the most beautiful designs I've ever seen. The more I live with it, the better I like it.
