Hello,

Can anyone comment on the quality of the 4k uhd blurays on these sets compared to the ef9500. I know there was talk about the colors being saturated and potentially not aligning properly with the rec 2020 for the ef9500. Not sure if this was an issue with the samsung player or not but do you know if this set does a better job with those colors?

Apologies for missing this, had a bunch of notifications. Nope, I haven't sent it back to them. Still being used as I type this. They're doing a simultaneous pick up/delivery - picking up the EF9500 when they drop off the G6. Though I reported the issue immediately, I was sort of biding my time communicating with them (just checking in once a week as they suggested), because my plan was to order a 2016 model from Cleveland Plasma, and I wanted to be sure he got his stock in before I officially agreed to a refund. Turns out, I didn't need to worry about any of that.

Uniformity issues and vignette and yes I had to go through a panel replacement first

I became a proud owner of my G6 yesterday shipped from Robert at VE.

I'm really glad that I decided on the calibration. David Mackenzie did an incredible job. It was spot on. What a big difference it made from the regular settings.

I watched some of Avatar 3D last night. AMAZING!! I've never seen 3D look that good.

I also watched all of the new Star Wars Blu-Ray thru the Samsung UHD player & it looked incredible up scaled to 4K.

The Samsung player did an unbelievable job with the up scaling.

I tried watching a few 1080p files from my computer which is connected to my receiver which is also 1080p.

Unfortunately the up scaled files from my computer thru my receiver looked nowhere near as good as Blu-ray's up scaled from the Samsung player.

Has anyone been able to get 1080p computer files that look great either going directly into the G6 or thru a 1080p receiver? I run my receiver out directly to the G6 & I figured the G6's upscaling would be better. Maybe if I run my computer directly into the TV it would do better?

I eventually need to upgrade my receiver to a 4K receiver.

I also needed clean up the digital noise before watching a movie for the first time. About half way thru Star Wars Episode 7 up close faces seemed to have pixels that was crawling. It didn't do it in the first hour.

I didn't expect regular Blu-ray's up scaled thru the Samsung UHD player to look that great. I'll be watching all of Game of Thrones again on Blu-Ray now.

It can be a computationally-heavy workaround, but you could try setting your PC to output at 3840x2160 and then use MadVR for upscaling.

However, if your PC only has Intel integrated graphics, then using high-quality MadVR settings may very well be too much for it. If you're someone that's paranoid about doing upscaling at all, you could alternatively try plain old 200% nearest neighbor.

Have been following this thread for some time and have been eagerly awaiting it's launch here in Singapore. LG held a media preview event yesterday and a local tech forum provided a report which had a specifications listing of the E6 and G6. Based on the specs, it lists the E6 as having 4 HDMI 2.0a ports. Unfortunately the G6 is priced a whopping additional US$2.1k more than the E6 locally as compared to the 1k difference in the US.

Interesting that the B6 isn't even on the chart.

Given that the Singapore market is small, they may not introduce it or possible wait for the 2015 stock be fully depleted before they introduce it in the 2nd half of the year. I'm just bummed with the huge price variance between the G6 and E6 here.

Even more interesting is it showing 2 of the hdmi ports on the G6 as being HDMI 1.4. I'm certain that's not correct.

More confusion on possible different chipsets from this article on the debut of the TVs in the UK:
https://www.avforums.com/article/lg-...y-vision.12512
The article implies that the chipsets are the same in G6 and E6 but different in the B6.

Quotes from the article:

Whether you feel the E6 is worth the £500 premium over the B6 will depend on how much importance you place on built-in sound quality and 3D support. However LG also hinted that the picture quality would be incrementally better on the E6 and G6 due to the different SoC (System on Chip) implementations being used - which also might influence your decision....

The incremental differences in picture performance between models is a result of the different SoC implementations being used. The E6 and G6 models have a more sophisticated SoC implementation because of differences like the built-in soundbar and the engineers have taken advantage of this to achieve a slightly better picture quality performance.

Now we're just going in circles. I thought that article was prior to the latest contact with LG saying they were the same. I suppose having all of these sets out in the wild and tested will provide the real answer.

The latest contact with LG was just an email someone here got saying the support / salesman stated "their documentation" says they are all the same. Of course the documentation from LG has always said this, but it was a comment from a higher up at LG to HDTVTest stating they took advantage of the extra Horsepower in the beefier SOC to improve the picture quality, etc.

Would you mind posting your settings that changed after the calibration. Ive had my G6 for a week now, I upgraded from the EC9700. So far the biggest improvment I can see is the banding issue I had with the EC is fixed with the G6. I have the settings that Chad arrived at when he calibrated the EC but don't want to use them for the G6 yet.
Other observations, as others stated the OS is way faster, menu tone is much better, seems to be a bit more pop of overall range than with the EC, but not sure if the HDR from Amazon is that much better than the UHD is was getting on the EC, using Bosch as an example. So Im glad I switched for the banding as much as anything else. Will get a 4K blueray player soon.

Wasn't it discussed a long time ago that no matter the type of Panel LG makes, didn't they always have some type of banding issues?? Even their LED/LCD and plasmas have this and it was never fixed, idk why people think OLED will be different. Seem inherent to the display manufacturer, and never fully goes away. But my thinking is, if it shows on a slide, which is not what I watch when I get home from a long day at work, does it even matter if its there? If its not in content, then what does it matter? Slide for me would be used to check for any huge defects such as lines of dead pixels, or cracked screen or to make sure the screen actually works.

But on the flip side for 8K$ I would probably run a crap ton of tests too, but I don't have money like that so whoever buys this set obviously has money to toss around like candy at a party.

Anybody with this TV have a premium or ultra DirecTV subscription? And if so, have you watched the Masters in 4K (channel 106) and how does it look?
