My bad I misunderstood your statement. I gathered that they could fix it iand the fix is out but would never give it us

Why do you say this stuff? You can always downgrade using the known method.

I'm from Europe and installed this new 'beta' firmware yesterday on my 55E6. To me the most important thing in this or any firmware update for the E6/C6 is that HDR game mode is no longer dim. If there are any bugs, and I haven't expierenced any yet, I'm fine with that untill the final version.

Did you lose your previous settings with this upgrade?

I mean, picture settings, audio settings...

I said that because someone in the hi-fi forum, where the beta fw came from, said that once installed there was no way to roll back to old FW. They stated its now like the 2017 and 2018 models where you cant roll back anymore. Have you tried rolling back to the old FW after the update?

No, every single setting was still the same. Of course it's always recommended to note down any (calibration) settings you would want to preserve. But I personally always default the TV after a firmware upgrade or downgrade.

I have absolutely no desire in downgrading this TV ever again after this firmware update. So in all honesty, I haven't tried to do so. But there's no reason to think it can't be done like it has been since this TV came out in 2016.

Look, if you're into HDR gaming, you'd want this firmware. Finally we can say goodbye to this awful dynamic contrast workaround LG suggested in the past when the new tone mapping was introduced along with the dimness. HDR gaming is now approximately as bright as HDR standard, without loss of detail in the brightest parts of the screen.

But if you're not into installing beta firmware that's also fine. You can always wait untill LG rolls out/pushes the final version of the new firmware.

I'm glad they fixed HDR game mode for gamers. I wish i could install the beta, but not available for US tv's at this time.

The current HDR game mode looks so good in a dark room. It is too dim for gaming during the day but at night, wow, it blows the other modes out of the water in terms of HDR pop and contrast.

Is it true that the floating blacks with DV over HMDI is a problem that was introduced with the 05 firmware and doesn’t exist with the 04 firmware?

The old firmware was bugged by dimness on HDR game mode, but in a pitch black room you could see what LG tried to do with the new tone mapping. The new firmware is the same only brighter. It's much, much better now and I believe as intended in the first place.

Hi. That was the previous version released in March.
As per the LG support webpage, that one only improved audio issues in the VUDU app.

I was referencing this post and related references that indicate that 5.30.25 is the new s/w.

mea culpa, it appears that 5.30.25 is for the B6, while 5.30.30 is the update for the E6.

Interesting.

Who does LG think they are, Samsung?

Bought a 40" Samsung for the bedroom last Black Friday at BB, and it immediately downloaded an update and changed the Terms Of Service (TOS) to indicate that you MUST register with them, and anything you tell them or they know about you, anything you do with the set, all belongs non-exclusively to them, and they can sell it or give it away to anyone at any time for any reason, and that you give them permission to spool ads to you while you're streaming content. If you didn't agree, they turned off all the 'smart' features, and you had a dumb TV. I took the set back the next morning, and in a loud voice explained exactly why I was doing so. As an aside, the set was garbage when it came to motion handling, and made me reevaluate the usefulness of rtings.com as a good site for revues - they thought the set was great. It was not even adequate.

There's a limit to the intrusiveness I will accommodate. TiVo already knows far more about me than I would like them (or anyone selling stuff) to know.

Seriously, this "We're going to hoover all your data and sell it, or you can't use our hardware/software" nonsense is just getting out of hand.

Yeah, A lot of that non-disparagement nonsense going around now.

I find it difficult to believe it will stand up in any court. For one thing, by definition it only allows positive reviews of a product.

I'd like to see LG (or anyone) sue one of the bigger review sites with deep pockets over a disparaging review.

The new LG End User Agreement is a work of art! They can do anything they want with your personal data, including packaging it with data they get someplace else and selling the combo for a profit. They do promise to keep your personal data private -- accept as needed to make money off of it. Or if that turns out to be too much trouble.

You promise to indemnify them for anything they do. And you promise not to complain.

The coolest thing is this applies to units which have ALREADY BEEN PURCHASED. It's not like you can get your money back or anything if you don't agree. It's just that continuing to use the device means you agree. You are of course under no obligation to agree. You may simply chuck the display into the nearest pit and be done with it.

That sounds really good indeed if the only change they make is make it brighter. Playing God of War 3 in a pitch black room has been the best HDR experience on my TV, by far...

Not quite true. All 4 inputs are HDR capable for the E6 provided you turn the input on in the settings but only 2 of the 4 inputs of the G6 are HDR capable. Yes, I know the G6 is the top of the product line for 2016 and the E6 is one step below it but bizarrely the E6 got all of its HDMI inputs being HDR capable while the G6 only got 2 of them.

Its same as the "Warranty is void if sticker is removed" stuff that the FTC deemed illegal.

Can the EU firmware be installed on US sets? With the GDPR in effect, it might be a good idea to switch to that if the TV tuner isn't used.
