I watched Spectre 4k disc last night on my E6 via my OPPO 203 in DV, and overall it looked good, but was disappointed how one scene looked compared to the BD version. Between the 1:42 and 1:44 mark, the scene is in a dark room, with near black background over most of the image. Watching both the DV and HDR10 version, I saw a lot of distracting near black artifacts. Almost looked as bad as streaming. After the movie was over, I switched to the BD version, and the same scene had no such issues. I would have to guess that however they mastered the 4K disc, they bit starved the near blacks compared to the BD. There was an earlier scene that it happened too.

Best 3D a active display on each eye Like a VR headset or Sony HmZ or the one i got.
But problem then is the pop out effects are less effective.
N its not as natural n easy to use as a pair of passive 3D glasses.

First time I ever saw that on my E6 with a 4K HDR disc. Wasnt the tv, because the BD disc had no such issues with that scene. No near black issues.

Near black handing is a processing or a panel issue? Either panel cant produce or processor not capable enough.

I've only paid cursory attention to LG OLED Series after purchasing my 65E6P. But I've been keeping up with everything to do with the 2020 X line. I've read each year has been incremental(but of course I think). Though 4 increments may be a significant upgrade. I know some here own other Series OLEDs. Could you please give me your thoughts on where I should set my expectations if I decide to purchase the 77CX? I appreciate any insight offered.

Or the source footage is trash. The better the set, the more likely it is to reproduce exactly what it's being fed, and sometimes what it's being fed is garbage. This is often overlooked all over this site.

I agree. There should be no reason why the near blacks on the BD version in that scene should be better than the near blacks on the UHD version, other than for a bad 4K encode. I think a lot of people don't realize that when it comes to streaming, most providers bit starve the near blacks, since there isn't a lot of information there. For LCD tvs, that isn't a problem as they can't hit 0% black. On OLED, if bit starving occurs in the 0 to 3% range, it becomes quite noticeable with blotchy artifacts. That's what I am seeing with the UHD disc. No other UHD disc I have, has that issue.

Yes sir. No reason for the defacto home video format to exhibit such things. I guess absolute blacks does have that drawback though.... the second you "play" in that 1%-3% area its painfully evident when things arent mastered correctly or the bit-starving is happening. Ugh!

Setting gamma to 2.2 would help improving black levels but then it affects perfect black...I guess

2016 LG OLED 65G6P and 65E6P Owners Thread

Well I was going to look at a 2020 OLED, but I give up . I never had to worry about motion for the past 15 years because of plasma tv , never had to use stupid motion controls or interprolation or stupid soe, and this great new technology ruined it . So dumb . Will have to wait for next tech . Bring back plasma !
I know it’s never going to happen ... why oh why did I sell my zt60!! Suckered into this 4K sample
And hold nonsense

Gamma will not affect perfect blacks. Brightness does. 0% black will still be 0% black if brightness is set correctly with gamma 2.2.

Don't think he will ever settle down with perfect motion on E6. 2016 oleds were not good enough in case of motion at all.

Perhaps it's time to give it a rest. Despite appearances lately, this is not a private chatroom. Get a hobby or something.

Sony A9G, you can buy it .........Its the time you will get good discount.......Waiting for 2020 oleds is not worth it I guess. Don't expect 2020 LG oled's motion to be as good as plasma's......Don't know what sony's upcoming oled will be offering though.

Ok I’ll try it and see . I can get one this weekend .
But I saw other people on the a9g forum also complain of stutter so I’m not sure what end result will be . Btw this wrinkle in time

Go over the the LG CX thread. The tv has DV issues, which will probably get fixed with a FW update. However, still issues with using TruMotion when watching 24p movies. So motion is better than the E6, but probably not enough to make you happy.
