Thanks for the reply. Will the clear panel noise function help speed up this process?

I've read hundreds of posts on every site I could find, and aside from maybe two other people, no one seems to mind or even has mentioned this.

Does everyone here watch their B6 in pitch darkness, or is this just something that everyone has either gotten over or accepted because of the all of the other wonderful things about this set?

I've got a nice, bright living room but mostly watch TV at night, with maybe one light on. I watch everything from Frasier reruns to 4K Amazon feeds.

I'd love to hear your opinions.

Yes, there is a red'ish tint to reflections, but it actually helps reduce the reflections, so it's actually a good thing. Without it, reflections would be much more noticeable. I actually consider this a "pro", not a "con".

Is there any real reason to run the manual comp cycles after you get time on the display? Or is it just for IR removal?

On xbox menus and in games for sure, but not in any movies yet. I just got it last night so I haven't tested a ton of things yet.

You are going to see more banding in menus etc not sure why but its pretty common. I would only worry about things you see in actual content.

HDR (game), like all the HDR modes, is only selectable when the TV receives an HDR signal.

If you don't have a game to test with, then play something in HDR from Netflix or Amazon and you should find it in the list of available HDR modes.

Anyone with the B6 from the UK using an Xbox One S and the Amazon app? I have a problem whereby 1. all videos play in HDR mode and 2. there is no 4K content listed (A search for UHD resulted in only a couple of movies like that Canyon one being available).

Same here... I would also call it pink. The anti-glare coating has a pink tint but its only noticeable when the screen if off and there is a reflection on the screen (from a window or light source) In no way does it effect the picture quality.

Indeed

Another question about comp cycles for anyone out there, I've noticed on my B6 when I ran a full comp cycle, I didn't get that red light on the back that I got with the C6 indicating the comp cycle running. I know the cycle worked because it cleaned up some uniformity issues and the screen turned on after an hour like it should have. It also didn't seem to trigger the short cycle a few minutes after being on for around six hours today. Is the B6 missing that light indicator?

Thanks!

Hi to all B6 owners,

I had an E6P last september but returned it because of too much banding but I'm very perfectionist when it comes to uniformity (although other members here all said it was unacceptable when they saw my pictures so it isn't just me). So I know a lot about the LG OLEDs already (the PQ is amazing!).

Now though, I am looking to buy a TV for my mother. She just watches cable tv. One company here has the following average specs for their signal:

1080i mpeg2 at about 13-18 mbps.

She is on the other company but I don't know their specs. I was told they take the 1080i mpeg2 signal from the other company and recompress it in H264 at a bitrate that I don't know about but it isn't confirmed.

My question is to B6 (or C6) owners that watch a lot of cable TV. I know OLEDs show the faults in the picture a lot and I heard some people say cable looked terrible for them. When I had the TV I didn't test cable TV as I don't watch that. I would like to know the opinions of owners that watch a lot of cable TV to know if I should go this route? How's the PQ with cable? How's the upscaling/deinterlacing of cable?

A lot of hockey will be watched with the TV. I know ABL makes it less ideal but it might turn out in her favor as she doesn't like overbright images and neither do I for that matter. I'm just wondering if it'll be terrible grey ice, etc?

One thing I'm afraid about is IR or burnin as I can't possibly ask her to be careful about that. She is not a techie at all and tv channels have static logos.

The other two TVs in my list besides the 55" B6 is the 49" KS8000 and the 49" XBRX700D or XBRX800D. She prefers max 50" but I asked if she could go to 55" and she said yes but I think she'd prefer 49". Not an option for OLED.

Thanks in advance for the help!

It's not vignetting. An example of vignetting is shown on the left. Take note how the outer right and left side edges are darker than the rest of the screen. Your slide on the right shows banding which is not to unusual and reports are it typically gets better (i.e., less noticeable) as the set ages. You could always try another set and hope for the best, the down side is you may get one with vignetting. (The color differences you see between the the examples is simply due to differences in room lighting and exposure.)

Statistics show the number one regret when buying a flat screen TV is: "Gee... I wish I would have gone bigger"
A rule of thumb is determine the size you want, then go at least one size bigger. My wife totally freaked out when I said I wanted a 65" to replace our 50" plasma. In truth the B6 its only 10 1/2 inches wider than our old Samsung 50" plasma. I asked her to please just let me try as 65" B6 in the family room and we could return it for a 50 or 55" if she wanted. Taking it out of the box she had some choice words... jumping on me about the size of the screen... but now two weeks later she said no way is it going back and shes glad I talked her into trying it.

1080i MPEG-2 @ 13-18 Mbps is pretty great for cable these days. I don't have cable any more but my local OTA HD channels, which of course broadcast in MPEG-2, some 1080i and some 720p, range in bitrates from about 10 to 17 Mbps and I think they look pretty darn great on my B6. (Some, of course, look better than others. ABC is at the low end of that range and is OK but nothing special; CBS and PBS are at the higher end and look beautiful.)

So based on that, I think the first cable company's signal would look great on an LG OLED. Hard to say about the signals of the company she has now, not knowing what their bitrates are. But if she's anything like my mother, she wouldn't notice the difference between less and more compressed HD signals, ha!

As far as image retention, it doesn't seem to be an issue with these TVs because they run cycles when they're powered off to erase any temporary retention. But if she tends to keep her TV on all day on the same channel (especially if it's a news channel with a permanent ticker strip along the bottom), well, maybe THAT would be a problem.

In my opinion, things like football and hockey look great on these OLED sets. Motion is great with that kind of content and I have no "banding" or anything with the football fields or ice. Never even noticed any ABL issues when watching hockey. Sports are great on these sets.

Hello all, just got a 65" B6 last night after owning a Kuro since 2008 (which I am keeping). Other than some banding which seems to be normal for a new set, mine is problem free and one gorgeous display. I am having a time adjusting to all the settings this thing has over the simple Kuro I was using though. Like how it automatically changes picture modes when viewing certain content and doesn't look like it can be changed, other than the settings for that picture mode. Can anyone direct me to some settings to try for the time being, like for UHD Blu-rays, HDR Netflix etc?

I've already been turning the OLED light down to 50 or so on every setting. Amazon HDR content like the Grand Tour defaults to 100 every time, even when selecting the next episode.

There is an "All Inputs button" on the remote. It is between the 3D button and the settings (gear symbol) button. Pressing it takes you to a list of Active and Inactive Inputs. From here, you can set the Icon for your input (e.g. PS4 is set to game icon). Clicking on that input (connected device) can then take you to the screen. You can chose your picture mode for that input. I have "game mode" for the PS4 input. However, if I start an HDR enabled game like "The Last of Us", it automatically changes to HDR game mode. On the Xbox One S, clicking on Netflix or Amazon will change from whatever mode you had the Input on, to HDR mode (unfortunately, this does not happen on the PS4 PRO, for me at least. The TV doesn't recognize HDR in my PS4 TV apps. Only in game apps). If you were to switch to TV apps, e.g. Netflix, it will switch to Dolby Vision (DV).

This is a great start that will have you up and running in about 20 minutes

My 65B6P looks best in ISF Expert Dark Room

I think you mis-read. I wrote: "..I just adjusted settings so as to reduce the darks merging into other darks and voila...very good picture."

I haven't calibrated or used any settings in particular as of now. Out of the box, on some TV shows, I noticed that people in dark clothing, if standing next to each other, looked like they were blending into each other. So I played with the contrast, brightness setting and oled light.
