I have no troubles streaming 4K content with 50mbps--in fact, I think the lowest my streams have dropped is around 43-45 mbps.

I guess what I'm trying to achieve here is video quality as close to UHD Blu-Ray as possible. While I know that streaming content is inherently limited, and will lead to compression no matter what, my goal is to at least smooth out those issues as much as possible.

So, what I'm really asking is, even though 50mbps has provided an adequate experience of streaming 4K content so far, will doubling my internet speed provide better video/picture quality? Or are apps like Netflix and Vudu limited to a video bitrate that doesn't exceed 50, 60, or say 70mbps?
It will not help whatsoever. You're essentially getting HD bluray quality when streaming 4k though if it adds HDR is a great benefit over standard content.

To me the small benefit of arc from a cable tidiness standpoint is not worth the hassle and flakiness, you gain nothing over optical from an audio standpoint.

AS far as I know there are no 'secret" bit rate encodes for UHD. Netflix UHD is encoded around 18 mbps. The only thing having a connection speed over 25 mbps is muliple streams at the same time. So a 50 Mbps connection should allow for 2 streams.

For those of you with a HTPC, while running Netflix, hit Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S. This should pop up window showing the available bit rates available.

I have a 10 mbps intenet conection, i thought it would be impossible to get 4k hdr with this bandwidth, but im watching Grand Tour on amazon and most of the time the quality is reported to be 4K and the mode is always HDR. Am i missing something here?

Maybe you actually get more than 10 or it buffers a little bit more but can continue watching?

I remember reading vudu only needs 9 Mbps for uhd streaming and I was able to stream that fine with my 25 max over wifi despite the tv being in the basement below the router.

I don't consider the switch as a similar device to x1 and PS4. The graphics aren't nearly as sharp and this will be extremely noticeable on a screen like this imo. It's fine for what it is but it's in a different category imo. It's basically worse graphical processing than the og x1 and PS4 and now 2 generations behind.

But what I guess I'm really saying is don't limit yourself to 2 out of 3 gaming systems because the switch is the 3rd. I think the switch should be it's own thing. If you want it just get it because the games and target are so different I don't think whether you own a PS4 and x1 should inform the decision to buy a switch.

Scorpio will be sweet tho I hope

Yeah for sure but even though the switch is no where near my PS4 Pro I still love the games. Sometimes I don't need full 4K HDR to enjoy myself. I have Zelda Breath of the Wild and it looks stunning on my b6. I mean amazing. Looks better than my last guardian game that's in 4K HDR on my PS4 Pro. Not lying I swear.

Yeah, that'd be my guess too. I know that a lot of times with Comcast internet (and probably other cable providers), you often get a little higher speeds than what you're rated.

That said, when I tried 10 Mbps internet a couple years ago, I couldn't stream 1080p from Amazon, although that was using a device that streamed everything in MPEG-4/AVC with a typical bitrate of about 10 Mbps for 1080p. The Amazon app on our TVs will fetch 1080p streams in the more efficient (lower bitrate) HEVC if available.

Ordered a 55B6 today. There are some improvements with the 2017s, and the Sony sure does look great, but I can't justify the extra cost.

I would have liked the 65, but those were going for a good chunk more too.

Anyway, looking forward to the unit. It will be replacing my 6 year old 50" Panasonic plasma. Should be here midweek. Will need to read up on settings, apps, etc.

I have paired 3rd party headphones successfully. I do find the bluetooth connectivity to be unreliable on my C6 tho works sometimes .

@Superman23 I am actually liking my new ps 4 pro even if im used to pc playing, i can't really see that much difference in games i tried compared to pc games. That horizon zero dawn is a great game. So much better to play with 65inch screen compared to 27 inch monitor...even if my monitor has gsync.

Horizon zero dawn is really the best looking game on ps4 pro for 4k and hdr?
I might buy it.

Netflix and Amazon's 4K streams are both in the 15 to 16 Mbps range (encoded in HEVC), although you'd need a little higher sustained throughput on your downstream connection to fetch those streams. A 20 Mbps connection might do it. I have 25 Mbps downstream service from Comcast (tests anywhere from 25 to 31) -- connected via ethernet, not wifi -- and never have any problems with 4K from any of the apps on my B6. My performance in that regard would be no better if I had 50 Mbps, 100 Mbps or even 1 Gbps service.

(That said, I *think* Netflix generally encodes more than one quality level at 1080p, so the picture may look better with a 10 Mbps connection than a 5 Mbps connection.)
Thank you for the incredibly informative response.

I upgraded my internet speed, anyway. Mainly for bandwidth purposes due to how much 4K content I stream.

This is what scares me about digital media. Until they get to the level of actual physical copies in terms of video and audio quality, I really don't want to see the blu-ray format go obsolete.

Looks like there's 2 Supermans in the B6 club now! Except your 07 and I'm 23. LOL! Welcome my friend! You're gonna love the B6. Best tv I've ever owned. I'm playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on it right now and the colors are amazing.

I'd consider Horizon Zero Dawn a must buy. 4K or no 4K, the game is great. On our OLEDs though, the game is great especially running on the Pro.

So, bottom line, has anyone used any particular SSD or Flash Drive model of at least 64gbs for this that you could recommend?

Am i the only one with this issue? Should any HDD, SDD or Flash Drive work?
Like Quebeckere ... when it comes to moving (or even playing) movie videos I've also used relatively large USB drives 32 and 64GB formatted NTFS. Personally I've never tried a HDD but have tried several SSD's with no issue. In fact, I now use a 500GB SSD drive exclusively with absolutely no problems. (It's a SSD drive I took out of a old laptop.) To connect it to the TV I use this adapter cable by Startech. IMPORTANT: Before plugging a drive into your TV... be sure to get it working on your computer first! (i.e., create partition if needed, make sure its set as a primary drive and the partition is active and is the drive is formatted NTFS... etc) If your computer can read and write to it... then your TV will have no problem recognizing it.

Just FYI: Windows 7/10 can be a little fussy recognizing a new SATA SSD drive especially when its attached via a USB adapter cable or if its never been installed before. Spoiler below shows the steps I followed:

Mario Kart 8 deluxe does look fantastic! Also it seems like an appreciable resolution improvement over the Wii U version I have too! Too bad you don't have a C6 though, turning on the 2D to 3D conversion for the game is actually pretty awesome!

Nice! I wish I was playing in 3D too! I agree too.....the Deluxe is definitely an improvement over the Wii U version. Crisper and prettier for sure. Race me on friends if you can. My user name is Ronnie in the Nintendo user id.
