Source is important. Even within the same show. Like on around the horn some of the panelists look washed out with a gamma haze but others are clean with no haze because they are in different studios feeding the video to the show.

Exactly! That's why I don't get too crazy about satellite or cable material. I put in a blu ray and I'm reminded that oh yeah my B6 is still pretty sweet. It's just a shame that cable and satellite can't clean up ther stuff.

What's everyone using to test out color? I've read the there's some issues with the CMS built into these and how it affects the traditional color bar patterns. Besides that, I'm not even really sure what to look for in a color bar test to begin with.

You have to remember though that @tokerblue had his set professionally calibrated so his might be a little more accurate.

if you have to tweak use the internal color filter with appropriate cal disc . or just decrease color to the 47 to 49 range tint towards green a few to several clicks that gets you in the ball park.

Is anyone using bt. 1886 for gamma in a dark room? I absolutely love the pop that comes with a darker gamma.

I am, and I set my Brightness by using the 0% panel with the -20RGB and 5 IRE to-3 tricks mentioned on here. However, since all this is new to me, I'm not sure if that dark of a gamma can be "correct" or recommended, or if it's more of a gimmick to get that pop.

Yes I am until I get my set calibrated. I love the bt. 1886 Gamma too. Check out the "How To Enhance The Near Black Detail" Thread. Most of them are also using .1886.

Turn down brightness. It will introduce some black crush but will get read of the dark gray blotches. I noticed them especially in low quality content like cable or streaming from ABC/FX etc. Let me know if he suggests a better fix though!

Bt1886 is the new gamma standard for the last few years it can look a little unnatural at first but once you get used to that "rich" picture hard to go back.

So I should just get used to using it? It does look a bit unnatural to me, and also incredibly dark (overly?) with -3 IRE 5 and the -20 RGB settings.

What date/country built is it? Also did you check the 3%, 5% & 10% gray screens?

Nah, there's no rule.

I use 2.2 with contrast enhancer at low and it look really great. Just use what you like.

Those TV need a LOT of tweaking from the user part. That one of the greatest fun. You'll learn to know what everything does.

yeah it really needs a custom tail down to 2.1 at the lower end. you end with an average of about 2.35

Gamma curves are a difficult subject as it seems to be more preferences. between BT.1886, 2.4, 2.2, all are good to use. None are really "incorrect" or "inaccurate." Different sources were graded with different gamma curves in mind. Go with what looks "best" to you overall. We all have our opinions. Calibrators have their opinions. Some coincide, some don't. For the longest time I was a staunch 2.2 user, but after trying 2.4 or bt.1886 on the OLED, I actually like the pop that it gives. I know chadb sets most of his calibrations somewhere in the middle at 2.3, but that is darn-near impossible to do for those without meters.

Anyone else is using Colour gamut "Wide" like me?
I have read some posts, some said having it on "wide" is good.
I often keep the setting on "wide" or "extended"..

WOW! game graphics sure have come a long way. The life like detail that starts at 50 seconds is really amazing. Just FYI: I didn't view it via any of the LG built in apps. My B65P is set up as a monitor via my PC and a GTX 960 a GTX 960 4GB SSC Gaming GPU.

Not the best screen capture but you get the idea...
If you want to have your mind blown, go to KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS' YouTube page, and watch the Death Stranding trailer in 4K.

The amount of detail on the tank, to the facial performances of Guillermo del Toro and Mads Mikkelsen, is mesmerizing.
