I want it for the HDR dimming issue in game mode. I can make it bright enough but I need to put dynamic contrast on high which causes clipping and doesnt look to great.
If your using the Xbox One S the next update scheduled for October should fix it ( unless your in the newest preview update then it's already there).

If it's PS4, the last 2 updated 4.7 & beta 5.0 have fixed this as well.

Brightness is better now & I can leave game hdr to original settings and dynamic contrast off.

Do you have the new dashboard and 1080p game DVR recording. If yes then you should recheck your game settings and redo the hdr settings in the game settings menu

For you guys that are gaming on your LG OLED tv's, are you having any issue with burn in? I can get a great deal on a 2016 65 inch B6 (still more than I wanted to spend by quite a bit but I really love OLED) but I will be playing quite a bit of my PS4 Pro on this TV and I'm worried about burn in. As a side note, I am coming from a Panasonic plasma that I've had basically no issues with image retention or burn in.

Thanks, I had been holding off on updating due to HDR game mode. But if thats how LG wants it I might as well install the last 2 updates.

Don't think you can force them. It depends on what level you are in the preview program. I know it sucks to wait but if all goes well most likely mid october for everyone

That is great to know! Looking forward to that new Xbox update. Have you used the new Light mode? If so, is it much better visually using that on OLED? Have you tried out the Forza 7 demo? Game looks amazing and that’s just on the One S. Surely it’ll look even more amazing on the One X. Glad to see they made improvements to the HDR aspect overall on the system to combat the dim issue.

No issues so far. I often play hours especially during weekend...have had this tv about 5 months now. Really great for games. Im guessing those who get burn-in have perhaps faulty panel. I'd say go for it.

Actually no, i have been fine so far even when checking with the red screen test, all is good. Xbox One S has a great new screensaver thats actually built in now to specifically help prevent OLED image retention/burn in https://www.windowscentral.com/how-n...en-saver-works

Thanks guys that's good to know. One other question, what's the difference between the B6 and C6? There's not a lot of price difference between the two.

C6 is curved +3D (curve is very minimal) I also have a few 3D games

B6 Flat, No 3D

C6 has a curved screen and also does 3D (quite wonderfully too). Those are the two primary differences between them.

Ineptocracy - govt where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.

What about the B6 to the B7? Any major differences there? Sorry for all the questions just trying to figure out which TV I want to pull the trigger on.

I've played a lot of hours of halo 5 and have zero sign of burn in. The only thing I get from time to time is some image retention which goes away really quickly. Gaming on OLED is a dream!

And the B6 has one more HDMI port than the C6.

Looks like the B7 has a significantly brighter screen than the B6. I think I'm going to jump on this deal that I found for the B7. I was going to go with the Vizio P65 as it is much more affordable but I really like my older 55 inch LG OLED and really wanted my first 4k to be another OLED. The P65 is a great TV, but nothing can really compare with these OLED for picture quality.

I'd go to b7, it has dolby atmos capability b6 doesn't ..if you ever need one. Also hdr YouTube and some other minor differences...but new is always new. Probably picture quality is almost identical.

Are you watching in a room with no light in it at all, and allowing time for your eyes to adjust? From what I hear the glow is so faint that that is what is required for many people.

Don't get me wrong, I still think it's not a good thing for the TV to have, as it takes away control from the user and potentially adds variables in the future, like what if this glow shifts brighter over time? It should definitely be removed in a future update, but right now it's probably not going to affect most people's viewing.

Ok after a minute or so in a completely black room and screen i saw a very very faint glow...but i have no way knowing would i see it with the old firmware..never tried. That's not a reason for me to downgrade, it doesn't affect on viewing experience. You have to really look for it to see it.

If it's for the dim HDR issue, I don't think they are gonna fix that. My last 2 emails from them have said that as of now that's intentional.

Though my last PS4 and Xbox one s updates have made the hdr brighter which im assuming is due to the fact that they may have updated their software.

My PS4 even says in the settings that it's using a different format for hdr some yu something. Not home now so I can't remember exactly.

There hasn't been any change on the Xbox side for HDR brightness in the preview builds so I'm not sure why it's brighter for you.

I just checked the Xbox Insider Forum and didn't see any Threads referencing HDR brightness. The Reddit posts I saw were almost a year old. Can you provide links to what you read?

Don’t let LG sweep this problem under the rug

So you acknowledge your TV is now compromised in a way that it wasn’t before this update? And you’re okay with that?

The most striking distinction of OLED vs other TVs is that ability to display a picture with absolute black. If you’re okay with only nearly black, you could’ve saved quite a bit by going with an LCD.

But you’re on an AV forum so I’m assuming picture quality was your top priority when you decided to buy an OLED TV. You should be upset that your TV now has that glow. It was never present before the update and many of us do notice it in our regular usage.

LG needs to adress this problem.

Uncanny hyperbole perhaps? Faulty b6 firmware aside: People with plasmas had much less than nearly or imperceptible blacks yet were not derided for not getting an LCD. Emissive, or what some like to think of as millions of dimming zones vs a relative handfull is the major reason to get an Oled vs an LCD. If his were SDR then the argument could hold water if you were comparing Oled to plasma, but even with the glow you'd find that the pled spanks the plasma in black levels.

Here's the TLDR version:
  • Chromecast Ultra plugged into B6 65" OLED
  • Only got stereo audio over ARC and optical due to Chromecast wanting to send everything as DD+ which B6 can't handle
  • Found a reasonably priced box that splits out the audio and video such that I can receive HDR content on the TV (HDR10 and DV tested) and DD+ to my Denon receiver

No, it doesn't help at all with built in apps unfortunately, but I figured it might help some others with similar issues on external boxes/streamers. BTW, interesting note, the B6 displays the fact that it is receiving a DD+ stream (so it is aware of the format), but couldn't pass anything to optical and only passed DD over ARC
