So my C6 is still on update 4.30.95 (I think?? Cant remember the last number), and I am considering updating to the latest firmware.
I have heard that while the new HDR game mode is darker, it is more accurate and you can make some tweaks on the console/tv if necessary.
I also had my TV professionally calibrated a while back. Will updating the firmware erase or mess up any of the settings that were put in place?
I've been on this firmware a long time, and realistically I don't need to update, but I am tired of seeing the update message.
Should I stick with what works (if it ain't broke dont fix it) or is it worthwhile to download the latest firmware?
Any thoughts to my questions?
Thanks in advance for responses.

I didn't have any problems updating. It's worth it if you watch UHD content on VUDU and listen through ARC or Optical.

I have the C6 and my panel is in my theater room in the basement. I can't compare the 4.30.95 firmware to the later for HDR Gaming only because I didn't have my Xbox X until Nov. What I can say about HDR game mode is to me its perfect. In games like Ghosts Wildlands when flying around in a helicopter the vistas are absolutely breath taking.

One of these would be fine. I think the manufactures warn against it primarily because they know how people could / would misuse extension cords but to add 3 to 6 Ft to a single use power cord is just fine. I've also used one on a sub and have had no issues there either.

Several weeks ago I got fine vertical lines on my B6 with 5600 hours on it and ran the LG picture test.

Well I saw them in the picture test as well and it said to call LG if the picture does not look right which is what I did. They opened a case number and I sent pictures of the vertical lines on the screen as they requested.

I decided to run the manual compensation cycle as per my judgment and about an hour later the B6 turned on and the vertical lines were gone. A couple of days later I had a few gray vertical lines on the left side of the panel and they cleared up overnight.

I called LG because they had not responded to my mailing as they said they would. I received a reply from them shortly afterwards to contact the seller to arrange a panel replacement.

The panel has been perfect now for over a month, so I don't know anything now ... and what to do about their instructions to replace the panel?

I don't think this part has been answered yet--firmware update will not touch existing calibration settings.

I noted in a previous post that the C6 update past 04.30.95 makes the HDR game mode darker, but i've heard that it is apparently more accurate.
Can anyone chime regarding the accuracy of this? If it is in fact a more accurate picture, then I would be inclined to update. I just am afraid of messing with what works currently, as to me it looks really good.

Can anyone help me if LG C6 (or any 2016 LG Oled) got any (including beta) firmware updates over 5.30.10 ??????? When will 2016 series LG Oleds get atmos over hdmi arc as there was a petition for that for months or the dolby vision blacks over hdmi fix?

Good luck, IMO that will not happen.

It is darker, but highlights aren't blown out as much.

I will say that the dynamic contrast "fix" is no good, as it messes up the colors, IMO. I think it's fine where it's at with the latest firmware. The biggest issue with game mode in general is the inability to select anything other than "wide" for colors.

Wide for color and then manually reducing the overall color saturation with the color control I found to be more accuract than 'normal'. However, that said, I still don't actually know how to get into HDR Game mode. I've tried relabeling the input as PC and that didn't work. What am I missing?

HDR game mode is accessed by cycling through the HDR picture modes..

When I cycle I don't see one called game, I get a standard/bright/vivid kind of option. Can't figure out my mistake...

Are you talking about your TV connected to consoles or PC for the HDR game mode

If it's connected to console (Xbox, PS). You just need a HDR compatible game then open the settings menu on the tv, go to display and you will see what mode your in. click on the mode to bring up other options and you should see HDR game mode listed

Also do you have the HDMI input set for HDR through the TV's settings?

All I have is a UHD player hooked up to my TV hdmi directly and I can get HDR/deepcolor output fine with the TV set to deepcolor on the HDMI input. I just can't figure out how to get this game mode as an option. Or maybe I am misunderstanding whether the game mode is available for normal movies as well?

HDR Game mode is only for console system connected to the TV via HDMI, or through a receiver that has HDR pass-through. If you only have a UHD player you will only have access to HDR Light, HDR Dark, and similar options for DV if it is a DV source. If you have a non HDR medium playing you have the option for a mode that emulate HDR, I forget what it is called though.

The game consoles add extra information to the TV that allows it to enable the Game Mode settings to reduce latency.

That must be my problem. Too bad there's no way to force a mode that's clearly there and available.

Hulu just updated with the new UI. I'm guessing 4K support will come with this since it has the same UI the PS4 app has. Had to login again.

I don't have a solution for why you can't see the mode but what raistline said is 100% wrong. It doesn't matter at all what device or content you are running into the TV. As long as it's triggering hdr10, you should see game as an option in addition to vivid, bright, and standard.

I had the 'dim' game mode firmware for a few months and ultimately reverted my firmware because it just looked worse in everything to me. Some people like it, particularly in very dark rooms. To me, it was just dull, which is the opposite of the impression HDR normally gives me.

Do we know if it did indeed bring 4K? That's the main reason I watch through my Xbox... I'd prefer direct but want 4k

First off sir, I am not 100% wrong, there is an option that allows your TV to emulate HDR when watching SDR. I did the name of modes wrong for HDR options. And I swear that last time I checked there was no Game Mode available while playing an HDR source form a Built-in app nor from a 4K disc. The only time the Game mode option was available was when I played a game from my PS4 that had HDR. Perhaps I was wrong on this point but I was not even close to 100% wrong.

I take deep offense to you accusation. *takes glove off and slaps you on the face* I challenge you to a duel sir!

Haha! Ok, I didn't need to say 100%. The part that was most relevant to the person's question was totally wrong, so that's what I was thinking about. And you're right, game mode doesn't appear for internal sources. But, if you fire up anything in HDR from your PS4, the tv will show HDR Game as an option.

If you are using the TV's Blutooth for sound output, the HDR Game mode will not come up as an option. This is intentional by LG as Blutooth apparently adds latencey to HDR Game mode. If you switch sound output to anything else but Blutooth, the HDR Game option should appear.

2016 LG C6-B6 owners thread

So the B6 won’t be getting the new Hulu update with redesigned interface... seems like with LG OLED, the best route to go is purchasing a CX or higher.
