You will get a new Tv, Geek Squad will not be able to fix it. this is some strange issue, if you spend that kind on money on geek squad protection ask them to replace tv.

My TV still wants me to update to 5.30.03.
I wonder if anyone has tried to update from 4.31.20 to the latest 5.30.60 ?
Perhaps if you skip all the versions in between, the latest is OK.

Also state your type of panel as I think the black issue was only on B6 panels ?

Thanks

The black issue is only the B6 yes. People have tried skipping updates in the past with older firmwares, and that did nothing, but there doesn't seem to be enough confirmation one way or another that blacks have been fixed with this firmware at all, so I wouldn't risk it until you know for sure.

Neat. Anyone know what it does? I see 05.30.60 on the site as the most recent and it looks like just a security update . I'm still on the original firmware. No intention of changing based on things I've seen in this thread unless that has changed. Input appreciated. Thanks!

I guess your'e not in the "new firmware ruins everything" camp? Are you having better quality with new firmware? I'm still on the original and can't really get a straight answer on if I should upgrade or not. I'm a b6'er though so maybe it's different for the C6.

My understanding is the elevated blacks were a B6 issue exclusively so I have had no qualms at all regarding updates on my C6. I literally just did the update so I’ve not had time to test for any post update differences (watching the Stanley Cup finals now). Interestingly the firmware on my remote updated as well...

The C6 used the same chip as the E and G models so other than the undesirable changes that were made (then fixed) to game mode this model was never plagued by some of the FW issues the B model has gone through.

That's false info. I have a C6 and the 05 series firmware ruined black levels. Rolling back to 04 series firmware fixed it. People should not make statements black levels are perfect when they're not with the 05 series firmware. Only way to fix black levels with those firmwares is to go into the service menu and lower the sub brightness.

I've literally never seen another C6 owner say that before you. I have a C6, I'm on the newest firmware. I've updated to every 5.x firmware, and my black levels have always been absolutely perfect. I've fully calibrated my set and regularly watch in a pitch black room.

It sounds to me like sub brightness was set incorrectly on your set. On the B6, sub brightness doesn't fix the issue.

Haven't been reading this thread then I figure. Remind me why are people rolling back there firmware on the C6 and E6!?

Also define pitch black because a lot of people use a bias light and call that pitch black. In a completely dark room as in no lighting what so ever there's a glow on my 55C6V with the 05 series firmware (measured 0,001cd/m2) while there are completely black series 04 firmware. I never went into the service menu so nothing I could have set wrong. It's faulty settings in the firmware, plain and simple.

If you're not noticing it then power to you as I wish I couldn't see it but unfortunately I can in my setup. However because you guys don't notice it doesn't mean the problem was fixed and stating your opinion as fact can result in other people upgrading their firmware on false pretenses thinking it's fixed. Perhaps most of them won't notice as well but some might and can't roll back their firmware ruining their experience.

I totally agree. Regardless of FW the blacks are so black on the C6 when I go to turn the panel off I stand around for a few moments just to be sure it actually turned off and it didn't just go to a black screen because I turned off a component or something.

I've only seen people with B6 rolling back their firmware. The problem wasn't fixed because it never existed on the C6. If it existed on your set, then by what you said it sounds like the sub brightness was set wrong, before you got the set.

On the B6 changing sub brightness doesn't fix the black issue, so it's clearly a different situation entirely.

there is no comparison of black to any LCD, this is best for watch all content, my only concern is burn in other wise this is perfect tv, bright enough, good colors and excellent black. best tv for 65 inch, i got 75 inch SONY its DV brightness is not good as compared to OLED that how dim it is. currently 77 OLED prices are too high plus burn in concern on OLED, for 75 inch plus size tv i picked SONY LED over OLED.

I have set my B6 front panel red pilot light to turn on when the TV is turned off so that I know the TV is off. The front panel red pilot light turns off when the TV is turned on ..... the less lights on (all my equipment) when watching program material the less distracted I am.

Is my panel just going bad? The glow is getting increasingly noticable (the picture doesn't do it justice in a dark room). It used to be invisible. It is the same even with the Screen Off setting enabled.

Sub-brightness 127 (lower values do not make a difference).

So when people complain about this black level issues, is it that the pic is not pitch black like as if the TV is off?

Cause now I gotta see if there is something wrong with my set. I don't have super picky eyes but I want to get the best pic I can. Right now, last i checked, if I turn off or the screen is black, I can't tell the difference. Sometimes I forget the TV has a black screen on and think its off. Does this mean my black levels are good?

Are these black level issue across all modes or just HDR/DV?

It's possible he had a bad tv or panel but if you have been following this from the beginning it was a B6 issue..

I actually like the soap opera effect and have bene trying to find a way to get it on. haven't played around with motion settings much but I remember simply dialing up the settings didn't give me that effect
