I seem to recall that the Panasonic OLED introduced a new issue that wasn't present in the LG OLEDs. I can't recall what that was.

At any rate, David Mackenzie indicated that although still not perfect, the 2016 LG OLEDs successfully addressed many of his near black concerns from the prior year. In fact the 2016 LG OLEDs were now good enough that he was ready to buy one himself.

While the panel is important sometimes processing can have an impact as well. It wouldn't surprise me if Panasonic was able to improve on an LG 2016 panel. Not hating on LG but prior to OLED they were never really in the top tier of HDTV displays. Kudos to what they've done so far but I think they are growing up quite a lot in a very fast time period and growing pains are bound to happen to a certain extent. Of course Panasonic's version is likely to be far more expensive than LG's and therefore the trade-off between increasing price and diminishing returns will take effect.
Pioneer didn't take a Sharp panel and make the (LCD) Elite TV's. Those were Sharp designed and manufactured. Pioneer merely provided a branding agreement so Sharp could sell the TV as an Elite line product.

I don't think anyone here is an LG hater. I want LG to succeed and compete. I just really get bothered and am sensitive to loss of detail in shadows so I'm curious to see what LG and Panasonic do about it for 2017. It's refreshing to hear Panny calling the issue out directly and attacking it head on.

Having the opportunity to spend some time with the Panny OLED in the UK awhile back, I was very impressed with it versus the 2015 LG. Haven't compared it to a 2016 LG. The issue besides availability is of course cost. I would be willing to pay a small premium for the Panny over the LG if it ever makes its way to the States. The current premium, not so much.

Louder is NOT better!

JWhip,

Good to hear. Can you tell me specifically what impressed you in that version? Was it better shadow detail?

I thought so and preferred the color. The picture just looked more refined for lack of a better description. The price though is staggeringly high. For that price, I would grab the LG.

Until both a calibrated Panasonic OLED is tested alongside of a calibrated 2016 LG OLED and both are playing precisely the same content, we won't be able to distinguish hype from reality.

It's very risky to believes marketing hype or a staged manufacturer's 'A/B', especially when they use 2015 LG OLEDs as some have.

For all those who liked the CZ950 and for those who expect an even better one I did this video at IFA 2016. I had a very interesting talking with a man from Panasonic. The new one will be brighter of course.
I was really amazed as he told me that he is already in april or may 2017 expecting it on the market, because I did not find this information anywhere else. So enjoy and don't forget to do it in full size and speakers on. (Sorry for the noise during the talking. It was incredible loud in the Panasonic hall. There is another Panasonic video on my channel. There you can see why.)

Unless Panasonic plans on re-entering the U.S. market, it's moot for those of us living in the states.

Was anything said at IFA2016 (not you ken) that would lead us to believe they'll be selling this display in the U.S. market?

I did not ask that because I did not know it at that time.

Probably you don't get Loewe or Metz too?

Loewe left the US in like 2002 or something like that. Met and Loewe are basically nonexistent outside of Europe, and Panasonic left here a few years ago and I doubt they are coming back

I think that is really a pity, because that are premium products, which are in some things even better than LG, though the panels are from LG of course. Metz is now a daughter of the chinese company Skyworth. Loewe is working together with Hisense.

Normally we in europe admire your american market, but here it is different. There are 4 premium products and you can get only one. If Donald is doing it there will be no chance that something will change. But no politics here. Instead I can show you what you are missing. On my channel is a video about the new Metz OLED too.

Panasonic stated at IFA that they were exploring ways of getting the new OLED TV to the US. We might see a Panasonic OLED TV product/prototype at CES 2017..
