You're right, it won't... because it can't! OLED has pixel-level luminance control. FALD will never achieve this. But MicroLED does and will do so. In fact, technically it's black level performance outperforms that of OLED, although probably not perceivably so, given OLED is practically perfect already in this department

At the moment yes; within 3-5 years' time not so much. That's when we are predicting the first consumer TVs sporting MicroLED technology will be making an appearance

The reason LG have licensed their OLED panels to SONY is to achieve greater economy of scale to reduce the manufacturing cost of the OLED panels, which in turn will cause the prices to drop, especially when consumer TVs utilizing superior technology formats such as MicroLED are launched into the marketplace. OLEDs currently command a pricing premium as compared with LED/LCD TVs, but we forecast a reversal with respect to MicroLED, which we envisage will be premium priced as OLED is currently.

Indeed. And it's worth mentioning that, by the time MicroLED first makes an appearance with respect to consumer TVs, OLED will have undergone a further 3-5 future generations of improvements and pricing reductions. By the time MicroLED TVs are released OLED should quite happily be able to hold its own, and hopefully by then it will be comparatively quite a bit less expensive, which all helps.

MicroLED outperforms that technology in every respect... CLEDIS, which uses MicroLED technology, is already here and its contrast ratio is in excess of 1,000,000:1. It beats (technically / on paper, but probably not perceivably) even OLED. It is also emissive with perfect uniformity and has an almost 180-degree viewing angle both horizontally and vertically; unlike that IPS technology. If that is developed by Panasonic for the consumer market, by the time it is released it will never compete with OLED let alone MicroLED, and will likely be DOA.

Yea but to be fair, the tv was designed 100% for living room viewing with lights on. Every picture I've seen so far has been some sort of a torture with blacks, which we know under dimmer conditions won't look very good.

For example, alot of people want a good TV for watching sports. Nobody watches sports with the lights off at midnight. It's usually daytime or dusk with lights on. How do these TVs compare with a full screen sports event with lights on?

Yeah, but I can watch an OLED in day mode for football and still have it jet black for movies. Samsung screwed it up and is working off name recognition now, no ignoring that.

U can use any TV u want for sports. But like movie fans want the best movie TV, maybe a sports fan wants the best sports TV?

I kinda think the Q9 is a placeholder until 2018. No doubt it's backlight design is not good outside of daytime watching.

LG may have bought oled patents from Kodak when nobody else was buying it but that does not mean lg has a patent on oled panels. what the oled market really needs right now (in respect to tv's) is more manufacturers coming out with their oled panels instead of buying them from lgd. lg's woled needs competition, maybe rgb oled. having competition on that front would help with pricing going down and tech improvements instead of lg continuing to have monopoly on oled panels for the next few years and other manufacturers just using their panels.

Can't judge from pictures either. U don't know if slight bloom is a camera issue, or a blowout is a camera clip.

Wow. Figured the Z9D would muster up a win in one category. Had a hard time choosing between Z9D and C7's image quality during ISF training back in April. Both spectacular for their intended purposes and as all-arounders.

I'm not going to be the one to say it.. but the LG rep was present to accept all 3 awards...
