A1 was the "honorable mention"...

Suffice to say it was a treat to reset the adv color settings on the A1 after the event and see close to What's D-Nice did yesterday...

I'm not going to be the one to say it.. but the LG rep was present to accept all 3 awards...

Anyone have details about why the E7 won over the Sony? Was it a matter that you could access the CMS on the LG and not the Sony?

I went with B because it's the "lowest" model, although the whole line is identical outside of styling and sound. Point is that you can get a best-of-breed 65" 7-series for around $2k if you're willing to risk shipping and not play panel lotto with a local retailer. That's incredible vs. what a large, top shelf screen used to cost. High end PQ is reaching a whole new audience.

AI did you agree with the results? Did you see any banding on Lg or Sony on any of the material used.
Did the Sony have any advantage with motion during testing. Thanks

What the @%&%@&. I know you were trying to be fast, and viewing angle and contrast are huge boons for OLED vs LCD, but you're suggesting that the LG had a material advantage over the A1E in both areas. I find that hard to believe. I guess higher peak brightness could equal higher perceived contrast, which would help the LG. But the 2017 LG's are more aggressively tone mapped than the A1E and appear "dimmer" in practice than the A1 (but with more detail) on HDR content. Neither should run into serious ABL issues with "home theater" SDR content, so I don't see how there'd be a big contrast advantage there.

Not sticking up for the A1 here, but the reporting doesn't add up.

I can't believe the Samsung looks as bad as it does in comparison, carrying the price tag that it does. That thing looks like it could be matched or outperformed in black level by any reasonably priced LCD on the market.

I find it a little odd that the LG, which is known to sacrifice brightness on its hdr tone mapping was the winner for "bright room HDR". I would have maybe given the edge to the Z9D on that 1. Maybe the Q9 because of this brightness and superb anti glare

No and the E7 had some serious yellow banding that you could see with content with bright white scenes.

"Streaming performance relies on image processing technologies like noise reduction that are typically not used on pristine source material. Here, the the LG E7 OLED won again, beating out the Sony A1E." Well to me this is a shocker. Always thought Sony was a clear champion in image and motion processing.

So the lg oled won, seems like the judges didn't buy into the sony snake oil someone was peddling here.

But even so, this oled competition was only between lg and sony, which is an incomplete equation with some of the variables missing, so to say. I'm talking about the exclusion of some of the other oleds (not available in the us). Having personally seen the lg, sony and panasanic oled side by side, I felt the Panasonic ez 1000 looked a little better than the other two (the lg and sony looked approximately equal on hd content, with sd content and upscaling sony's x1 processor does better in compressing the artifacts). Panasonic's motion processing was the best, panasonic is boss in that regard. This is the reason i'm more interested to see the european shooutout with the panasonics added to the mix. In the european shootout, you could have lg, sony, panasonic, philips and loewe competing for the best oled.

It was a great shootout because we got to meet a lot of AVS folks and got some real in depth looks at the sets.

If I were to vote I would have given
LG the home theater award
Z9 the bright room HDR award
And the A1E the streaming award.
If you were sitting on center with the z9 it was very bright. It measured about 2000 nits and had the best HDR picture.
The A1 clearly blew away the others in streaming and I think Al and Ken would both agree. Dark room, the LG had a brighter and more contrast picture but with the loss of accuracy when compared to the x300 reference monitor. The Z9 when measured was the closest to the reference monitor but suffered because it's a LCD. Even so, if was clearly the best LCD by far. After that, i feel the vizio then the Samsung and the Westinghouse in that order. The vizio was actually very good.

lg's motion processing has always been mediocre imo , same with the oleds, it gets the job done but it's not the best in the industry.

Sony A1 Been overhyped on the forum its not accurate at all.

Guess Sonys Magical Dust did not help at all :

Congrats to Lg for once again winning this event.
