A 65" TV is just tiny, which is why the OLED is only "good enough" for the bedroom. I giggle a little bit when people have these really amazing sound setups... with a 65" TV. Makes no sense to me.

And, of course, some people would laugh at my tiny projector screen. It's all relative. Does the OLED blow the projector away in terms of contrast etc? Absolutely. But really, projector > OLED any day of the week.

William, you and Al have just pushed me over the edge to upgrade to a 4k projector. My impression of even the 75" flat panels is that although they look incredible with that deep deep black, they still didn't have that 'immersive' pull you into the picture effect that my projector screen does.

My projector screen is 120x51 scope, a 115" is in no way tiny, and it will dwarf all but the uber expensive and rare 100" flat panels.

If we had a smaller room that a projector wouldn't make sense, the Sony AIE would certainly be at the top my list.

I agree.. the A1E Acoustic Surface is perfect for me, removed my feel to have a separate sound bar.. There's no way I would feel comfortable with a Dolby Atmos system on the 65", where the sound would be bigger than the TV.

As William and Al have already pointed out. I'd like to second that nothing compares to a 100+ inch screen in a light controlled room with great sound, especially for movies, sports and a lot more!

Does 4K work on it? I've installed the apk manually on my TV but this "new" interface is just a wrapper for https://www.youtube.com/tv and there is no way to change quality.

Good luck, Vidpro...hope it's not from the frying pan into the fire for you.
Nope it sure is not nothing to sneeze at. Not many choices out there really anymore in the high end sector. OLED or Z9D......

Let's hope Sony brings their CLEDIS display to the residential market, with it being made up of 18"x16" borderless panels we can customize the size to whatever room we have for the biggest panel display our pocketbooks will allow. I would think a borderless OLED would be very possible and the smaller panels wouldn't be nearly as expensive to produce than the 50 inch and above ones. May we all live long enough with our vision intact to see that someday in our homes.

CLEDIS when it does its thing will want a premium to payoff all the research costs like the OLED is going through at present. So I'm thinking the OLEDs might get much cheaper and more like a curtain and am hoping the two go into a competition. Lets hope everything looks like or better than the LG-W7. Now our vision is a completely different topic!

Al - what screen do you use with your 675es, and is it a dedicated blacked out room? Just wondering what's required overall to get a 940e look out of a projector?

Thanks,

I have to disagree. Great sound should suck you in and not remind you of the size of the screen. I don't get it.

Good point. But after you move from 65 to 100+ screen it changes things what your senses like . It's like more than one subwoofer or more than 200 W per channel amp or dolby atmos or DTS:X and on and on.....

I'd love a true theater in my house with a giant screen. I just don't think a large screen is requirement in thinking about having the best sound possible.

I agree since I voted for sound in the sound vs. picture in a recent poll. But again all the other things I listed also improve the whole experience.

This is the product my contractors used

I was going to do a SI Black Diamond and had my guys install the above screen as a placeholder when I was first using the 365ES.. I've just been satisfied with it so far and with the 675es, I'm really happy with it.

Im using the entire 228" size.

I didn't blackout the room due to also using it for an audio listening room.

Of course it's not a requirement, my opinion is a Sony HT-ST5000 Atmos sound bar is a better suited solution for the 65" A1..

A full speaker Atmos system, I've experienced, the sound being way bigger than the lone TV siting in the middle of towers..

Like Robot on Lost in Space, this does not compute.

Totally agree.

I love the full sound of a surround system. Don't matter if it was a 25" CRT.

Immersive surround system viewing along with a 100"+ screen beats going back to or even thinking about 25" anything! Not going back!

Got into the mood to watch the Iceman documentary and do a docu binge and some other HBO content.. I was on another TV and didn't want to search for the Apple TV, Roku, or Fire TV and deal with another remote.. HBO Go/Now for Android TV on the A1E to the rescue.. There's a healthy amount of network streamers in the Play store, didn't realize it until now.

Four threads about the A1E but none to discuss price, that's so awkward.
Anyway you get a free PS4 Pro if you get it at BestBuy: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/promo/sony-co18220

I heard back when it was released that this TV would be getting a Dolby Vision firmware update in the future, is it out yet? Has it even been officially announced or was it just a booth thing that vaporized?

For what it's worth, the C7 LGs had a white flashing issue (like a single white frame) with the initial firmware it shipped with, as well as a screen tearing issue, on video usual during panning shots. It was not limited to Netflix. Both issues seemed to have been fixed.

Not available yet. Yes it was announced, but for later this year. You can find references to that in other threads. As my grandmother used to say, "Patience is a virtue". Just wait. It will come.

All reports indicate it is coming in a future update. It has been publicly announced by Sony so its more than a rumor. Its just that Sony is still working on it.

Sony A1E Sound Dispersion Pattern?

Does the sound travel outwards in a specific pattern or degree angle? I own some electrostat speakers that do sound in a simlar way with vibration of a thin film, so I'm just a little concerned on what kind of dispersion pattern this thing gives off, especially for off angles. Can someone who owns this tv comment?

I'm really looking forward to hearing the sound this thing makes.
