LGD typically stars gearing up new model year production in February. One wonders what, if any, noticeable difference that will entail for the A1E in 2018. Perhaps any specs change afforded by the pixel redesign will be applied surreptitiously.

I would assume the new panels have something different about them that would require a totally different setup. The 2018 would all have new 2018 panels.... 2017 would be sold with the older panel until inventory of parts are gone.....

I really hate being "that guy" but I simply don't even come close to knowing anywhere close to what many here know about this technology

The vast amount of knowledge here makes it intimidating to even make a posting here but I am at the point of analysis paralysis

The pricing shocks recently have thrown a wrench into my buying decisions and maybe someone here could help me with basic knowledge

If I am spending 3500 on a TV which one do I get? The A1E or the C8?

No cable.....stream only
HD Ant for locals and football
A 2009 400 disc Bluray player I want to keep but needs upscaling
Sony HT7 soundbar
Ps4
Switch

Will be replacing a 65 inch sony 850b

I can only afford to replace the TV every 3-4 years

Can any kind soul help me with jargon I can understand?

Though it's a bit early to fully assess C8's capabilities, it's looking to be a toss-up at this early stage...they'll be close in motion and perhaps equal in HD upscaling (with Sony getting the edge on 720p/1080i), but the C8 probably has a brightness edge (for HDR specular highlights).

-What kind of stream? If you are talking 1080p and 4k Netflix, Amazon, etc both televisions should do a similar job processing.

-If you are talking 720p live tv streams/compressed content from Sling, PS Vue, Directv Now, etc the Sony A1E should be able to provide a slightly better picture.

-For gaming on your Nintendo switch which runs many games in 720p, 900p, or 1080p the Sony A1E will do a better job of providing a cleaner image. However the LG Oled has lower input lag than the Sony.

Set up 1|Sony XBR65A1E|Pioneer SC-97|Panasonic DMP-UB900|PS4 Pro|Xbox One X|Apple TV|5.2.4 Dolby Atmos|Nintendo Switch|
Set up 2|LG OLED65C8|Pioneer SC-LX502

Went over a friend’s house last night. Probably haven’t been there in months and little did I know all my OLED talk the last time I was there convinced him to buy 65” A1E. He had it set up on a nice low profile cabinet and I have to say the A1E looks pretty amazing just sitting there, tilt and all. I’ve haven’t seen the Sony using the the stand until now. Speaking of the tilt, I found it to be a non-issue watching it that way. I understand the worry, but not once did I think I’m watching a TV tilted back.

Anyone else feel the need to grab the remote of someone else’s TV and set it up the “correct” way? I did it again last night to groans of “where is all the color any way is it so dark?” LOL!

The television screen is the retina of the mind's eye.

I love the clean look of my A1E, tilt and all. No one has ever noticed or cared that it is slightly tilted back. All they say is “Wow!”.

Haha same. The *only* thing for me is having no stand it sits lower than the Kuro it replaced and my center channel speaker blocks a bit of the bottom of the screen and the IR sensor. But the height is perfect so I leave it.

4k issue on netflix with the new fimware update

The new firmware update added dolby vision support for Netflix and Amazon prime. But if i watch a netflix dolby atmos serie or movie it i see richt above in the corner the dolby vision logo en it working. Butt the problem is it won't go to 4k. If i press the info button on the remote is shows that i am on 1080p and a have a 4k netflix subscription. Do other people have the same problem?

A1 doesn't support Dolby Atmos as of yet so I assume you are talking about Dolby Vision.
Dolby Vision materials aren't necessarily recorded in 4k, some of them are in 1080p.
If you want both 4k and Dolby Vision then Altered Carbon is an example to check.

After the Dolby Vision update from yesterday, I am now seeing horrible water stained like portions over the blacks in my scenes. It looks awful. Anyone else with this issue or have a fix? The content I tried playing was Altered Carbon on Netflix.

I went and tried Altered Carbon just to see and don't get what your getting,so no issues. Maybe you can check in notifications to see if dolby vision is on.I believe it should be by default after update.Hope someone can help you out.

It is enabled. You can't miss the symbol. I still have more testing to do. Hopefully it was just a lapse in my network connection that night.

... Hi jae44. While checking this Thread for A1E Owners having a similar problem as myself and other Z9D Owners are having in regards to Software Update :PKG6.2818.0075NAA I find that no one has responded to your question. About four days ago I installed that .0085NAA Update on my Z9D and since then a real P.I.A. problem has occurred with the TV Video "Blinking" while watching Non HDR content while the HDR Setting is set to Auto in the Picture Adjustments. This blinking issue is intermittent and at times occurs very frequently within a short period of time. One remedy has been found to eliminate this blinking issue and that is to change the HDR Setting to OFF when not watching HDR Content. While this is not a major issue like a O.S. Issue it is a big enough problem where it is a huge distraction and effects negatively the overall viewing experience. So at this time I would not recommend installing this update until this blinking issue and other issues are corrected. This leads me to ask A1E Owners if any of you have this same "blinking" issue after the .0075NAA Update. T.I.A.

Yes I have the stupid dimming problem and the blinking problem after the latest firmware update that I installed a few days ago. Called sony and they told me to do a factory reset which I have not tried yet because I need to write down all of my settings.

... The Tv/Factory Reset is the same answer that was given to another Z9D Owner when he made a report. I have also reported this to Sony Customer Service and expect the same response. I have also sent a message to the Sony Community regarding this Blinking Issue. The message I sent to Sony Customer Service only took a few minutes so I encourage any/all Sony DV Compatible Display Owners to report this issue to Sony if it effects their TV's.

... Oh yes, I almost forgot ... if the blinking issue bothers anyone a remedy has been found to work and that is turn the HDR Setting from Auto to OFF when watching Non HDR Content. That eliminates the blinking when watching Non HDR Content with HDR set to Auto.
... Also if anyone had the blinking issue after the latest update and you did a Factory Reset AND that solved the problem please relay that info. T.I.A.

If you do follow through, let us know please. I don't see that solving an issue like this.

Factory reset did nothing. It only happens with DirecTV on....Netflix streaming or DVD through OPPO UDP 205 there are no problems that I couldn’t find....no dimming issue and no flashing. I think somehow the update brought about some sort of incompatibility with the Directv Genie???

I've got some videos of the flashing problem and offered to sent them to Sony but they had no interest.
