It does seem high, but that's actually pretty normal for the technicolor Expert SDR picture mode. Since contrast is 85 (default), you have room there to lower it. Make sure you have Dynamic Contrast turned off. It's been awhile, but I seem to recall that my contrast pluge pattern topped out at around 244. Either way these OLED's will easily exceed 235.

So leave 5, 15, etc. all on 0, no?

I'm on a mission right now comparing iTunes and Vudu DV movies with HDR discs and Oppo 203/205 upmixing to DV. Hoping you have some new HDR settings because right now its not even close with upconverted DV beating HDR. Just was looking at Labyrinth and iTunes copy very, very nice. HDR disc full of noise/film grain. DV upconversion of HDR disc much better than the disc and doesn't exterminate all the noise/film grain, but must be said someone went to a lot of effort for the iTunes DV version. Soundwise the dolby truehd atmos on disc trounces the iTunes for that movie. Personally I've been picking up the DV iTunes versions over the HDR discs for some time now because of Dolby Vision superiority, but just recently discovered the Oppo's summer firmware update that allows it to do some rather impressive upconversion to Dolby Vision on its own. In the heart of it all are your DV settings and file.

Is more dark because it's better that way.
HDR Standard is in fact overly bright with a lot of bright details' clipping, and PC Mode + HDR Standard will NOT have 21ms low input lag but something around 40-45ms.

Calibrated "non-PC" HDR Game mode (using suggested settings, including High DC) is the best you can get with your C7 and gaming.

The 1. is latest and greatest for X1X HDR (v5.3.2).

2. was an old profile, before figuring out the increased input lag in PC HDR Standard mode compared to non-PC HDR Game (40-50ms Vs 21ms), and before obtaining a better PQ with HDR Game tweaking High DC.

Avoid PC Mode now, and use latest non-PC suggested profiles.

Question

Are subtitles from MKV's broken for anyone else on the LG internal player as-of the latest (and last apparently) Firmware?

I have an MKV, on my PC using VLC it clearly has subtitles. When I play it form USB on my LG, the subtitle option is greyed out. Can someone else confirm this?

No, MKVToolNix. USB worked the same as UPNP/DLNA via the internal app - subtitles work as expected.

Anyone seeing major pixelization and cloudy blacks on the Amazon Prime App?

I was watching Hereditary in UHD and the quality during the dark scenes was unwatchable. I don't know the correct terminology but I would call it a combination of pixelization and severely degraded blacks and near blacks that make the dark scenes look like they are being downloaded on a 56K old school modem.

Is it the built in Amazon App or just a problem with Amazon Prime Video in general?

In terms of resolution definitely. I can't really say that I see any more detail in my 65B7 than I did in my old 55 1080 TV and I do sit at just 6 feet four inches from the 4K. Unlees we go to much bigger screens I can't see any visual benefit in going to 8K but I fear that is where we are heading.

Not yet!! The average human eye can "see" 7 billion colors. The best consumer displays on the market can come somewhat close to hitting BT.2020 - or 1.2 billion colors - so we've still got quite a ways to go. For sure, it's still a vast improvement over REC.709/SDR with 17 million colors!

You can’t see detail that isn’t there. You need 4K content to show off your 4K screen.

A 4K movie will obviously look much better on a 4K TV than a 1080p movie on a 1080p display. If it doesn’t then there’s something wrong with your eyes.

Excuse me for taking a step back as my old memory doesn't always remember. I went to check my Sonoftumble settings and I couldn't figure out how to find the HDR10 or DolbyVision settings. How do I get there?

You must have HDR10 or DV content actually being displayed, then the TV switches to a different set of picture options.

Recently my TV stopped dimming a still image - whether it comes from Xbox or Apple TV. That spooks me a little because HUDs in some games can be pretty bright.
Also Apple TV started constantly waking the TV (could be due to beta tvOS and unrelated).

I don't think there's even a setting for that, is there? Any idea what to check? Maybe it broke after 05.80.15 update, I only noticed it this weekend.
