I thought most HDR on Netflix is Dolby Vision, and that bypasses the LG's problematic tone mapping entirely?

If it was mastered in Dolby Vision then Netflix will present it that way. If it was only mastered in HDR10 then Netflix will not present a made up Dolby Vision

I own a Apple TV use native as my setting and all HDR content looks sharp and bright with all detail present

I never use the build in Apps on the TV set as they just don’t look as sharp to me no matter what the format is

Sure, yes, if Netflix content is HDR10 then we are still suffering. But seems like most netflix HDR content is DV.

(Regarding built in apps versus the ATV, I sometimes use Amazon on the TV instead of the ATV since the stream appears to buffer less -- probably a much less heavily used set of content servers.)

Plus if you like to use something like a Roku or Shield TV, Netflix stuff is in HDR10.

Really, though, that's over-the-top bad and exhibits all the stereotypical BI case scenarios all at once. Given your glaringly obvious viewing habits, you'd be smart to consider an LED LCD of any make/model for your next display.
Couldn't agree more. The viewing habits are obvious... burnt right into the screen. I'd also recommend the LED LCD for the next display.

As for the Samsung QLED... they market it well. Even went as far as to swipe the 4 letters for name recognition... or should I say confusion. The misinformed go into BB thinking QLED is the same as OLED. Happens all the time.

No reason at all to shy away from OLEDs... 2300 hours on my 65 B7 and I don't have burn in. Of course, I mainly watch movies. If you watch logoed cable programming like seen here... then yeah, OLED might not be for you. It's an emissive display. If I was a CNN junkie I'd buy an LED LCD for $349... but that's just me.

Do you think there is a chance that my OLED was damaged along the line someplace to cause this excessive burn-in? We were always careful not to pause screens, don't use the mute very long, etc. This just seems like to me something else caused all this burn-in.

You're not cutting off the power after you're done watching, are you? That would result in the compensation cycle never running.

Dunno. The culprit is plain as day in the images you posted. The rectangle across the bottom and whatever that logo is on the right be it from a new station... mute button... whatever.

I don't know much about burn in... people claim that you can get it just from regular viewing over a long period... i.e 1000 hours straight of CNN is the same as 1 hour per day for 1000 days straight when it comes to pixel wear. What I do know is I don't have it after 2300+ hours... and I mainly watch full/widescreen movies with some occasional (few hours per week at most) cable programming... very little of which has logos/tickers on screen.

It definitely sucks... but it also doesn't appear out of thin air. At least BB is replacing it for you.

BI and Buzzing.

Hey guys so I need a bit of advice. I've been noticing my B7 has been getting some Burn it towards the bottom center of the screen it looks like two stripes. And Ive been contemplating calling LG since I still have a month until my 1year manufacturer's warranty expires. I thought that was my only issue until I was watching Fantastic Beasts and I noticed on a certain scene that I had these Horizontal lines on my screen as well just like a poster posted a day ago. Thats not it, Ive also been noticing my Oled has been buzzing a little too loud as of late and then today when I went in my room I noticed this Heavy buzzing with some other little noises coming from my Set never heard those noises before. My set was off at the time. It's really annoying and it gets your ears attention right away. it wasn't the normal somewhat more silent buzz it had before. And now im worrying something is going on with my set. Im going to attach some photos of the BI and a video of the buzz. You can barely hear the noises on the video for some reason but in person its very noticeable even from afar. Is LG more lenient towards these problems to fix or replace your screen or set? I would very much get some tips before I make my call to them.

Edit: I cant seem to upload the video of the buzzing since it says I cant upload mp4 format.

Yes there is an automatic cycle that runs every 4 hours of use that combats ir and burn in , my guess is your wasn’t running the cycles .

I don't really know. We turn the TV off anywhere from 20:00 to 22:00 at nite and fire her back up around 04:00 in the morning. Is there a setting someplace that I can check to make sure it is turned on? I ran a manual Pixel Refresher about four times to try to clear the burn-in up but didn't help any.

So that's like 16-18 hours per day. No wonder it looks like one from Rtings burn-in test.

Oled-Light set to a high value I assume?

Actually that fits pretty good with rtings "Live CNN (max)" burn-in test results.

Yours should have about 6570 hours by now with a average of 17h per day.

Here a comparison of yours and the one from rtings with about the same hour count:

The burn-in on yours is a bit less severe. You probably only watched news 90% of the time.

wow, you may be the first guy where I really saw bad burn in on an OLED, how long have you been watching regular TV after you noticed that? Want to make sure it is not image retention and actually burn in.....

That’s the reality of emissive technology if you want to watch like that you should definitely switch to lcd, good luck. I am
