EDIT: To all newcomers and old ones WYSIWYG, LG does not care anymore about 2017 models (Firmware Related), I have a B7 and im fine with it, but im just to tired of "running after the carrot" of firmware updates actually fixing something or adding features.
"Advanced HDR by Technicolor" has been built into the 2017 OLED's since a late 2017 FW update, so it's not a feature that requires a new FW update from LG. Obviously, the 8 and 9 series sets also have that feature. The only thing missing is the signal that will trigger the Advanced HDR badge.

If I was "King of Format Adoption", it would have happened already en mass, but alas I'm not, and it hasn't. There were several experimental broadcasts that took place in 2018, and 2019 promises mass deployment.

http://www.alitech.com/index.php/en/...20stb-chipsets

The main goal and benefit is the proliferation of HDR throughout the broadcast space while at the same time forcing HDR to conform to traditional gamma curves and eliminating tone mapping.

https://www.technicolor.com/news/win...roduction-2018

In other words, we are waiting for the broadcast industry to get a move on.

I see, I was under the impression that it would be an additional picture mode.

I just dont undestand the stupid decision of studios of grading movies at 4000-10000 nits when thats not possible in any form of display that I know of, they should stay at reasonable levels 1000-2000, same with games.

And they missed out an opportunity to quintle dip with "remastered for ultra hdr" edition when 4000 nits displays become a reality.

Unplug it from power. Wait a couple minutes and then plug it back in. This works for me. I've made a habit of doing this once a month or so. I know my apps are up to date but in my case typically when Amazon starts getting slow to load or seems to just hang I just pull power. Works every time.

You grade for the future not for “current limitations”. This saves them money in the long run. Also, there are displays that do those levels on the professional side. The good thing with DV is that it’s dynamic and will “adjust down” for the display.

I am not sure. I just saw it here on AVS years ago. Sunlight makes a dark spot where it hits the screen. It eventually clears up.

As it was mentioned a couple of posts above it got me to thinking about updating APPS on WebOS. Without unplugging the set, how do I update the installed apps.
I did do a Google search. Lots of info about updating firmware, but nothing really on getting updates for installed apps.
Thanks for any input.

Go into the LG Content Store...go to My Apps (or My Profile) and it will list what app updates are available for the apps installed on your device

Direct sunlight isn’t good for most things and the sun doesn’t care if your electronic device is on or off.

Ever see what direct sunlight does to wood or just about any material causing it to fade or change color? Imagine what it can do to a fragile electronic display.

(snip)
Is an LCD/LED as susceptible? At a guess, no.

I kept a 1983 Sony Trinitron TV for about 14 years. I imagine that its phosphors were inorganic, though.

Was plasma just as sensitive with this issue? It seems to be more than just a “wear and rear” effect. Perhaps the technology itself creates more susceptibility?

That is rather vague. Perhaps you should be more specific about what you are asking, what your issue is and/or explicitly what issue and box you are referring too.

LG cared enough to issue a firmware "update" that broke 50Hz colorspace... Now let's see if they care enough to release an update to fix it.

No news that I know of. Our household has been clicking "no" to the update every time we turn the TV on, but all it would take is one accidental press to break the TV...

Hi everyone !

I'm new here and a very recent owner of a 65B7P. I'm very happy with my new TV. Can someone provide me with the best user setting unanimously found in this thread( I don't have the time to read trough all the pages of this thread ) mainly for cable viewing and movie viewing ? Also would love to have a setting to get the most natural skin tone when viewing cable content.

Thanks.

Problem is that when I try to adjust the "Method" of 2 points and 20 points, on my set it is not that customizable. Any idea ?

The settings for HDR and Dolby Vision only become applicable when playing content that is HDR or DV.

For DV there is plenty of content on Netflix that you could you could use to trigger the DV popup. For HDR you're best bet is Youtube content that has HDR. The top right of the screen will flash a quick message to confirm the content is in HDR or DV.

Wifi and bluetooth instantly started working again just fine! No more magic remote problems, no more "Unknown device is disconnected" message popping up. It's still early days, but I'm hopeful this "fix" will last a while.

Going by the number of posts in this thread on the LG Community site (not to mention the 70,000+ views), this wireless issue is perhaps THE most common problem facing LG TVs. It affects a range of models, and I believe that many (most? all?) of them are using the same wireless card.

What I find VERY disturbing is that LG has now hidden/removed this thread from their forum listings, along with several other related threads describing the same problem. It feels like LG is now trying to hide this issue from the public.
It sounds like the same problem I have which started about 3 months ago. The magic remote works sometimes while other times it doesn't do anything. Equally annoying is the "unknown device is disconnected" message which randomly appears in the top right corner of the screen. I've seen this message pop up over 20 times in half an hour! I've also tried all the suggestions in the following thread which hasn't fixed the issue:

https://www.cnet.com/forums/discussi...lg-tvs-solved/

Given the numerous posts in these threads it's obvious that something is inherently wrong with the either the hardware/software in these TV's which is causing numerous people to run into these issues. I have a 5 year extended warranty through Costco/Excellence Plus so this falls in the complete PIA territory for me. For others whose warranty has expired this is a huge issue.
