Thanks for your prompt response on this. I sort of thought that might be the case, but wanted to be sure. It still looks pretty decent though. Thanks again

As far as I know, no one in the US has received an online update.

The file isn't on the US web site, but the 5.80.15 file has been removed. That may signify something, but I don't know what.
bobknavs,
On-line, I didn't try the Korean software. Is it worth it to upgrade or should I just wait for a US upgrade?

Hi Bob,
I ONLY tried to update thru the TV. No US upgrade yet? I asked this a minute ago but I'll ask YOU: Is it worth updating with the Korean software or should I just wait for the US update...….which might me a "forever" wait!

Regarding recent talk of firmware, the UK site has taken down 05.80.25 (all mention of the 05.xx.xx series) just leaving 04.70.95 from June 2018 for 55B7V.
I thinks that's odd.

Hulu finally activated 4K support again a few days ago...but it's only on the Apple TV 4K and Chromecast Ultra for now...so the built-in LG Hulu app is not supported yet...hopefully it gets added soon...

I haven't seen a changelog for 05.80.35, so I can't say.

I have the impression that it includes no feature updates, so there may be little point in rushing it. It may be a minor security update. I did it because I'm a nerd.

LG has removed 05.80.15 from the US web site, which suggests that 05.80.35 (or some other version) will be showing up someday.

Stranger Things 3 in DV is outstanding. Netflix is going all out to appeal to enthusiasts. The best DV content I’ve seen on my 65B7. Brighter than anything I’ve seen and the pitch black scenes with Eleven are stunning.
The use of lighting showcases the set and the near blacks are perfect and band free.

Simply amazing

are you talking about before or after the update?? also, do you use the built in LG netflix app or are you using an external source?

i still see some "noise" like seen on the marvel shows when watching dolby vision, not sure if im doing something incorrect

At least in the Marvel shows they added deliberately noise, to make the image "more alive". I personally don't like it, but many video makers do. They don't like a "too clean" image. For a lot of controversy about this, have a read about the movie "The Hobbit 2".

You are not, the Marvel shows have added digital grain to mimic being shot on film. This is normal and will be there regardless of the source.

That's what I was commenting about... It seems like stranger things season 3 is not super clear and more towards the affects of marvel shows....

That's why I was asking the person who said that it looked great on dv was using either the update, the internal app, or both.

I have the new firmware update and Season 3 does indeed look amazing on both the internal app and Apple TV 4K. There is a slight amount of “grain” but nowhere near the level of the Marvel shows and the DV implementation is huge improvement over Season 2.

You can either Google search or someone on this thread can post the direct link (which I don’t have) to the LG Korean firmware update site. You download it to a USB drive and make sure the update is in a folder labeled “lg_dtv”. Once you plug in the drive into your TV you should get a prompt on the TV that there is an update available.

There is absolutely no risk to your TV using firmware from the Korean site.

There is grain but it's hardly noticeable.

I'm using the internal app, running off the native Netflix app.

One thing to note is that my DV is set to Cinema (HOME) as opposed to Cinema (User). The standard cinema setting is too dark, even in a darkened room. Backlight set to 50.

Which preset are you using? I was using SonofTumble's DV profile but after months of getting frustrated with a lack of pop, switched to a modified Cinema Home setting which was significantly brighter.

Does the updated DV firmware improve the "cinema" setting?

thank you for the link to download.... just to make sure im doing this correctly, i clicked on the top link which is the most recent and then download, but it is taking a LOOOONG time to download the file... so its not a small update obviously (says 840mb)?

also, your second link is not working. could you list the instructions on how to install if its not too difficult?

lastly, is this a noticeable update? in other words, is it worth it to upgrade early via this korean version?

thank you and sorry for the newbie questions but i do appreciate it!!!
