My wife doesn’t really care for them and would be content listening through a tin can but at some point I think she just gave up. She knows how much I love this stuff. Watching/listening to my system is my happy place. I consider myself lucky. I don’t have a man cave but hope someday when kids are older to turn basement play area into a dedicated home theater but we’ll see.
I am in the same boat as you. Luckily my wife is ok with the speakers as long as the gear is not seen. I was very lucky to find the Salamander console that she likes. All the gear is hidden and she is happy. I think that it looks great too. For anyone that is looking for a serious av rack that meets the WAF I highly recommend looking at Salamander. They are pricey but worth it IMO. I also got away with 2 SVS cylinders lol. My main concern was weight. I have quite a bit of gear and needed a cabinet that could support it.

Hello everyone!! After looking on this forum I decided to finally pull the plug. I purchased my first OLED today which is a 55” LG C7. I will use it to play video games on a PS4 Pro and watch 4k content on my Apple TV. What are some of the things that I should do before using it settings wise. Also any separate profiles I should make per input? Thanks again and I’m happy to join the club!

I'm not in the US, but I don't know the answer.

I think I read somewhere that you can only use externally-powered hard drives for timeshifting, and not flashdrives.

I have been able to record using a flashdrive but haven't tried timeshifting, I think the flashdrive I was using was too small.

I would be interested to know what is working for people for timeshifting.

Actually, my wife and I prefer the silver bezel. It is so very thin that it really is very, very subtle. When viewed straight on, the bezel is only 5/64" wide. Moreover, immediately inside the thin 5/64" wide bezel, there is a significantly wider 19/64" border of the glass screen (even slightly wider along the the bottom edge of the screen) that remains black around the image and that effectively appears to be part of the bezel when the set is on. This black border really makes the screen pop - probably no less than on the black bezel version. (I would assume the black bezel version has this same black border inside the black bezel and around the operative portion of the screen, but you'd probably have to look closely at it to tell...) In even a slightly darkened room the thin silver bezel is somewhere between barely visible and virtually invisible. And in a dark room, the thin bezel is totally invisible.

We have our set in our living room and we (especially my wife) find that with the set off, the very subtle thin silver bezel is actually more attractive, less massive and less "industrial" looking than if the bezel - and therefore the whole front of the set - were entirely black. Obviously though, all this is simply a matter of taste - and tastes do vary.

@tylerk86 , @scherer326 , @BobWalters

I updated the settings today. Now Rev. 2.5

Minor changes to SDR. Color is now back up to 50, and Dynamic Contrast is Off. Gamut is now "Auto" for every Dynamic Range - except DV which is locked to "Wide".

Some minor adjustments to the White Balance and CMS in SDR section.

Major news on Dolby Vision. Link in my signature below.

Fair enough description of your preference. Given my experience with silver bezels, I just don't like the way light reflects off them enough to be distracting. Virtually invisible is not good enough for me these days - especially given the choice.

My last TV was a Samsung KS8000 and not a day went by where the silver bezels didn't make me insane. A decent enough TV, but I was so glad to move to the C7 (even aside from the massive picture quality difference).

I like my C7, it's so black when turned off that it's like a little black hole in the living room.

Just love it how the picture is just a rectangle floating in space, it always reminds me of that scene at the start of Superman where the bad guys are trapped in the floating rectangles flying through space...

But yeah, in reality I'd be happy with whichever model OLED I had. They're all good.

For the internal speakers, I have Atmos and Surround turned off, and am using the Standard (User) sound mode. Since it's basically just two speakers, it doesn't make sense to have Atmos or Surround active. Now, if you get a fancy sound bar, or a surround AVR rig, then you might want to turn all that stuff back on.

If your WiFi access point is fairly close by, and it is capable of generating a 5G broadcast then it should be just fine. That's what I'm doing. I ran out of ethernet ports on my switch. Now I know what I want for x-mas.

I was trying to think of the most ridiculous example of a mega-bezeled TV I once owned. A bezel within a bezel. lol

Hard to say. Usually any artifacts like that is cable related.

Also don’t waste your time exchanging your TV for another due to yellow tint on the left side. They all do it blah blah (tired of repeating myself over and over).

If you tend to watch most content in a dark room you’ll notice that imperfection more. In a lit living room you’d likely not notice as much. That’s the situation with me/neighbor - he doesn’t see it as much on his in his living room. I see it easily in my cave of a bedroom.
This is what I see. The red dots appearing, can this be a HDMI cable problem? I have no problems with any other 4K/HDR content so far. I do use pretty old hdmi cables, but isn't hdmi a case of it works or not, or can a bad/old cable generate this stuff?

These days a bad cable can indeed cause these problems. That’s definitely an odd issue but I’d absolutely point fingers at the cabling. I’ve had cables that worked fine in SDR but in HDR were problematic. Heck, I have cables that work in HDR10 but cause sparkly effects in Dolby Vision. Swap those cables out and see how it goes!

Can’t test this till the morning but I’m curious if HDR is fixed...

*edit*

Just tested. HDR is still broken/washed out.

I'll see if I can try out a different cable, a bit hard to pinpoint since PS4Pro goes to receiver and receiver to tv and swapping the cable from receiver>tv is not easy (built-in wall). Problem is both in SDR and HDR mode on AC though.

It’s an odd one, but if you’ve researched and nobody else has this issue - it’s likely the cables. Can you try direct to the TV?

Anyone have any info on the manufacturers retail pricing history for last years LG 6 series models

Based on last year, was there any price drop between now and New Years?

From what I can recall the retail price didn't drop from this time Lat year until after the Super Bowl.

I think I read somewhere that you can only use externally-powered hard drives for timeshifting, and not flashdrives.

I have been able to record using a flashdrive but haven't tried timeshifting, I think the flashdrive I was using was too small.

I would be interested to know what is working for people for timeshifting.

No need of powered HDD, USB1 is just fine. I will try USB2. I asked because I’d prefer to leave USB1 free for MKV play and use USB2 for recordings/time shift. It has to be a HDD, not a pendrive
