Have you made sure that HDMI Deep color is enabled on the inputs it’s not working on? As far as I know that must be enabled in order for HDR to work properly.

Verizon Fios looks like utter garbage on my 65" c7 but I guess thats the case with any 65" 4k set. Compressed cable signal looks awful on all of them. At my local best buy they had spectrum cable hooked up to the lg oleds, samsung qleds, and sony oled and lcds and they all looked equally as bad.

anyone else frustrated at sites like LG's where they put up a link to content and then say "coming soon" when you click on it.

http://www.lg.com/us/support-product/lg-OLED55B7A - Click on the "Best Picture Settings for your 4k or 4k oled tv" - and you get a coming soon note saying the content will be added by Jan 12. I wrote a complaint on this page. Better to not have the link than have the link and no content.

/rant over

Back to watching my lovely 55B7 that I just picked up for my birthday.

I had 2 65VT60 and replaced one with a LG 65C7 7 months ago and I was and still am ecstatic. No looking back, there is no debating the last gen Panny plasmas were damn near perfect TVs for their time. That said OLED has matured fast, still has some minor issues IMO. The brightness, colors and contrasts are phenomenal. It was such and improvement I could not longer enjoy watching my other VT60 and sold that and replaced it with a Vizio P65 which I ave now swapped to a Sony X900E. Yes they are not OLED, but watching HDR just spoils you. Both my VT60 were calibrated by Chad B. And D-Nice calibrated my C7 a few weeks agao. I am still in awe of this OLED.

BT.1886 looks nice and contrasty, but there's some black crush. If I switch to gamma 2.2, things look better. I can barely see black level 17 if I stick my face to the screen, and 18 is visible even from my seating position.

with BT.1886 l can only see bars 20 and up flash.

I beg to differ. My FiOS here in NYC looks pretty damn good. Including the non-4K HDR Olympics I'm watching now.

Even my premium channels look very good. I was just watching Divorce (HBO) from my DVR and I was pretty impressed with the PQ.

Thanks! I know, I was surprised to see the older one, however I guess is still the official one. Maybe LG will release the .50 one officially soon. Did you notice anything new?

@kluken - the calibration you had - how much of a difference do you think it made?

I see a difference and I feel it was worth it. That said I hear that technicolor mode is damn close to perfect, but I have never tried a big comparison. A quick toggle between Technicolor and my calibrated ISF Dark an hdr calibrated just looks better. To me the biggest differences are in the just above blacks and then skin tones just seem more realistic comoared to before and they were not bad before.

What ftl were your VT60s calibrated to? How about the OLED?

I mainly watch at 32 ftl, so I cannot imagine the additional brightness offered by OLED will be useful to my sensitive eyes. Lol

My VT60s were calibrated to 40-43ftl the OLED is 50 for for night mode and 60 for day mode. Don’t really use day mode as my room is always dark. I got used to,new brightness right away, enough so that is why I sold the other VT60 because evything felt so muted and dull and lacked the pop of the OLED . The biggest problem is I am so addicted to the blacks and how the TV blends into my dark room that I rarely use the bias light and after a movie I can feel the eye strain sometimes, but having the image just appear to be floating in the dark void is cool.

l recently have my set calibrated(by a friend with tools not professional) in ISF Mode, much of the settings were left default( brightness 50, contrast 85, color 50) the only diference was he put gamma 2.2 in them he made a lot of adjustment to the 20 point luminenece(gamma) control.

the end result was a image not too light(2.2) or too dark(2.4), l love how it looks now.

It depends on the channel and program for me. Some sports games look great and others look bad. My advice to anybody looking for the best pq with cable or fios, the LG does just as good a job with bad sources as Sony and Samsung with the added bonus of great viewing angle and great black levels.

I must be the only person who prefers 2.4. I don't really know what Gamma is or does, or when to use one or another. Maybe my 2.4 crushes blacks or whites - don't know. When I switch between 2.2 and 2.4, both my wife and i like the look of 2 4. I consider our viewing room to be moderately bright. Like at night watching Olympics we have two lamps on.

I shared your exact cynicism when I had to contact LG warranty service for a bright white vertical line that afflicted my three-month-old B7; but it did turn out to be a panel issue and the third-party service tech who came to my home to perform the swap was very prompt and professional.

Best part of a panel swap is you're basically getting a brand new TV but the ported electronics from your current set retain all the settings you've already dialed in.

Rest easy.

I prefer 2.4 as well. I get deeper more vibrant color with 2.4. I don’t notice any black crush or white clipping at all with 2.4, just a better looking picture. What I have noticed though is that 2.4 and bt.1886 are identical and zero difference when toggling between these two gamma levels.
