Not at all. Get a gigabit switch so you have 10/100/1000 capabilities. TV is only 10/100 but ATV is 10/100/1000. As long as your router is 10/100/1000 and jumpers between devices are all 5e or better you will get max speed possible which will be limited by your ISP speed you are paying for.

I’d still rather have 10/100 wired than wireless.

That's plenty for even UHD streaming so I doubt your buffering issue is the result of not enough bandwidth. The key to uninterrupted streaming is stable sustained bandwidth and of course the cooperation of the server at the other end. The connection graph should be as flat as Kansas.

I just got one of the refurbished 55B7 units from Walmart with hopes that it would be a brand new unit. It looks great but had 632 hours on it, so it is used at least. It was in a plain brown double box.

Is there anything in particular I should look out for? I've had good luck with LG, I have their last plasma and the PF1500 projector.

I'm not quite set up for 4k as Amazon fumbled the 4k cable delivery but the tv apps looked good. I'm not sure if the old cables that I have are fast enough, I have a 4k Roku and the LG uhd player connected through a Denon x4200. I'm not a fan of HDMI-CEC/ARC, but may need to bite the bullet for the apps.

If it looks good to you don’t look for issues. Just enjoy it.

However, with that many hours I would pull up some solid color screens and look for burn in on the panel.

The Dolby Vision problem (grays where there should black) occurs in DV sources connected to the TV via HDMI (or USB). Not on internal (to the TV) apps. That is what I understand.

As to external devices (that do Dolby Vision), there aren't that many. Apple TV, Oppo 203, and Oppo 205 all have Dolby Vision playback. There may be other 4k players that I'm not familiar with.

As to sources of 4k, there are only physical discs, and streaming services (like Netflix). Netflix has lossy sound and compressed video. Only physical discs has lossless sound (like DTS Master Audio, and Dolby True HD).

Apple TV is only a streaming device. So it has lossy audio and compressed video.

Oppo plays physical discs, so it has lossless audio audio and uncompressed video. But you have to buy your discs. No apps, so no streaming content.

Nothing perfect it seems like.

Am I missing anything?

I don't know anything about Direct TV, and if it has Dolby Vision or not.

The LG UP970 UHD player now has dolby vision if anyone is looking for a more affordable vision player. I picked one up last night and watched The Dark Tower with the new oled firmware. Blacks looked super black to me... I don't know if this disk was one that had the elevated blacks problem though.

Enjoy your set as DR Pepper noted, if you see something in normal content that's different...If your worried about a used TV buy an extended warranty. As long as that TV has a 90 day warranty you can add a 4 year mack warranty for about 150.....

DirecTV has three (3) 4K channels and they are now outputting HLG HDR full time. On chan 106, the 4K Olympic broadcasts are HLG HDR with Atmos (lossy) audio. No DV for now - as it would take too much bandwidth at least in current form. Technicolor HDR to the rescue! ( As soon as they release it. Waiting on the DV fixes first. )

The broadcasts look and sound fabulous!

Great choice, this tv is absolutely stunning. Once you got an oled tv, it is really hard to go back lol. True back and almost infinite contrast will blow you away.

Last night we were watching 'Bourne Ultimatum'. At the beginning of the movie there were no lip-sync issues. Half way thru the movie it was maybe 1 or 2 seconds off. At the end of the movie, back in sync.

Two night ago we were watching 'Bourne Supremacy' and the lip-sync problems seemed to be through the whole movie.

My setup. Sony 4k player HDMI video to TV. Sony 4k player HDMI audio to Receiver.

Any clues?

You’re not alone. I’m very sensitive to AV sync issues and it drives me insane. Streaming content generally seems ok to me. Though there are occasional instances where maybe I’m perceiving things differently. Discs are a different story.

My setup for discs: X1X -> Sony AVR -> TV

I notice the issue greatly when I enable Dolby Atmos output from the X1X. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 was really bad. A full 2 or 3 seconds behind. Changing my audio output to the different channel setups yields better results with the best leaving it at stereo uncompressed, though some movies still seem to lag slightly there as well. I’ve read that it could just be an X1X issue and there’s a beta update that resolves it. Problem is I never had these sync issues on my plasma this LG replaced.

So my resolution has been to use my receivers AV sync option

What is Technicolor HDR? What does it do?

Will it come out like in 4 months?

Would it be a selectable Picture Mode (available only when the TV detects a HDR signal)?

Give!

Couple of things, if you bought the Blu-Ray of Interstellar and registered the digital version you will get the DV 4K iTunes version "free". You can also buy the 4K Interstellar UHD as well but it is NOT DV, and includes the regular BR as well, and iTunes version code. It does look good in UHD HDR though. The back of the UHD box lists "technicolor" not sure what this means I loved this movie but to me it is way to grainy, both streamed and UHD.

That doesn’t answer their question though. It’s just a link to a discussion of a rumored update, but he’s asking what Technicolor HDR actually is.

As far as I know, it’s barely used at the moment and almost exclusively in the UK.

When these were introduced last year I took it as it was going to be something similar to what active HDR does but Technicolor's take on HDR tone mapping. If we're supposedly going to be blown away by this then that's how I still see it - like you said what's the big whoop about a limited HDR format.

Got my first DV movie disc (Despicable Me 3) and wow is it impressive on the B7P 65"! I have a half dozen or so HDR movies, but nothing animated which may (partially) account for the wow factor.

It's just getting started, and it brings traditional gamma curves to HDR content so that all those 4K SDR TV's out there can enjoy too . . .

"For example, Advanced HDR by Technicolor, which integrates HDR and SDR content in a single stream, is an open HDR distribution solution that is format agnostic. It takes all HDR and SDR formats as inputs and then normalizes the content to deliver video to any HDR or SDR device, ensuring a consistent experience in both environments."

Basically, it doesn't care if the content was mastered in DV or HDR-10. Someday, you may be able to watch the local news in DV. Imagine night crawler video in HDR. LOL

Damn, this does sound promising! But I'm not clear how Advanced Technicolor is implemented, I mean how would our televisions interpret an Advanced HDR stream? Thanks!

Doesn't mean much. There have been Technicolor logos on back covers since DVD days.

Firmware basically. The 2017 LG's can detect and decode three HDR formats today - DV, HDR, HLG. With a FW update they will also recognize technicolor HDR ( or soon to be known as Prime Single or SL-HDR1 ). The beauty of the format is that it really isn't a format but instead a container that can hold any HDR format within its confines and then unpack to a TV that knows what it is. An SDR 4K TV will ignore the HDR data signal but still have nice PQ because technicolor HDR uses traditional gamma curves. But our B7's and C7's will grab it, open it up and voila! LG announced at CES 2017 that they would add technicolor HDR to our model year. Obviously the same applies for the 2018's that will be shipping soon. It's a very symbiotic and synergistic approach on their part, and will cause the floodgates to open in terms of the quantity of HDR content that will be available.

Pretty cool!

LOL

This isn't the amazing thing, but Technicolor HDR looked awesome. LG's booth at CES this year had an E8 playing a Dodger game in technicolor HDR. Really nice.

See attached pic. All of those formats have dynamic metadata. As you will notice, HDR-10+ is getting a new name - "HDR10 Pro". There will also be HLG Pro.

Although this is all great, it's not the big thing that I can't talk about.
