Some sort???? That is not exactly definitive. Now that you have it, what number does it show?

Could have just been an app update.

To add to the excitement about the dolby vision fix... I just checked the fade to grey screen in It just before "September" and it is now silky black.

There are films that are DV on iTunes and NOT DV on the UHD. You can always use your LG remote to the top left corner, two clicks, to see what formats, resolution are playing.

I looked at the screenshots that you just posted, but aside from what appears to be a drop in exposure with the .70 version, resulting in an overall darker scene, I don't see much difference in those bars. I'm viewing on a 5K calibrated display.

Hard to capture with a smartphone but I instantly noticed the difference. Quite apparent in person. Inky blacks now.

Yes same here. Colours look more rich, but blacks are same to my eyes.

However that is just based on camera photos and upload file size limits, possibly. Plus my bad eye sight.

You guys are looking at the letterbox bars correct? That is what he is pointing out, not the actual scene itself.

If you can’t see that, whatever you are viewing on is faulty. It can’t be clearer with the black TV border contrast with he screen.

Just updated my LG OLED B7A via USB to the 04.70.70 firmware on the Korean LG site. I was on the 04.70.36 US firmware before this.

Here's some proof. Here's the Mindhunter show on Netflix on episode 8 at around 8:50 minutes in. That scene where he's waiting outside on his stoop and his girlfriend arrives on a car had the black bars turn very gray on 04.70.36 while watching on the Apple TV 4K via HDMI 1. My Apple TV 4K is on the latest 11.2.6 public firmware.

For my test screens below, I used the Dolby 'Cinema Home' preset as I know that preset had even more issues with black levels. Using default presets with brightness at 50. Also tested with Dolby 'Cinema' (which is my day to day preset) with brightness at 50 as well to make sure both presets were fixed and they both are!

Here's the BEFORE on version 04.70.36. Notice the black bars turned gray, it looked horrible:

Now, here's the AFTER on firmware 04.70.70. Voila!! The black bars remain inky black! Plus I find the colors look better too!:

Edit: here's a cropped, zoomed in look so you can see the difference better:

BEFORE (04.70.36):

AFTER (04.70.70):

It's fixed!! I'm so happy right now!
What happened to your 4.70.65 version? We are on that in Europe. It seemed to improve black levels on my Apple Tv4K. Maybe it is right now as blacks look black now

I saw the difference, but had to look at the cropped and zoomed images. TBH, I have been using the 65B7 for 4 months now and had not noticed the problem. BD from an Oppo 203. Granted I do not have anything else running HDMI to the TV. And, I only have a couple of DV BD disks. Each of which I have watched once.

I installed the latest firmware out of the Korean site 4.70.70 from 4.70.36. Didn't get to try the 4.70.65

Still waiting for technicolor HDR, but that's because DV had to be fixed first. Small steps.

Hard to say how much longer, but keep in mind that it may take some time before your particular TV shows that there's an update available - because they push these out in batches based on serial numbers. I've manually updated the last three times because I didn't want to wait for LG to decide when it was my turn. I'm guessing 1 to 2 weeks for US availability as a manual update/download.

Okay. I have mine set to auto-update, but I did try a manual update earlier today just n case, and nothing happening. I will try again, in a few days because I imagine that I have a tall serial number since the set was made in December 17, AND, I'd like this particular issue to be finished BEFORE another crops up!

I'm only 156 hours in, but I'm already sick of waiting for FW updates!

I found the same thing. For my UHD movies brightness is set at either 49 or 50 depending on the title and I have them noted for future viewing but a few like Interstellar and Enders Game need to be at 48 at least on my C7.

What I meant by "manual" update is downloading the file ( usually from the US website, but this time from the Korean website ) and then installing the FW using a thumb drive. This allows me to bypass the update routine built into the TV. Clicking on "Manual" from the TV's interface may not get you the update any sooner because of the way LG pushes it out in batches.

Still no sound coming from the receiver unless I use the optical. This is a refurbished tv with 620 hours on it when I got it, so I suppose the arc could be defective. Other than that it looks good.

Yay! Brand new owner of a 55B7A OLED that will be delivered on Friday! Can't wait! First new tv since 2008 when I bought my Samsung LN46A630.

Does anyone have a list of what apps are on the tv? I'm hoping that I can get rid of my FireTV because I want to access Netflix, Plex and Playstation Vue.

Any owners here have dish network, non 4K receivers?
I’m going to rely on ATV and the TVs Netflix and amazon app for 4K content and am letting the tv upscale our dish
Wondering if I should set the dish output to 720 or 1080

Thanks for any advice

You could try both and choose which looks better, but I think the general consensus is that the LG is more likely to do better with 720, because progressive, not interlaced.

I have my hopper/sling set to 720p. I tried both settings couldn’t tell much difference but I think the dish guide text is a little clearer with 720

Either way, keep in mind that Dish Network does not offer a single 1080i channel in it’s full resolution and hasn’t for well over a decade.

That is not what I wanted to hear! I am not going to Korea for the update (stomping foot) so it looks like I'll have to hurry up and wait!

What a revolt'in development!

Well that's the only way I get sound at the moment. I found the arc in the other audio menu, rather than the on screen one and set it to that. Still no sound coming from the receiver unless I use the optical. This is a refurbished tv with 620 hours on it when I got it, so I suppose the arc could be defective. Other than that it looks good.
I doubt that the ARC electronics are defective on the TV. It's more likely due to LG's implementation, which does not play nice with several different brands of AVR's. I finally threw in the towel and got one of these: http://www.avproconnect.com/ac-da12-...er--audio.html

My AVR passes 4K 4:4:4 60Hz HDR-10, but not DV or HLG. So this way I can take my DirecTV 4K box and divert the Atmos audio direct to my AVR via HDMI, and at the same time direct connect via HDMI to the TV and get HLG HDR video. I don't need use the TOSlink output and deal with its limitations anymore.
