I noticed the browsers white address bar retention in the first couple days. I let pixel refresher do it's thing and it was gone. My brightness light etc.. settings are reaaal low for desktop use. When gaming I run it at moderate settings. For Movie/Show viewing I run it full blast HDR 100 light 70 contrast 50 brightness.

Fingers are crossed I don't get any permament burn in over long term use. Luckily I don't stick to one task for too long anyway except for desktop use. I average about 10 maybe 15 hours a day on it.

It's quite bright though. I have it on 3 sides (top, right, left) and the TV is 2 feet away from the wall. It lights up a good portion of the wall. I'm thinking about only doing a strip along the top maybe? Would that be a good idea?

What are the down sides of running an OLED with bias lighting? I'm trying to do A/B comparisons and I can't tell if it's just all in my head but I think the picture looks better (besides the lack of banding) without the bias lighting.

Updated with pic
That looks really bright. I picked up some LED lights from LIFX (the model they call LIFX Z) which are customizable (colour/temperature/brightness) via an app and HomeKit. They can also be controlled by my Harmony Ultimate remote so I have them set to come on/off when I run any activity involving the TV. I've set the colour temperature to 6500K and after a couple weeks of use settled on 25% brightness. Given my setup, I only have a single strip running along the top, which you can hopefully see in the attached photo. I was unsure how well this would work, but I really like the look of it and the LIFX Z has a nice fade on/off which is a nice added touch.

Did you get the B7 or C7? What size?

I also purchased my 65 C7 at BB and purchased the extended warranty for 5 years.

Do they not offer 5 years in Canada?

Thanks. I ordered one from Comcast and it will be delivered tomorrow Tuesday 3/6.

Looking forward to hooking it up and enjoying the increased PQ performance on my C7.

Will report with update after I had a chance to view some programming.

I have the Philips BDP7502 and it received the DV update a few days ago. It's my first 4K player so I have nothing to compare it to, but it does the job and I have no complaints.

Completely OT (as if talking about 4K players isn't OT), but about the Oscars, it was extremely gratifying seeing cinematographer Roger Deakins, screenwriter James Ivory and Gary Oldman winning Oscars, especially after finding out it was their first Oscar wins. How is that even possible? I just assumed they all had won a boatload of Oscars by now.

Speaking of the new Comcast box...

Does anyone know if there is a way to have the box turn off and on with the tv and not have it just time out?

Hi everyone,

I recently received a 2017 LG oled. I am new to oled, I read that there is a break in period ? What is the best way to do that ? Where can i find the color slides ? Should I check banding ?
Regarding the settings, I currently use Technicolor Expert for sdr and Cinema (user) for hdr 10, with the oled light and brightness turned down to 30 by fear of damaging the panel, and color to 48.

Also what is the difference between the oled light setting and the brightness setting ? Should I use the noise reduction settting when bluray are too grainy ? It didn't seem to do much.

Concerning gamma, For Hdr it is on 2.2, but for SDR I find the bt.1886 too dark, and 2.2 too clear.

Also should I left the pixel shift setting on ?
I didn't touch the manual pixel refresher yet, as I understood the panel do something like this every 4 hours of use.

I watched parts of the revenant 4k last night which looked phenomenal, but batman vs superman 4k was disapointing, very grainy and crushed blacks.

In short I am looking for advice not to damage the panel and the best way to break it in safely.

Thank you very much for your help and inputs

Agreed, Transformers The Last Knight is impressive in 4K HDR (the major battle at the end is something else!). Another movie that is right up there with it is IMO.... The LEGO Ninjago Movie.

- Both movies are absolute top tier eye candy

No break-in period is the conclusion most have come to. Don't check for banding, what you can't see won't hurt you!

Also what is the difference between the oled light setting and the brightness setting ? Should I use the noise reduction settting when bluray are too grainy ? It didn't seem to do much.

OLED light dictates the overall amount of light the TV outputs. Brightness sets the black point of the TV, raise brightness and what should be black becomes gray. Noise reduction can be used, but it is generally recommended to only use it on low quality content like cable.

Concerning gamma, For Hdr it is on 2.2, but for SDR I find the bt.1886 too dark, and 2.2 too clear.

I didn't touch the manual pixel refresher yet, as I understood the panel do something like this every 4 hours of use.

Yes, leave it on. The panel will run a quick version of the refresher after every 4 hours of use (once the set is turned off). The major refresh is done automatically every 2000 hours I believe, could be wrong on that number. It is generally recommended to not run this manually unless you have subborn IR you are trying to get rid of as there are some reports running it isn't great for the TVs lifespan.

I watched parts of the revenant 4k last night which looked phenomenal, but batman vs superman 4k was disapointing, very grainy and crushed blacks.

Haven't watched that so I can't comment, but I will comment on grain. Grain is just something you'll have to deal with. Some movies add it as an aesthetic choice, others will have it naturally by still being shot on film. Even movies shot digitally will still have some grain, especially in dark scenes. 4k just makes it even easier to see.

In short I am looking for advice not to damage the panel and the best way to break it in safely.

Thank you very much for your help and inputs

So is the 4K Comcast box really all that? I'm asking because I googled it last night and all I saw was a bunch of complaints about how all it's good for is letting you stream Netflix in 4K? Something I already can do with apps on my TV and BR player?

Oh... and more complaints about how it's $20 a month. Nothing that had me wanting to call them up to get one yesterday or anything.

What am I missing? I've gotten quite used to the garbage Comcast PQ and that $10 "HD" fee that I've been paying for the last 10 years. Comcast has to charge for new tech ya know... LOL

I agree.

I didn't see a need to buy a warranty for BI. I ran a plasma for 7 years and never had issues. I don't do things like watch CNN for 8 hours a day or leave my TV on pause for an hour while I run to Costco.

I have no doubt it can happen... but with my viewing habits... it's super unlikely. I'm a huge movie nut... and most of my viewing is UHD discs. I've already got 40 in my library in a month... LOL

When not doing a movie it's usually Netflix programming. Don't get me wrong, I do watch Comcast occasionally, but I didn't buy this TV to watch 720p content all day.

LG UP970. I picked it up a few days ago when I decide to scrap the XB1X as a BR player due to audio sync and other issues.

The 970 solved all my problems... works great with the LG TV and Sound Bar and supports DV.

Is the image quality better than the Xbox One X? I know XBX doesn’t have DV but wondering if it’s worth buying this when I already have an XBX.

Cable companies love to nickel and dime you. A fee to "rent" their box and the audacity to charge a fee if you want HD channels. We pay enough for the service as is. Crazy...

That depends. The image quality is just as good if not better. The problem I was having (along with many others) is audio sync issues. Visit the BR app page on the MS store and it has a 1.5/5 star rating with the first 10 pages or so being complaints about how bad the BR player is on the XB1X.

I got the 970 and all the problems went away. Well worth $179 and now I just use the XB1X for games.

I got the 970 and all the problems went away. Well worth $179 and now I just use the XB1X for games.

Ok thanks. Have you compared it to the OPPO 203?

Other than price ($179 vs $500+) ... no. But there's some posts a few pages back about it about how it's very high quality and built better than the 970.

Whether it's worth an extra $300+ is your call. I went with the 970 because I didn't have a reason not to. LG has a good reputation... and the money saved can buy me a dozen or so UHD discs for my library.

Oh... and more complaints about how it's $20 a month. Nothing that had me wanting to call them up to get one yesterday or anything.

What am I missing? I've gotten quite used to the garbage Comcast PQ and that $10 "HD" fee that I've been paying for the last 10 years. Comcast has to charge for new tech ya know... LOL

Pretty much what I read last night... so again, what am I missing?

Thanks for the info. Given the up and down comments regarding the box I'm going to call Comcast today. I'm curious...
