If you want to have a laugh then take a look at the privacy protection agreement (haven't found it online, only in the TV - the online copy I found seemes to be pre-GDPR). LGE seems to have some pretty wild ideas about GDPR - i.e. GDPR doesn't require explicit consent if the company has to retain information for "lawful purposes" (as in required by law, necessary for fulfilment of sale etc.), but the agreement is talking about "lawful purposes for customer behaviour analytics" :-D I wonder if a real lawyer ever saw it...

Also, the product terms oblige every user to defend the employees and directors of LGE against litigation, I hope you're all saving so you can fund them

Btw I have never accepted any terms, yet the first one is ticked, I just close them every time because of all the BS inside - I could never agree to them, obviously...

I think the 2 initial choices are "Cinema" and "Cinema Home." The word "user" attached to either preset indicates that changes have been made to the settings within that preset. Cinema Home is a bright-room equivalent to Cinema. Similar to the ISF bright room and dark room presets. Is it possible that you've increased the brightness (black level) setting in your Cinema preset which is affecting the black levels?

I think this is strictly affected by the DV through external sources issue. The settings I used are the ones from @sonoftumble for DV, and they are fantastic with DV content on the native app.

I don't think you can - I believe you have a different "broadcast system" - Same as our DVD's won't play in EU players, different "region"

I also noticed some funky DV behaviour, for me it's always been there with Apple TV 4K

For example if you switch the Apple TV to Dolby Vision then setting OLED light above 50 will completely destroy colors - but only in the Apple TV UI, not when actually playing a movie. And I think (not at the TV right now) that it only happens with Cinema Home and not Cinema.

I got similiar behaviour with some HDR movies. where in some scenes the blacks would be grey, same thing - had to set OLED light to 50 to get accurate colours, but I wasn't able to reproduce that recently and I usually run with OLED light setting of 100 (just at night I switch energy saver to auto).

AFAIK OLED light should have absolutely no effect on colours, only on brightness, something in there is buggy...

Maybe someone can help me here.

I just purchased the LG UP970 4K player for my LG OLED B7.

The settings menu on the LG UP970 allows me to select either 24Hz or 60Hz. It defaults to 60Hz.

Should I leave at 60Hz or does it make sense to select 24Hz given that movies run at 24fps?

The DV black levels bug doesn’t affect Netflix DV, right?

I'd vote for 24 since that's native for movies as you said. Make sure 'real cinema' is set to on for any movie viewing mode on the TV you plan to use (this allows 24 Hz. playback). For Dolby Vision 'real cinema' can't be turned off, just FYI.

I know that as a general rule that you should be calibrated to a dark gamma of 2.4 for a dark room.

but you can also make a good calibration 2.2 not?

yesterday I was watching some old bluerays (most of all indiana jones and ben hur) and they looked horrible with a gamma of 2.4, the contrast was too high, some backgrounds were black masses without any detail and the actors seemed like they all had a kind of super tan.

changing to 2.2 the image was much better, and not only for the details in black, the image was much more dynamic, more brilliant and with more detail in the actors.

2.4 looks great for current movies but it seems that 80% of the catalog out there still using a gamma 2.2, was the standard for so many years not?

I get a weekly email on hot posts from Audiogon. They are into high end audio. I was reading them talking about Oppo ceasing production, and one guy wrote the following.

"BTW last might I A/B'd a 4K movie downloaded via Amazon Prime/Roku and compared it to a 4K Blue Ray disc played on my Oppo 205 using the same Anthem AVM-60 pre/pro. Same HDMI cable brand and model passing from the Roku and Oppo to the AVM-60. Video quality is similar. But the Oppo 205 player audio quality kills the Roku download audio quality."

This is of interest to me because I like good sounding movies, especially bass.

You get lossless audio with disc. With streaming, you typically get Dolby Digital (plus), sometimes with Atmos, but it's not lossless.

I have always found lossless audio to have much more LFE than a lossy stream.

Continuing on the refresh rate topic, is there a way to tell what signal is being sent to the TV? I got an AppleTV 4K, and I'm playing around with the "match refresh rate" setting in the menu, but I can't tell which apps support 24Hz playback and which are sending out 60Hz.

I know I can click the "HDMI1" popup on the TV with the cursor and it tells me that I'm currently viewing 2160p, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Digital audio, but it doesn't tell me anything about the current refresh rate.

I've had mine set to 'auto' for over a year and it's always worked. But, .70 is on the way (already released in Asia) so maybe that's part of the issue.

Netflix, Amazon, Plex and Infuse do support 24Hz on ATV 4 (latest firmware) and 4K.
Almost all apps use the native ATV player so everything the ATV is capable of it is supported by default. Infuse has its own player.

A few of us have noticed this. Part of me still thinks it's some psychological/physiological thing, like it takes that long for your eyes/brain to adjust. Whatever it is, sit back and enjoy!

I had same experience at 200 hours and 400 hours. Both times I got up in the morning and asked 'who made my excellent TV even better overnight'? Both times I turned down my backlight 5 points.

it's not physiological. Even my wife noticed that morning and she never notices that stuff. The day or two after I noticed it is when I looked at the hours on the TV for the first time. I didn't even know there was a 200 hour phenomenon until I experienced it.

And yes I do sit back and enjoy it
