LG OLED 65W7P and 77W7P Owners Thread

Owners thread for LG's W7 2017 flagship OLED TVs.

Please see an accurate analysis of the W7 here:
Article - https://www.avsforum.com/lg-w7-oled-tv-hands-on/
YouTube Discussion -

I picked mine up on April 5, 2017. Setup was surprisingly easy and after adjusting the picture settings to taste, I can see the bump in performance and fidelity from my G6.

I tell everyone this year I expect there to be 2 "best TV in the world" with really both, the W7 and Sony's A1E sharing the same panel manufacturing.

There are numerous analysis already done on the W7, so I just wanted to cut out this slice of AVS for those of us who are willing to go for the Retail Top Dog 2017 OLED and own the coolest looking TV form-factor in history (to date).

I'll be ordering the 65 inch April 13th and it will delivered May 24th. I'll be posted pics of the entire install.

Bought mine for $9,999.99 CAD
http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/...10620651.aspx?

Firmware, Manuals, Support, etc... -> http://www.lg.com/ca_en/support/supp...t/lg-OLED65W7P

The only explanation of the settings that are similar are from the C7 review -> http://ca.rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/c7/settings

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

UPDATE: May 25th 2017

Here's pictures of my install that I completed myself. Two things I don't like so far is that ribbon cable color, should have made it black, and when the sound bar speakers are rising when powered on and closing when powered off the motor is a little loud.

I had to use the included ribbon extension. Instructions are clear and easy to follow, everything mentioned needs to be done as you can damage the TV and you'll be giving yourself a harder time to install.

UPDATE: June 1st 2017

Shipped w/ fw version; 3.51.20 and as of today version 3.60.09 is avail.

Improved, the sound bar provides a bit bigger sound and great built-in Atmos decoding.

^^^ This TV is all about style, the whole TV being less than 3/16" thick is the key

It is 100% against the wall and surprisingly wasn't hard to place on the metal wall sheet. The magnets are really strong and would still keep the TV in place if the 2 top hooks wasn't there.

The OLED Picture app is really cool. It does about a 8 second slideshow of each frame with music. You can customize it with your own pictures also.

Al,

Very cool.

So is that glow on the wall from the panel?

The television screen is the retina of the mind's eye.

Cool Oled77w7p

Had a peak at the 65W. ( it wasn't just a peak, we spent a couple hours) Actually viewing it and comparing to the Sony A1, 9 series Sony, LG OLED77G6P, and the Samsung units was worth the 2hr trip. No doubt the W7 is the way to go. Even my wife was blown away and agreed that's the way to go. The Atmos sound was impressive. We luved how clean and uncluttered the presentation area looked. All that bulkiness is gone, no need for another piece of furniture to support a tv, you only need an inconspicuous self for the soundbar, (which IMO looks great) , which could be blended into the wall. I'm looking forward to making my purchase! How soon? Very impressed with Best Buy Magnolia Associates

I'm okay with bulk (77G6P) if it means I get the 40% increase in screen size (and 3D) along with it.

Just being discovered this morning.. the HDR Effect mode for SDR content on this set is where it's at. This mode bumps up the image performance into the range of what as standard is the SDR performance on the A1.

I would recommend anyone looking at a 2017 LGs take a look at the HDR Effect mode for SDR.. This is the only mode IMO that takes the W7 into what is shown as default on the A1E picture modes when Extended Dynamic Range is on High (which is the setting I use).. There still some toggling that has to be done with the custom motion controls to get motion near what the A1E has as default.. Have to figure out which motion slider config nails the optimum motion.

The counterpart to this setting on the 2017 is indeed the HDR Effect picture mode!

The W7 woke up

So the only way to enjoy a TV is to have a calibrator touch it?

I can't drive an AMG Mercedes unless I drive NASCAR?

Can't drink water unless I can swim?

For the record.. no calibrator is that good to make an LG outside HDR Effect mode look like HDR Effect mode.

Anyone else see vertical banding?

Got 65w7 and after one day started noticing vertical banding . I think saw it slightly on a solid white page (google page) initially but now It's visible on all content (even TV's OOBE) with same\solid background. Tried resetting and refreshing panel to no avail. Other than that the TV is amazing.

It may have some but only near black. You shouldn't see it on bright backgrounds (or on solid colors). I would classify that as defective and recommend initiating an exchange.

I would return it if it does not clear up after a few cycles. For the money you paid for that tv it should not be visible in content.

It's also important to keep expectations tempered. It shouldn't be as visible as it is in those photos, but you can pay $20k and still have visible bands that show up in content.

If it was just on google page\all white page with minor barely noticeable bands like first time I might have got over it, though I bet I'd always look for it knowing about it. But I can see it everywhere now. I reached out to Best Buy and sent them pics. They're issuing a replacement.

Has anyone successfully added external speakers with good sync? I tried optical out to add external subwoofer from a receiver, but the receiver's subwoofer plays with a delay. There's no TV setting to delay the soundbar's output, but I guess that'd desync video\audio then? Tried ARC too, but that doesn't output any sound through the receiver. Maybe because I'm driving the TV from a PC via a different HDMI.
