There isn’t an issue with DV over HDMI except that the manufacturer of your source equipment needs to update their firmware to the latest DV profile.

Anyone having trouble playing 4K Dolby Vision content from an AppleTV 4K? I have the beta firmware running on the ATV and December firmware on the A1E, and the Netflix app on the ATV plays back Dolby Vision perfectly. However any iTunes content that is supposed to be DV doesn't play as DV - just as regular 4K content.

I've played back 4K HDR content using the new Amazon FireTV and the AppleTV 4K.

Ever since ATV4K got the 11.3 beta it has worked with DV on the Sony's, been using it for a while now. I watched an episode of Mindhunters in DV last night on my A1E.

Go to the website and sign your device up for the tvos beta. After a few minutes, it will add a beta checkbox to your software update screen, and then you will get beta updates.

Thanks Peter. What's the best way to verify that it's actually DV content? The ATV menu is in DV for me (the DV icon pops up and disappears on top right), but when I start playback the screen flashes black and it doesn't play in DV (and looking at action menu/picture settings doesn't show "Dolby Vision" as it does for DV content when playing back say, Mindhunters on Netflix on ATV).

Agree. I've owned many Panny plasmas, up to a VT50 (which I bought from you), and two different 4K LG OLEDs. Once you get used to it, I love how it is just a screen sitting there.

Thanks, as a follow up I know Apple 4K tv via the latest beta firmware update can do Dolby vision but can Chromecast Ultra do Dolby vision on the Sony A1E or is there still an hdmi issue there.

Go to system in the atv menu and do a restart and then try playing Mindhunters again

Make sure you have match frame rate and match dynamic range both on

My atv4k has become somewhat unstable after the beta, I have to restart it daily

Are the DV titles you are trying to play through the 4K ATV titles that you bought through iTunes? The library that came over from Vudu that was shared across to iTunes via Movies anywhere show they are 4K DV titles, but appear to only play at 1080p with no HDR. Anything I have bought or rented on the ATV directly comes through in all the glory of 4K DV.

I am guessing most on this thread have a newer AVR that handles all the HDMI connections...with one HDMI to the A1E. If you want everything to go straight to the display, you are going to have to buy an HDMI switch to something similar. I don't own an Apple 4k TV, so it is possible you don't need to use one of the two available "more capable" HDMI inputs on the A1E...I am sure someone else can chime in with whether or not there is a benefit for that device.

Its an A1E with a proper base instead of a kickstand. IMO, A1E is a "flagship" simply by styling, I don't think the performance will differ between the two, just depends on the look you want. Not sure on audio differences, but I don't use tv speakers.

Other than panel brightness, which LG may introduce brighter panels in the next odd year revamp (2019), not sure what better the 2017 Sonys need to do.

Up until I owned this OLED, my biggest complaints with an LG OLED were near black and motion processing, well, the A1E nails both. I'd like to see a 1000 nit OLED, other than that, not really concerned.

I’m going to be purchasing a new 65 inch Sony OLED around July this year and it’s going to be either the A1E or the A8F, since Sony is going to be offering both of these models for sale. Should I expect to find the A8F cheaper than the A1E since the A1E is the flagship? It’s a year old model though

I own an LG EC9300 which is an excellent tv and was the first LG OLED, it has its shortcomings such as subpar motion processing as well as a few other weaknesses but it has all the advantages of OLED displays and I will never buy anything other than OLED so that’s why I’ll be getting the SONY OLED this time around to upgrade for much better overall motion processing and 4K.

The upcoming Panasonic OLED wont be better than the A1E or A8F right?

I find it hard to believe that the A8F and A1E to have identical performance, the A8F is still a newer set, why would Sony bother desiging and releasing a new model if the only difference was the stand?

Hi all -- I'm using a harmony remote hub to control the A1E via IP. Having an issue with it. If the TV is off for awhile, the harmony will no longer turn it on. It's as if it has lost it's internet connection. I can power it on with the Sony remote. Then the Harmony will turn it on and off fine until the TV has been off for awhile again. Then the problem is back. It seems like the internet connection is timing out when the TV is on standby. Anyone else seen this? Any ideas? thanks!

I would think that almost everything you play on the Oppo will be 24 frames per second, in which case it should actually be OK on HDMI 1 or 4, while the Xbox you certainly want on HDMI 2 or 3. The Apple TV I suspect a lot of the content streamed will be 60 frames per second, so again HDMI 2 or 3 makes sense.

But yes to use everything fully means getting an AVR or other HDMI switch capable of handling full 4k DV 60Hz switching.

Yeah, the OP might wanna research how LG has like 5 models and most have the same performance.

People always fall for new = better when facts point to = same. The only thing the 2018 LG's bring that we know of is better video processing because they are trying to catch up with Sony, who has nothing to improve until the X1 ultimate comes out. So what is Sony going to do with the same panel and same chip?

If you note the LCD models like the 940 and ZD9 arent being replaced yet either. This year is a holdover for Sony, because the displays are so good until their new chip is out.

Same experience here. I gave up because it was so unreliable and just stuck an IR emitter in front of the set.

I was surprised how many people rushed to load the beta firmware, Apple even warns they're not responsible if it bricks your ATV.
