Is there any way to force the TV to stay with external audio?
I have the same problem and haven't found a way to disable internal speakers and permanently use external audio. I have a Harmony powering up my Marantz Receiver and A1E, audio connected using ARC/CEC. I've set delays such that most of the time the TV recognizes the external speakers but every now and then the A1E will anyway decide to switch back to TV speakers (I suspect it has to do with if the TV is warmed up and powers on more quickly than usual). I've tried setting to external audio and turning off for the setting that automatically detects external audio but the TV still occasionally decides to use internal speakers.
I have same setup and resolved issue by turning off hdmi control in marantz

This does then stop the ARC

Lost HDR Please Help??

Hi,
For some reason, I lost HDR on Netflix and on my HDR blu-ray disc. I did do a factory reset on my X700 player because of freezing issues as per Sony support. I'm not sure if the had anything to do with it, but lost all HDR on this TV and my tv settings have not changed. Checked my Samsung on netflix and I'm getting HDR. TV is just over a month old. I'm lost any help would be really appreciated? I've unplugged the TV and did a restart.

Thank you, Jerry

OK, so on the dimming. I paused a bright Chevy commercial on Directv and let it sit there 5 mins, took images every minute, and then used menu's to see if the screen would brighten up or if it had actually dimmed (tricks we used to figure out the older LG's), and it had not dimmed in 5 minutes of pausing.

So does it only dim on HDR?

The one on the TV doesn't show HDR, but my Sony X700 player does on Netflix.

since you have the 65 oled and the 75 940e, can I get your thoughts on the viewing experience when you are dealing with 10 more inches?

The 10" is def WOW. I was able to move the 65"1-foot closer, so that helps with that some. On HDR, the high nit highlights are brighter on the 940E, but the OLED has more depth of image and tons of it's own type of pop.

I like the OLED because normal SDR content like day shots, maintain a depth of image that the LCD doesn't. The dimming zones don't offer as much an advantage in those bright day shots IMO, that the OLED does by having every pixel that can individually offer different levels of light and dark. Contrast ratio gives you that dimensional 3D look on 2D, and the OLED just has more.

Long story short, I prefer the OLED at 65", over the LCD at 75". Don't take that as the 940E is bad, it is by far the best LCD I have ever owned, and I watched HDR flicks in a dark room for months without complaint. The OLED just offers an image I prefer, and I think it is because I mostly always owned plasma. The 75" is more immersive.

IMO, the best tv you could buy would be a 77" A1E, to bad its 12k LOL... Chunon just went thru the same thing. We both went from 2016 LG OLED's to the 940E, to the A1E. I miss the size, no lie, but overall I prefer the SDR and HDR image of an OLED. My main complaints with the 2016 LG were near black and motion, and the A1E has no problems here.

I agree with every thing you said there, the size is definitely a plus and the 940e is an awesome set . I did have some dse which I think is unavoidable on that model. I really missed the richness of the Oled picture so I will make a size sacrifice for now till the 77” doesn’t require car financing

No if your screen was dimming you would notice it on SDR material as well. Out of curiosity did you install the DV update via automatic update or by usb?

I considered this set but ended up going with the lg due to price and the fact that I will probably end up buying the 940e in the next couple of months. If I was just buying one, it would have been the A1
I have the lg 9800 oled and I?m well aware of near dark issues, hopefully they aren?t as bad on the newer sets
I really want the 75 in our living room but it?s got half the seating off center, up to 45?
I?m cetainly no videophile so the off axis viewing might be a bigger issue on the forum than in real life

Thanks for the feedback

That is what I figured, I mean the LG was obvious when it dimmed down after a few minutes, and then if you pulled up the LG user menu it would brighten right up. Very obvious.

Not sure @jrref did all that.

That sounds exactly like how my A1E currently is the only difference is pressing menu doesn't brighten it up. You have to specifically hit the home button.

It is crazy. The good news is hopefully my issue and the few others who are experiencing it can get it resolved with a future firmware update. The common theme is we didn't experience this issue until we installed the latest firmware update.

Strange. I watch content from my AppleTV 4K for many hours a night and have never experienced that issue.

I would try a factor restore on Android.

At least Sony is still doing FALD, thank goodness, so we as user's can have options. 77A1E did increase in cost, they where incredibly priced just 30 days ago, still not priced bad on the street......

Does anyone in Australia have the Dolby vision update ? Looks to me like they haven’t released it for us yet but I thought it’s worth asking the forum ?

Last firmware update with DV support also seems to have introduced some bugs, I've been holding off for that reason, maybe by the time Sony rolls it out to Europe and Australia they will have worked them out.

Sony 65A1E

On the other hand i haven't noticed bugs and am really enjoying watching all the DV content on Netflix. I really think the PQ on Altered Carbon for example is outstanding!

I am starting to lean into the ATV4K and DV is dark camp. I had previously watched Bright in HDR10 on the ATV4K and it was much better. Watched last night with the wife and it was too dim, we even watched in a blacked out room.

I swapped the ATV4K out for the UBP-X700 I have, and checked out Bright in HDR10, looked better. Since I am not using the internal app, I am gonna stop using DV via HDMI right now until this sorts itself out, since even the ATv4K DV support is still early beta.

I have a question, i don't own an A1E but if i was to purchase the 65 inch A1E, i personally dont like the backwards tilt the screen has, can i place something under the rear foot of the tv to somewhat RAISE the tv forward to have the screen sitting upright as opposed to at a backwards tilted facing angle? I dont know what Sony was thinking with having the screen tilted backwards like that when they were designing this TV, It makes absolutely no sense.

I would not shim it.

You stop noticing the tilt, trust me I bought a crimson av stand to use and I didn't.

Search the A1E threads for Crimson stand, and you can use that instead.
