I have yet to see proof of this dimming. I wonder if this is not just hype or overblown? Can someone post a video of this dimming happening cause I did update my A1E with the recent firmware release and have no such issue. We need to see some proof

Video is very hard to do because the biggest difference is in HDR (High) and two things prevent most of the popular equipment to do it correctly:
- you need HDR capable camera to show the real difference
- most of the "cheap" equipment has an auto-gain that corrects the brightness of the video

I've tried with some digital cameras and phones and I'm not satisfied with results.

It's much easier to take a photo before it dims and after with pretty much every camera that can be locked in aperture, iso and shutter speed.

Ok if the dimming was so noticeable it wouldn’t matter. Any decent modern phone could capture a dramatic dimming on the screen, especially if it’s HDR getting dimmed . The change in nits would of be so dramatic as it couldn’t be missed. Going from 650 nits to even 500 nits is very very noticeable. So once again I say I don’t believe this dimming is a real problem/occurs

I've posted link to two images above that are the real difference.
I do not agree with you on the video and the difference that couldn't be missed (on video) because I come with real life experience and it's not that easy to capture it if you don't have two identical screens beside each other or the proper equipment with at least disabled autogain.
I have the video made by phone but the result is - not the dimming of the screen on the video but the brightening of the wall (because of autogain). And still it doesn't show the full effect.

I believe in one of the other threads it was reported that dimming was occurring regardless of HDR or not. I don't get the dimming on mine as others don't aswell even after the update. I believe some have tried to duplicate it to see but to no avail.FWIW If it doesn't have the dimming whats the point of trying to duplicate it.If you don't see it its not there or atleast non noticeable.I never ever noticed it and didn't even know it existed till I read about the problems people were having.

I don't notice either in usage, but if I pause in HDR, it dims. It seems like more people have a problem with it while gaming.

So you can say "I don't see it with live content", fine, but that doesn't mean it isn't there. I thought the same until I paused HDR to intentionally look for it.

The odd thing to me is, I can't make mine do it pausing SDR, but some can. There is no reason this should be erratic, either it does it or it does not. Unless there are more parameters than APL which factor into why and when it dims...

I haven't seen it with SDR or gaming but the gaming I've been doing lately is not HDR.

I have this issue, i think it is unreasonable to say it does not occur or is a real problem.
I do believe the issue is not catastrophic, live content is usually fine (havent checked sports out yet)
But the TV behaves worse after a firmware update, this should not happen with any tech update of any kind.
Whether it bothers someone or not is very personal and related to how they use the display.

If you are a rpg game player for instance, you spend time in menu's often.
For it to dim and brighten all the time is not correct behaviour.

wondering if any of the calibrators like d-nice and others have made any comments on the issue of dimming on these sets.Being that they have calibrated many of the A1e's they would of mentioned something? I tried a search in the calibration thread and didn't find anything.Just wondering what they have to say...

I am new to the A1E, so am not familiar with these button functions. Can you tell me more?

Sounds like what you are asking is similar to the problem I have with streaming media and FF and RW that require a long press for some streaming FF and RW functions on my Harmony Ultimate remote, and if that is the case, I get around the problem by also programming those functions to buttons on the screen, where you can long press several seconds with desired effect.

Also, as an unrelated Harmony question......are there discrete codes available perhaps for Picture modes....so you can quickly switch between types such as Cinema Pro, Cinama Home, Standard, etc? That way, you can perhaps even automatically use one of watching TV, one for watching Blurays, etc, or at least make it easier to switch.

The fastest way I can figure to get to these settings is to use the Action menu, and then scroll down to Picture adjustments. Is there a better way?

Also, is there a quicker way to get to the settings screen.....besides going to the Home screen and having to scroll all the way to the bottom? You would think there would be a single button to get to settings.

Also, in an unrelated question......For something like playing Sonos music.......is there an easy way to mirror the screen of my iPhone screen on the A1E, so I can see the details of what songs are playing, etc. I know there is an easy way, if I owned an Apple TV, but I have an Amazon Fire TV, and do not see another need to have both. I would not need to sync the audio....just the screen video. The audio is already playing through my receiver, using my Sonos Connect.

I own the Japanese KJ-55A1. Sony began updating for Dolby Vision, HLG, and changes to the voice control. The search screen using the microphone has moved to the bottom of the screen. The Amazon video app has changed names to Prime Video. Applications can be excluded from the Google voice search.

Wondering if there is post of when and where the dimming is actually occuring be it at pausing hdr or the like. Connections ? For example i have everything run thru my reciever hdmi out to tv hdmi input 2..dont use arc. Not saying the connections make a difference but none the less. I know some had said its real annoying but is this only while being paused? Just inquiring as maybe some can post exactly when the dimming occurrs everytime or not..

All you need to do is watch some live sports e.g soccer or basketball that has static logos on the corners of the screen via your ATV or Sky tv or apple boxes i.e. via hmdi port, or via live streaming from your mobile device and you will see it dim greatly after 30 secs. It's a bug in the latest firmware so ALL sets will be affected - it's a software bug, not hardware.

I have not noticed any dimming either. I watch live sports and use ATV4K with DV and HDR content. I even tried pausing on bright scenes for a few minutes on HDR and sports (soccer). I will check it out again but so far I've been fortunate. I am not a gamer so that might help

I’ll chime in and say that I just realized that since downloading the OTA update from the end of March I haven’t noticed dimming at all either. When i was on the first Dolby Vision update that you had to download from Sony.com I would notice it when something was paused after a ~minute. (It never bothered me for the record as it never happened while I was actually watching/playing something),
