A few ideas, if you haven’t already tried these:

Different power outlet.

Unplug all cables except the power cable and try switching to antenna tv.

Try this to enter safe mode: https://www.sony.com/electronics/sup...icles/00127645

I've tried a soft reset (holding the power button till the TV powers off then back on) as well as pulling the power from anywhere from 60 seconds to 10 minutes for good measure and still nothing. The TV responds to all remote commands and still outputs sound, just no picture. I'm assuming the panel or some other component has outright failed. I did not purchase any extended warranty and as far as I can find the warranty on this set is only 1 year from purchase. I will call into Sony support in the morning, but I'm curious if anyone has any other suggestions to try.

How does one find the setting for "X-tended Dynamic Range"? I do not see it on my A1E, running Oreo....

Oops! Ignore that, it was left over from my Z9D.

1-2 months if ever.
Some of the updates were only released in US and some of them only in EU.
This one - we can predict that late January/early February is a safe bet.

Thanks, I tried it but can't see whether I am in safe mode or not as there is never an image on the screen. I've finally gotten through to someone at Sony support on chat. Their support number just has a recording that there aren't any reps available and to try later. It hangs up after the message plays once. I've never had this much trouble reaching Sony support before.

Figured I would come back and provide an update. The short version is that it appears the connection between the mainboards in the easel and the TV has gone out. When I took the TV off the wall and put it in easel mode in anticipation of a service call, I plugged the unit into power and the screen worked briefly but as I nudged the TV, the image went in and out before quitting all together.

The longer version is that I wasn't able to reach Sony support from their scheduled open time of 10AM EST till 1:30pm when their greeting changed from a statement that "no representatives were available, please try again later" to the normal prompts. They had me go through the same steps as the chat representative earlier in the day to no avail. I then tried to call Authorized Service providers in my home state (Ohio) and the only company listed in Parma Ohio had a message that they no longer service Televisions. I tried the next closest (Pinnacle in Hebron, Kentucky) and they told me since I was out of warranty, they wouldn't touch my TV. I tried a third listing closest to me (Indianapolis) and that company doesn't even exist any longer and some discount chain in Rhode Island answers the phone. I spent an 1 hour and 15 minutes back on the phone with Sony support after suggestions that I call Best Buy or just keep calling till I found someone who would service to get connected to a supervisor. I explained the situation, my frustration that I cannot receive basic troubleshooting on a flagship Sony product that is less than 2 years old and that while I fully expect to pay for any potential repair since I am out of warranty, that I have a reasonable expectation for better support than this. I was told that I was going to receive an email to plead my case, which I have sent off and hope to hear something in the coming days.

Has anyone had luck getting anyone to service their Sony OLED outside of the factory warranty? This is the first Sony I have had with a major failure like this. I have an old 52" Sony that was replaced just about a year and a half ago since it was known to have a bad batch of screens. I was blown away that Sony would support an 7 year old TV like that, which is why I'm blown away to be having so many issues getting support on this set.

I'm not sure if it's related but I've also had trouble with my Apple TV showing no signal. I've unplugged, rebooted, unplugged HDMI cables from the ATV to no avail. It seems the only fix is to reboot the TV. It seems to happen whenever the Apple TV has been off for an extended period of time.

Mine did something like this a while back. I had sound but no pic. It would show the info like the Chan and 1080p and all that stuff. I had to pull the plug and then it has been fine since. I had turned off one of my OPPO's and the other powered up at the same time and the AVR switched inputs. I think it had something to do with the OPPO's switching over at the same time.

No AVR's involved. I'v removed every input. It's pretty clearly an issue with the connection going through the hinge of the easel.

Did you purchase with a credit card, and if so does it offer extended warranty? Many will extend the warranty for purchases such as this for 1 year.

I'm not experiencing ARC problems with this update, but I am experiencing problems playing any 4K video format files -- for whatever reason, they all buffer and pause unacceptably (over wi-fi) which worked fine with the previous updates (especially once I de-bloated and lowered the number of available concurrent background threads in the Admin menu).

Also, I can't seem to get "Cast to..." from my Windows 10 desktop to play on the TV anymore (it worked perfectly on the last version of the OS and continues to work from my PC to other devices).

Can anyone else give these a try?

My next test will be to try them over ethernet

Extended Warranty

How do I get an extended warranty for my XBR-65A1E?
I have the 1 year warranty from Sony. I have had the A1E it for 9 months.

I contacted Sony and they "don't have extended warranties available at this time for that device". They said to contact the store I bought it from, which is Best Buy.

I chatted with Best Buy and they wouldn't give me any information at all. They said I have to, physically, go back to the store where I bought it and talk to them. I was told they "might" be able to do something.
I don't want Best Buy Tech Support. I'd be paying for so many things I do not want or would ever use. I just want a warranty extension, not technical support.

Anyone know why can't I get it through Sony?

Because you’ve used the set for 9 months. Extended warranties are product-specific insurance. If you let people opt into any insurance product late you have to find a way to deal with selection issues (usually by charging waaaaay more). Compare it with healthcare. If you let anyone sign up as soon as they get sick, rather than during open windows, only sick people sign up and costs are enormous vs. premiums.

tl;dr - Sony thinks your set has a problem and you’re trying to screw them by buying insurance after you have failure symptoms. Even if you don’t, they’ve got a legitimate concern.

I guess Sony is different.
I have gotten extend warranties on other electronic as long as it was still in the original warranty period. I clearly understand that if the original warranty had already expired that I could not buy an extended warranty, but that's not the case. It's still under warranty for 3 more months.

I could be wrong, but I was sure the salesman told me, since I didn't buy extended warranty at the time of sale, that I could get an extended warranty later as long as long as it was still under the original warranty.
No use beating a dead horse. Guess I just misunderstood this.

Thanks

Well ARC is working again. So is the Cable box control. Had to disable the Android keyboard to activate the GBoard keyboard, otherwise the TV remote
was unable to provide the Enter key for the Set Top box setup wizard.

All good now

BestBuy Extended Warranties are a decent value. I purchased a Westinghouse 42"LCD TV from them back in 2006. After a couple of years the backlight started acting up. I called BestBuy and they sent a tech out to fix it. He inspected it and said that he'd have to order the panel. Unfortunately/fortunately, they couldn't get one. BestBuy gives you the full price value for the TV you bought. I went in, took the claim code I was given and the defective TV, then picked out the new one. I got a 52" Samsung LCD TV (the port wine bordered series) for about 700.00.

It was a great value for me, but I bought the warranty on the Samsung for 150.00 and never used it. I still have that TV.

When I bought my 55” Samsung in 2015, they would regularly send me offers in the mail to extend my warranty throughout the first year I owned it. I think the warranty was through Samsung directly, so their repair cost was likely minimal. The price of coverage was rather high and I knew the value of the TV was shrinking, so I never bothered. TV is still working fine in my bedroom after being replaced by my A1E 65”.

If anyone could advise. My ps3 took a hit so.. Getting an xbox one x soon (was debating this or ps4 pro but want 4k). Hoping to find out the correct settings for when I get it in advance. So anyone using the xbox one x with their A1e would really appreciate it.Will be connecting via Marantz sr7012. I don't play online and NFL Madden is pretty much it.thx

Well I run an Xbox One X through an SR6012 to an A1E. Works fine. Have to make sure to use proper 18Gbps cables (I accidentally used a different older HDMI cable from the Xbox to the SR6012 for a while and often would loose the picture for a few seconds, which went away with a proper certified hdmi cable). Also have to make sure enhanced mode is enabled on both the A1E and the SR, and then the XBox will happily detect all the HDR, 4k, DV, etc capabilities of the setup.

I don't use game mode on the A1E because for what I do, I don't care about latency that much, and it is simpler to just run everything from the SR7012 in the same mode, so cinema pro it is for me.
