Agreed. What makes it even worse, is that you are exposed to a lot of uniform/dark backgrounds right after you turn on your TV for the first time, and go through the setup menus for the TV itself and all the apps. It's extremely noticeable during that time (in my case it was so bad, I actually thought the background had gradient to it, because there was no way banding could be that bad). But sure enough after a week of watching the TV the banding got much more uniform, to the point where I could no longer notice it during normal viewing. I posted pics in the Banding thread, but unfortunately they were taken from different angles, and different times of day, so it was not a valid comparison. When I get my replacement A1E, I'll make sure to take the shots right after I turn the TV on and afterwards to demonstrate the difference.

Hey, thanks for the suggestions. I went through the white screen video and couldn't notice any yellow tinting (at least on my eyes). Then, I went through the 5%, 10% and 20% banding videos (couldn't find 15% for some reason). On 5%, the banding was noticeable, on 10% it was less noticeable and on 20% it wasn't there. Considering, I have put only couple hours in (in the 2 digit mark), I'll re-run it after 100 hours or so and check again.

Also, I tried using Al's settings for calibration and everything went fine except for one weird issue. On Netflix, I can NEVER change the CineMotion to OFF. It always stays High no matter what I change it to (low, medium, off etc.) Is this a bug?

Damages can be the cost of your TV, plus any additional items you may have purchased to work with DV. Items such as movies BD players etc.... if it goes class action don’t expect much, but if you go at it alone you’ll come out better.

It's about "truth in advertising":

From the FTC website:

Truth In Advertising
When consumers see or hear an advertisement, whether it’s on the Internet, radio or television, or anywhere else, federal law says that ad must be truthful, not misleading, and, when appropriate, backed by scientific evidence. The Federal Trade Commission enforces these truth-in-advertising laws, and it applies the same standards no matter where an ad appears – in newspapers and magazines, online, in the mail, or on billboards or buses. The FTC looks especially closely at advertising claims that can affect consumers’ health or their pocketbooks – claims about food, over-the-counter drugs, dietary supplements, alcohol, and tobacco and on conduct related to high-tech products and the Internet. The FTC also monitors and writes reports about ad industry practices regarding the marketing of alcohol and tobacco.

When the FTC finds a case of fraud perpetrated on consumers, the agency files actions in federal district court for immediate and permanent orders to stop scams; prevent fraudsters from perpetrating scams in the future; freeze their assets; and get compensation for victims.

Although I am not a lawyer, it does not seem to be much of a stretch to imagine that if a manufacturer promises something that is a significant factor in a purchasing decision and that promise is unfulfilled by the manufacturer, compensation might well include the ability to return the purchase for a full refund.

95% of a1e owners wont notice any banding, unless they are running slides looking for it. People really need to calm down about this. Its definitely an issue with OLED. Just dont buy one if you are worried about what slides look like.

How did you like it when it was working? When I had Vue for the 5 day trial period a few months ago I hated it on the Fire TV Stick but it was much better using a PS4. Guess that's what I'll have to use again. If Vue had A&E/History I'd be set and would probably switch permanently.
The picture quality is streets ahead of Comcast, which is what I was coming from, so no complaints there. Plus it streams in 60Hz, which helps if you watch sports or other fast-moving material.

On the downside I find navigating in the app sluggish, which is probably to do with the general slowness of the Mediatek chip in the A1E (and I also notice more lag using my Harmony Ultimate controlling the A1E via IP control).

I have been pondering going to a separate streaming device for my smart tv needs. Apple TV 4K seems interesting, but seems to have weird 'HDR-always-on' issues. Roku Ultra just seems dated (UI-wise) and if I go with the Shield, I fear I will still resent the Android OS bloatware if that is a thing as on the A1E. Still reading reviews on those...

Got a tip from a kind forum user via PM on how to restore PS Vue login on the TV, so will give that a try tonight. He shall be praised to the heavens by me if it works! EDIT: "400MHz MAN" is the hero of the day... "Uninstalling updates" on Android System WebView allowed me to log back into PS Vue.

People can be as angry as they want to be about this issue and rightly so at this price point. If it doesn't bother someone then cool beans. I hold no grudge against anybody who is delighting in their awesome display. Like BI I guess it's only a problem to the person who has it.

There are a number of examples of banding images that are not slides.

Now let me crawl back into my damp slimy cave.

So what's the consensus on this TV? Sony agreed to a warranty return of our XBR75X850E if we upgrade our set, asked for two options so I'm thinking the 75X900E and the A1E 65" OLED.

I'd go with picture quality over screen size, and it's hard to beat A1E. You can always move the couch closer.

Backlight bleed in all four corners. TV/Movies, I think 65 is big enough for a TV but what about picture and motion qualities compared to the LCD model?

Hey Guys,

I need some advice currently I have an 65 A1E, I have all four HDMI inputs being used, below is my current setup:

HDMI 1: Apple TV 3rd Gen

HDMI 2: Nvidia Shield Pro

HDMI 3: Sony x800 4K Blu-Ray Player

HDMI 4: PS4 (1st Gen)

I purchased a PS4 pro and am receiving it today. My question is should I just plug in the PS4 pro into HDMI 4 replacing my current PS4 or should I swap my 4K blu ray player and plugin the PS4 pro into HDMI 3? The reason I ask this question is because I’m not sure if it really would make a difference having my 4K blu ray player in the enhanced HDMI 3 port vs the PS4 pro for gaming in HDMI 3? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank You

You have to sit pretty far away for a 65" to be considered small from a viewer's perspective. Go for the 65" A1 OLED, it's as good as its gets right now.

If your Blu ray player can output 30hz/24hz with HDR then no real issue. I don't think that speed impacts too many movies but games sure could use 60hz. I'm in a similar boat because my soundbar does not output HDR so I plug everything into the TV and do ARC for sound. Not ideal, but it is working well enough that I don't feel I am missing anything at the moment. I have 1. nothing, 2. [email protected] 3. ARC/[email protected] NoHDR - Cablebox 4. AppleTV4k @30Hz HDR
And of course I use the built in Apps for streaming quite a bit.

Agreed that it's not small, but the room my tv is in is 23' x 40' so you can get fairly far away, and 77" would not have been too large except for my wife. I find that around the 17' mark you start to think you should have gone for larger.
