Nice!!!

Al Leong 05-11-2017 09:14 AM

The A1E has it's own AVS Centurion Lounge.. rightfully so..

So first question. Since we got the Android 7 update this week, does it include Dolby Vision support also? Reason I ask is I was reading up on Android 7 and from what I have read it supports Dolby Vision out the box.

Cleveland Plasma 05-11-2017 09:24 AM

Glad we own a few ;) Was going to ship one to Chad B so he could review, he got busy again :( It will be soon......

markrubin 05-11-2017 09:38 AM

reminder: posters here need to edit their sig to add their A1E model number to continue to post here: if it is not in your sig, your post will be removed

thanks :)

The update only provided HLG, which is fantastic but I could only find 2 demo videos in HLG.

When DV is added, the Sony changelog will reflect.

I saw a video somewhere that was comparing the Sony dynamic HDR with the LG DV and as I mentioned, I feel Sony meets DV with their dynamic HDR.. if I find the video I'll post it here.

@13:31 X1E XDR-High comparison to Dolby Vision:

In my opinion, the A1 doesn't need DV, XDR-High delivers a better performance to me.

IMHO not yet, or at least Sony made no mention of it anywhere (which would be weird from a marketing perspective) and I find no new configuration options or changes to wording on various settings eluding to DV being there.

Hey, does HDR work on the Youtube app on this TV? Doesn't look like it. I've played a bunch of different HDR (supposedly) videos and I don't see the HDR badge under picture settings.

I can't wait! I wonder if they've put out an ETA.

Hope he can get his hands on that one before he does mine on June 4th as then he will have a little experience with one anyway.

Man....I've tried 2 different usb with the firmware at the root and I cant get my set to recognize the new update...Sony's taking a while with the roll out for my set...Would like to do it manually..

The Voice on Directv has some good black levels and near blacks for a upscale tv show that the X1 extreme shows it power.

I had to format my USB stick to exFAT for it to see it.

Just spent 2 days messing with my A1-E, new Yamaha3060, and Oppo-203. I have a headache and it all came down to buying these monoprice hdmi cables.

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...9SIA8SV3S80856

These are supposedly certified and read many ppl here that recommended them. Also this Sony A1 menu system is not great.

However the tabletop stand I bought worked well! Pics soon

Al's HDR settings: Thanks Al. You said HDR content only. Do you have different settings when watching SD cable? I like "Standard" for cable content.

Oh yes, I use an elaborate Custom setting for all my SDR content.. I will post them a bit later.

Fat32 here. Only stick that would work was a sandisk. Tried three other brands and no go.

Once you unzip the file open the folder and only put the file on the disc. Not the file folder.

It worked for me. I unzipped the file and put the resulting file on the USB stick. I did have to insert it a second time into the USB slot before the Sony recognized the update file. Took about 15 minute or so.

Use Blue Jean cables.

Those Monoprice cables wouldn't place nice with my Denon 6300.

I switched to AmazonBasics cables and all is well.

Wow, this HDMI 4K HDR HDCP 2.2 thing really does involve a bunch of secret handshakes and mystical connotations to get full capability out of the cables and connections...

I'm exactly the opposite with my Denon X4300H: Amazon Basics high-speed dah-dah-dah cables were a bit problematic, the thicker and harder-to-manage Monoprice ones were my solution after reading threads here -- but only after properly seating the cables into each device. Now, every time I move my components (at least 4 new configurations since my A1E went in 2 weeks ago, while I sort out everything and get my remotes to consistently operate from primary seating locations), I test each component in turn for max resolution on the A1E just in case I squashed a cable or messed up one of their connections when I push the components back into place on their shelf. Talk about "fiddly" HDMI (to use my long-gone grandmothers' favorite word)! ;) I'm not looking forward to 8K or whatever the next standard becomes unless there is a much more reliable, and reasonable cost, set of cabling and connections!!! Hopefully for me, my A1E serves me for well more than the next 5 years and other pioneers get to go through all those trials and tribulations for some of us!

There's barley enough upscaled 4K content from 2K masters.. and even less of a handful of films filmed in 4K natively.

8K would have to be only relevant to a screen size 4X that of an IMAX..

The hardware hustle stops with me with 4K
