I would assume this is just viewing angle's o the tv playing a part affecting the how the colors appear.
Even thou OLED's generally have a excellent viewing angles it still apperant.
I have a Sony AF8 and have a little bit of red tint on the left side of my screen and if i move up close to the tv and look a little bit "over the top and down" on this area, it isnt visible, but I do see a shift in colors of the rest of the screen as well which is expected.

Yes, normal. I have slight yellowing left of center on my C9. It looks exactly like the tinting in HDTVtest's GZ950 review. I also have an A1E that has more obvious yellow in the same area, but also flanked with slight magenta tinting.

Thanks for the examples. Does your C9 show a shift in tint on white screens as you move seat positions as well then?

Yes, I also have hue shift to the panel from different angles.

I think your odds are the same. I always prefer new over a brand new piece of equipment (if possible) opened up for service.

I had LG replace my C7 panel a while back and it was junk. The only plus is that the swap is quick.

The television screen is the retina of the mind's eye.

Well i have now watched bladerunner 2049 on my new panel. This was the movie that made me hate my LG due to banding. I have good and bad news.

Good news is that banding is much much better on my new panel. Bad news is that i still have minimal visible banding. I think i can see banding better than most. However, i’m happy with the banding on my sony. It is much less frequent (i only saw it twice and this movie has a lot of dark grey and smoke scenes). Also, the type of banding is less eye catching. On my LG the banding was always 2 distinct bands in the center of the screen. This made my eye go straight there and i would focus on it. When i see banding on my sony it looks like i’m watching something with poor compression (even tho i’m watching a UHD). It’s fairly consistently inconsistent uniformity across the entire screen. Also many scenes i had unbearable banding on my LG showed 0 banding on the Sony . I think i’ll be able to not really focus on it. So far i’m only noticing it because i’m being critical with a new panel.

My new 55C9 is hanging on the wall and out of the box I don't notice any banding / DSE that I can see. Didn't pull up any slides and have no intentions to look for imperfections. Just happy to report there are no jailbars of any kind that I could see in SDR/HDR content. No vignetting either.
There is however some yellow tint in full white background. I only noticed it when I pulled up American Psycho. That early credits scene seems to be a good test. Not sure if there is any point in trying a different panel. Also no magenta tint at the least.
Can anyone recommend some content to look out for uniformity issues?
I still mostly watch blu-rays/UHD and tried I couple scenes that were problematic on my E6.

PS. Serial number starts with 907. Does that mean July build date?

Is vertical banding showing up in blue sky images normal? Also looking at some of these pictures from the posters here, they seem to have horizontal banding and I have them as well. Is horizontal banding normal? I currently have 100 hours on my set. I am hoping that in another hundred hours it could possibly improve.

I don’t see any banding in bright sky images. A number of people here have posted panels with horizontal banding as well.

If you can see it in bright images when panning, almost like dse, then you’ve got some really bright bands or really sharp differences on your 5% between dark and lighter bands. In any case, I would be returning it if I see them in regular brighter content.

I also see thin horizontal line on bright blue pattern e.g sky in some games.
When I run rgb test i see these lines on yellow, gray and green background.
Question is this is normal or shoud I return tv?

That would be a below average panel if you see it in those situations. My LG showed banding in pale yellow/green backgrounds and that really annoyed me. My sony only has it during dark grey and it’s amazing to only have it there.

Hi these are the 5% greyscale pic of my lg c9 65 inch one in tecni colour expert and another one in standard picture mode Is this a keeper or should I return it? there is a dark banding visible on bottom left corner on 5% which is not that visible in normal viewing but after seeing the test pattern I can find it on some dark scenes and now I feel that I should return it but i am afraid what if the next one might be worse and have more visible banding in the middle or somewhere so what should I do keep this one has it has banding in the corner which doesn't impact the viewing that much or go for the replacement and try my luck?

Hi

I would like to know your opinion on the uniformity of my set. It's a LG OLED 55B8.

After I noted some vertical band in some challeging scenes I conducted a 5% grey scale test. The first image is the test with the settings in the first post. The other is the test with my usual settings. I only noted the left side blob in the test. I didn't noticed when watching content.

The vertical band near the center is the most agressive and the one I noted when watching content. What do you think? Could I do worse or should I try to take my chances on the painel lottery, if LG accepts this as defect? Thank you very much for your answers.

I have the TV for 2 months now, so I would say upwards of 150hours. I don t know how to access the service menu to know the exact hours on the tv. If you could explain me how do I check the number of hours I'd greatly appreciate it.

This is my A8G at 150 hours. How does it look?

Also, I noticed a horizontal band (please see 2nd picture) in the sky of a movie was watching. Am I nitpicking too much based on the picture or should I just enjoy what I have now?

I suppose it's vertical banding. It's the most noticible band when watching content with darker scenes. The other ones, namely the clearer one near the right side of the screen, I actually don't notice as much.

so i just got my C9 this past Friday, it has 20 hours on it all done in 4 hour increments, so i assume it's done 5 auto compensation cycles. so far i have to say i'm happy with it, banding is very minimal and hardly noticeable. i watched that scene from Marco Polo and I had to look really hard to notice it that if I blink I would probably not even notice it. that same scene on my C7 looks really bad. i have a question about the auto comp cycle. when you hear the click on the TV does this mean it's finished or that it just started?

Got my 65C8 last night.

White uniformity isn’t the greatest, but could be worse I suppose.

I am not sure I am using the right 5% slide, I used this you tube video. Kind of a weird bar at the bottom, I will have to find the one everyone here is using and test again tonight

Edit: I will grab the slides from the first post and try them tonight.

When you put the TV into standby:
  • If it clicks immediately => it didn't do an auto-compensation cycle, and it has powered off the panel.
  • If it clicks after a few minutes => it did do an auto-compensation cycle, has just finished, and powered off the panel.

OLED Screen Uniformity Discussion-Banding and Vignetting

So I followed the directions in the main post. Why do my 5% slides look so different than everyone’s? I played it through my PC, with the advised settings and confirmed via a test pattern that my brightness level is correct. If I set my HDMI black level to high it looks more like every one else’s but that isn’t the correct setting. I also put on a USN stick and it also looks the same.

The second pic is with HDMI black on high just for reference.

That 2nd picture looks more like what people post. Go on YouTube and play 5% video directly on tv app. Set to isf dark default change oled light to 35.

White informity on my new 55C9.
I feel like I can see a yellow tint in some content but maybe it's just some DSE that I'm seeing? Pretty much only on light blue background..
I have zero uniformity issues on black/grey content so only this that is the issue. A keeper?

So I followed the directions in the main post. Why do my 5% slides look so different than everyone’s?
Different cameras/phones produce very different looking pictures when using automatic settings. For example when I use a galaxy S5 the picture turns out very dark and with a galaxy S7 too bright. People should really be using custom exposure/ISO camera settings and try to get it to look close to what your eyes are seeing.

Then there is also panel variance so your 5% might be too dark at default settings (on my panel it is), but this impossible to evaluate by looking at pictures.

I assume most people just use the automatic mode on their phone camera which makes these picture comparisons somewhat meaningless.

I have zero uniformity issues on black/grey content so only this that is the issue. A keeper?
If your 5% is good, looks about as good as it gets.
