I've got 65c7 from a week.
I'm really surprised to have read in all these months of the broken and too dim hdr game modo
My son is playing COD WW2 with ps4pro and i found the image too much brighter in my opinion. I have had to setup the brightness, white and black in the menu games in order to get a better image
Otherwise what i'm watching is awesome.
this tv is really really good !!!

as soon as possible i'll go to calibrate it with calman and i1display pro and i'm sure it'll be more awesome

Is there a difference between game mode from the HDMI name settings menu and “game” under the quick display settings?

any other modes outside game mode will get you around 60ms of input lag which is high for FPS.

For LG it's not broken and they will probably never fix it for the 2017 models. That why it's been months and still like that.

I've seen there is an update being rolled out by LG in Korea and the US. Has anyone seen what this update includes?

I think it is 04.70.30. It is available in the US by downloading the file from their website. Not sure if it can be downloaded by selecting the 'check for updates' option on the TV yet. I haven't seen any updates pushed to us in the UK yet though.

4.30.95 and then go to your router and block these address:

snu.lge.com
su.lge.com
lge.com

You won't be getting the nags to update after that.

In game HDR brightness settings have to be set per game. But since getting the X I'm surprised how easy it has been. Not touched my TV settings once. Every game I've played offers enough options to tweak overall brightness and HDR brightness (or white and black points).

I'm sure that DC isn't totally ideal and I'm sure for people who professionally calibrate their sets it throws things off. But I honestly think its fine. I haven't noticed annoying brightness fluctuations I'd expect to using DC. The picture for me so far across 6 different HDR games has been great.
This is pretty close to my experience. I only have a PS4 Pro for now, along with a B6. After dialing in settings for HDR Game Mode, it looks pretty much identical to HDR Standard. And if a game ships with the option to configure the HDR settings, which imo they all should ship with this option, the HDR Game Mode dim issue is negated. I'm currently on 04.31.20.

How do you tweak HDR brightness in games? Is that with the slider as I don't tend to notice any difference when changing it?

Was not sure if there was a 4.31.XX, I think thats the last good version before they crippled it.

Can someone post a copy of that firmware, I think if you're using the TV for games its better to stay away from the 5.XX.XX firmwares.

I'm currently on 4.30.95 and there is a bug on the USB3 port where it tells you the file format(exFAT, NTFS) is not supported.

I just got a B7A this week in the USA and it is on version 03.60.16...Does this already have the ?dim? game mode for 2017 models? If it does, I will go ahead and update to get technicolor, etc.

I stopped updating my 2016 E6 so it hasn?t been impacted.

I read somewhere that firmware 04.70.30 includes the fix for the dim HDR game mode. However it’s not yet available over the air update. Can someone confirm?

I hope this is true. I'm still on 03.60.09 but the difference between HDR standard and HDR game mode is very noticible. Anyone know if previous firmware had similiar brightness in HDR standard and HDR game mode?

I just installed it today and with the Xbox One X (B7P) I see no difference unfortunately. Game mode is still less bright than standard mode.

are you just turning on a game in HDR and switching between HDR modes to check? i can't get a definitive answer when the dimming occurred, so i haven't updated from my stock firmware of 03.60.16 yet...but i also need to plug in a console and check too.

Found some firmware archives on the Korean website for LG (including a new firmware for the G6 labeled 05.30.15)

Anybody know if it's safe to use these firmwares on a NA set?

So update to 04.70.30 or not? Still conflicting responses about if dim hdr game mode was before or after 03.60.xx?

New B7 owner here looking for some clarification on "PC mode": Just so I'm understanding this correctly, in order to enable 4:4:4 Chroma subsampling I need to edit the label on the HDMI input and rename it to "PC"? I almost fell out of my chair when I read that on rtings... Is that really correct - renaming an input label enables that feature? I've seen some crazy hidden settings in my life, but wow - that takes the cake.

I have 3 devices hooked up to my TV: PS4, Xbox one s, and a gaming PC. Given what rtings is claiming about the low input lag when in PC mode, is there any reason I shouldn't just enable that across the board for all my devices? (is there any downside to having that enabled when using my PS4 or Xbox?) I'm hoping I can because all devices go through my AVR, and therefore all end up in HDMI1 of the TV.

It’s actually not renaming it that changes the behaviour - instead you have to change the input icon to PC in the same menu. You can name it whatever you want.

It is a really obtuse setting I agree. Just be aware that this setting should not be used for HDR as it introduces gradient banding. So if you really want the best settings overall you’ll have to keep changing the input icon depending on HDR vs SDR, until LG fixes PC HDR (which I doubt will happen). I have an AVR with two HDMI outputs so I’m able to switch easily without changing the input icon

I installed 5.30.20 on my E6, IIRC there are specific updates for the G6 since it uses a different chip(YouTube HDR).

Here is the link if you want try it:

Ahh, ok - that's a little better then, thanks.

Hmm, so if I'm only using my gaming PC for playing games (in other words, I'm not using the TV as a monitor to do web browsing, productivity, etc), then it sounds like I probably don't want PC mode enabled? Some of those games will be HDR enabled and some won't, but either way I shouldn't use PC mode..? As for gaming consoles like the xbox and PS4, it sounds like I would want to use "game mode"? (though game mode is so dim I'm not sure I can tolerate it)

Thanks for any additional help. I knew HDR was a bit of a mess but I still underestimated it.

It’s up to you. PC mode is ideal for SDR gaming because it opens up the isf dark picture mode which does not lock colour gamut to wide, and has nice out of the box settings. Game mode using non PC input locks colour gamut to wide, which is supposedly less accurate and not to everyone’s taste.

For HDR games, at this point you should definitely switch off PC mode due to the banding issues.

Now the choice is yours whether you want to fiddle with this setting every time you switch between HDR and SDR or live with non pc input for both and be left with wide colour gamut in SDR. Or do what I do which is to use an AVR with two HDMI outputs, one wired to a PC input and one not, and use a harmony remote to switch inputs based on content I’m about to play.

Or you can wait until LG fixes pc hdr mode (doubtful this will happen until hdr on pc becomes more relevant, if ever)

Hi All,

Just bought the LG B7 primarily for Xbox One X. I am on the latest firmware 04.70.07 and I still find it too dim in Game Mode. Has anyone tried downgrading the firmware on the 2017 models ?

I did try PC mode as well but HDR colors are just off as reported by users on this thread. I am quite frustrated and don't know how to proceed, would appreciate any assistance!

Since it seems like there is not a fix at the moment, is there a way to disable the update reminder that pops up every time you turn on the TV?
