I saw both the A1E and E7 match that BVM-300 at the shootout... Dolby Vision is great and all but when HDR10 is done excellent, the way both the A1E and Technicolor tuned LG 7 does.. it's not much more Dolby Vision brings to the table in my opinion..

The next bump will be 8K... as for 4K, 2017 was the peak year.
I think you are correct. Those who purchased last year did well. This years biggest prize will be the ability to purchase OLED in late 2018 at a very affordable price. On the LCD side you'll probably be able to get the Z9D for 2-2.5K in Nov-Dec. I do wonder if Sony will roll out something new (and groundbreaking) this summer like they did in 2016.

Yep. I can't imagine Sony is selling that many 77" A1Es, so trying to sell both A1E and A8F in 77" at the same time would probably be pointless. Having the much more common sizes in two different designs makes more sense. Hopefully the price won't be any higher on the A8F than the A1E since there is nothing that would make it worth more in any way.

Not sure the A8F stand design would work well for a 77" either. It might have to start getting pretty deep compared to the A1E stand design which should be fine for the 77". If you wall mount it I am not even sure you could see if it is an A1E or an A8F.

So pretty much new stand? Good thing I’m not missing much with this compared to my A1. Even though I wall mount mine, the elegant stand looks great on current A1E. Looks cheaper with this A8.

Based on what seems to have been announced so far: A traditional stand that makes the TV vertical instead of slightly tilted.

Nothing else appears at all different.

No tilt! but it looks kind of bulky on the back , The bezel looks lighter? ,The back doesn't look like is glass ,Still no bad.

It will probably sell for less than the previous gen. At least they have now two Oled options.

A1E is definitely prettier design by far

trying my luck with sony a1e after what feels like being in jail when I look at 2 lg c7's I've had. Jailbars you can see in movies and games isn't acceptable for this kind of money. LG calls it "normal" maybe sony won't with same panel.

Looking at the profile picture, especially the back of the A8F, it looks like the A1E is the more expensive looking hardware, the A8F looks like a less costly build. for instance the A1E back panel is made of glass.. the A8F looks to have a plastic back.. the A8F looks lighter, the A1E, for those that own one knows its really heavy in weight.

On the Sony site, the A1E is listed first, A8F second, and Z9D third as flagship displays...

The A1E is still Sony's top TV.. I said some time ago I thought Sony would keep the A1E around a few generations, I just couldn't see how another TV can be made by Sony to outdo it.

The A8F may be less in price.. looks like the "E" model to the "G" model in the LG world.

Based on the video posted over on avforums the A1 remains the flagship OLED and the A8F sits below it.

The back is always the dirty little secret they try to hide in all the marketing material. They'll take off angle side picture so it looks like the TV is paper thin until someone has the good grace to show us what we're really looking at.

So Panasonic improves their 2018 OLEDs with more nits (900); a better processor; DCI-P3 colour gamut coverage 99%; better ABL, etc...

And Sony just gives us a different stand?!

Maybe Sony decided it couldn't sell enough of the 77" OLED to justify buying the panels at a high price from LG.

Or maybe LG decided to stop selling its 77" panel to the competition so they'd have more stock to bring the larger size to a more entry level model (C8) at a cheaper price.

You have no idea how many sales that tilt/easily breakable stand has cost Sony. I've got a few manager friends who work in big box and thats was the #1 complaint about the Sony. So much so that There is a disclaimer on the display that says if you break the stand/tip over the TV, it's not warrantied. It was a bigger issue that you think. I have the Sony and that stand is a pile of crap. Who ever designed it needs to be fired.

Agree ,not only you but some people would want a higher profile to fit a sound bar. But this TV already have a good sound. It would be good if it let you add a sub woofer and surround speakers.

Let's just agree to disagree on this.... mkay? I am sure it was a huge big issue for people that could not afford an A1E in the first place. How is the stand easily breakable? This is the first time I am hearing of this. People doing stupid things is not a fault with the product, I am sure any LG or Samsung with a normal stand is just as easily topable.

people still use tv stands? why do they even include speakers? I don't think I've used a tv stand or tv speakers for at least a decade... come to think of it .. haven't used a tuner either.

does sony have an OLED "monitor?"

Yes, because I don't want to look up at my tv when I am sitting in my low profile sofa and hanging it on a wall would also put it at the wrong angle to my seating space. Another benefit having it low was that I could even sit on a giant beanbag on the floor up close while gaming.
Does sony have an OLED monitor? Yes, it's called the A1E. If you don't want to use the built in speakers you don't have to and you can't even see them in fact.

not sure if it was posted but if not here you go. the tv is an a1e with a new stand thats it. its the same tv. like i said in the other group. i find it extremely hard to believe they would introduce a new processor and stick it in zero tvs as well as do almost nothing to all there new tvs. there was in introduction ofa 930f either. its kinda odd that all the tvs that used the X1Extrme haven't been updated. my gut says there we 3 new series unveiled later this year that will all use the x1 ultimate chipset. a 930/940 series, new oled and a z9 replacement. what the hold for showing now of it at ces? possible they are waiting on hdmi 2.1 to finalized. or they just have there heads up there ass and wanna unveil something at there sony show this summer. so they can go OH TEE HEE gotcha check this out like they have done with all there high end releases

No tilt! but it looks kind of bulky on the back , The bezel looks lighter? ,The back doesn't look like is glass ,Still no bad.

It will probably sell for less than the previous gen. At least they have now two Oled options.
Yes, the back of the A8F is awful, and most of that will be there because of the transducers for the through screen sound...which I don't require. Rules out Sony, LG have done nothing new, and Panny, well nothing really changed there either. 2018 is a dead duck, so disappointing. Money stays in pocket for another year, or if the LG 7 series is seriously cheap then maybe one of those as a stop gap.
