There is even a 4.70.95 on the UK website, which fixes stuff with the bbc iplayer app. Very specific.

I flashed it, even if I live in France, over my .85 , it's all good (I did it because I'm using the bbc app). I lost IPV6 in the options, but it's all right...

- I'm french. Sorry if you don't understand what i say -

I purchased a 55 inch B7A in June, and it was manufactured in May, 2018 and came with 04.70.50 firmware.

I guess there are many different versions.

Looking at the two unzipped files, 4.70.90 from Korea and 4.71.0, it looks like the US version is about a month newer and contains the IPv6 disablement, but is otherwise the same. Since I'm not having any IPv6 issues, and IPv6 is nearly 3x as fast on my connection, I'm sticking with 4.70.90. Granted IPv6 isn't used by many sites other than YouTube, but why fix what ain't broke. If I was still on the previous US release and wanted to stick with US releases, I'd go to 4.71.0 right away, though, as the other improvements are noticeable.

Thanks for the feedback. Why would IPv6 need to be disabled in the first place and what does 3X the speed on your connection mean?

If I recall, I remember saying no to an update a few firmwares back. It would ask me everytime I turned on the TV if I wanted to update. It got old after a while.

Is the Dolby Version the same between 4.70.90 and 4.71.0?
Any point in updating my B7A to 4.71.0?

My B7 update alert for US 4.71 just popped up. My previous version was the Korean 4.70.90 version.

This phased roll out of automatic updates is still happening, if you don't want to do the USB update. I might pick up some Dolby Vision disc rentals over the weekend to test.

It says that it's disabled due to some internet service provider (i.e. Comcast, Sprint, etc.) having issues. For me, IPv6 websites are much faster, most likely because they are on newer parts of the Internet and use more efficient methods of transmitting data.

Also, that's good to know about the nag message. So far nothing on my TV, but I might just concede if it gets too annoying.

Returned home yesterday, and this morning when I turned the TV on,it asked if I wanted to update to the latest version 4.71.00,which I did. So far so good,no issues that I’m aware of,and when I tested the wireless speed via the built in Netflix app,it showed a speed of 97.45 MB. My provider is Fios, and I have a 100mb up/down plan.

Might be placebo, but I think the colors look richer on 4.71.0. Using the built in Netflix app. I think I’m noticing better colors. Whatever the case, I’m happy. Looks great.

I noticed a new picture setting called HDR EFFECT. Pretty sure this wasn’t a picture setting before (I had the latest Korean firmware previously). Anyone else see this?

Also noticed that there is a PREFERRED COLOR setting under “advanced controls” in the HDR Effect setting. Gives you control over skin color, grass color and sky color.

I noticed that on the 2017 C7 firmware 04.71.00, LG still has not fully fixed the audio sync issue which occur when using a soundabar and dolby digital sound. This issue seems to affect external soundbars only and not the built in speakers. It is better than the original firmware that came with the TV though.

They way I determine if the audio is out of sync is I set the audio output to the mode that outputs both to the internal speaker and the soundbar through optical out simultaneously. (Sound output is set to: Internal TV Speaker + Audio Out (Optical))

On the 2017 TV, when I play cable TV, I hear a slight echo due to the internal speakers and sound bar being out of sync. I also on a 2016 LG B6 OLED with the same cable TV box, and the same simultaneous output setting, there isn't any echoing.

Has anyone noticed as well that the 2017 OLEDs have a AV sync issue that is still persisting?

Thanks

Can't speak to the pc mode, but game mode will never be "fixed". As has been said countless times, this was intentional on LG's part. It used to clip the brightest levels originally, and so with tone mapping, nothing is clipped, but the overall image is dimmer. You can make it look a bit brighter if the game has brightness and contrast sliders. Otherwise, see if you can stand the input lag from changing it from something other than game mode.

So what's the consensus? Do I upgrade to 4.71 if I have the 4.70.90 korean firmware? I keep getting the upgrade message every time I use my TV. Is the 4.71 the same as the korean with an added feature?

It's being fixed as a firmware update this month, at least for the 2016 sets. Not sure about the 2017s

If you have a 2017, this is reason to try the 4.71 update to see if it fixes the dim HDR game mode.

This game mode "fix" is only for 2016 models.

The 2017's hdr game mode isn't even that dim. The tone mapping is the same as it is in the expert cinema modes but without Active HDR engaged.

From what I've found "So far", the only difference between the .90 and the new 4.71.0 is the IP6 issues. Being I don't use IP6, and being I'm on .90, I see no reason whatsoever for me to upgrade. "If it ain't broke...... DON'T FIX IT".

I will caveat that by saying;

a) If you are on the original .36; or have existing problems; go for the upgrade
b) If eventually I discover that the 4.71.00 has some additional listed improvements that .90 doesn't have; then I'll consider upgrading.

Until then; it ain't broke. So I'm not going to fix it.

Personally, I’d upgrade to .90. We know what it is, it’s proven, with no problems. You can always go to 4.71.0 later. U just can’t ever go backwards.
