What are the dimensions of the mounting holes in relation to the screen for a 55-incher? I'm mostly interested in how high from the bottom of the screen the bottom holes are.

Thanks!

You did notice that this was a c7?

We had several very good 55" 7-series here.

Question for those who got relatively clean C8 panels, was it like that from the beginning or did it take a few comp cycles?

I just got my 65C8 and white uniformity is good, better than my 55C6 but it has two terrible bands on a 5% slide.

edit: after 2 comp cycles it got a bit better and it is also less visible in content than I expected.

I got my 65" C8 yesterday...My first OLED. Watched Dunkirk and Pacific Rim and it looks amazing! I won't be looking at a 5% due to OCD...but I didn't notice anything... but my jaw dropping.

I've always had a nice audio setup and this is the first time the video has givin me as much of a wow factor as the immersive audio. Couch All day!!!!

Bummer.

In my experience, you want to watch a few hours and run at least one comp cycle manually before judging near-black uniformity.

I have seen significant changes between 'just-out-of-the-box' and after the first manual comp cycle. Far less dramatic changes after that.

But from what I heard/seen on the OLED Uniformity Thread, the large 'jailbar' type bands rarely improve much through comp cycles...

Could you post a picture of your 5% field?

So in everyone’s honest opinion what would be the better OLED...the C8 or A8F? If they both are priced similar and the Sony’s lag is better this year and price is equal. I can only imagine the X1 processor would be superior

Personally it sounds like we’re better off going with either Sony or last years C7. For 2800$ a 55” C8 should not exhibit this issue. We are almost what 5 years into OLED now? Doesn’t look like 2020 will be any better.

From last year the A1E handled banding quite well compared to LG, hopefully LG will make some improvements though.

From experience and being obsessed with uniformity, I'm going to disagree that Sony handled it better than the LG sets. Too many examples of A1Es looking like a garbage in terms of banding floating around.

Yea I stopped following a while back ever since starting my PC build. Now I need a 65” TV for the living room and a 55” for my main adult entertainment downstairs which I want to be OLED. The 65” OLED too expensive plus I need something an 11yo won’t ruin...well let me rephrase, a 65” tv an 11yo may ruin but is not expensive to fix lol

I'll post some pictures in the uniformity thread later today or tomorrow. I want to run at least 2 comp cycles first to see if something changes.

I don't know how many times we need to say this but again, you can't hurt the set doing one manual compensation cycle when you first get it to clean up any issues from the factory. I've seen some sets come totally clean and others with all kinds of screen retention from the factory.

And usually, additional compensation cycles don't clean up the panel any further. If there is some faint banding, over time as the pixels get randomly used, the slight banding will fade but any tinting will not change.

Hope this helps.

Has anyone here compared a Sony z9d to a C8? My return period is over in like 3 days on my z9 and im really considering returning it for the c8. I love the z9, I really do, but coming from a B6 I'm spoiled on blacks. Everything else on the z9 beats the B6 but I'm intrigued by the increased brightness this year.

If you are comparing brightness, the Z9 peaks out about 1800 nits and the C8 the highest I've seen reported is around 850 Nits.

That said, the C8 is not going to be anywhere as bright as the Z9 sitting straight on.

If brightness isn't a concern then you may prefer the C8.

I couldn’t handle the light bleed on the Z9d , the contrast ratio is good not great and sdr is way better on an oled .Having said that the Z9 is a great set if you can handle some light bleed into the black bars and can deal with the limited viewing angle etc . I actually rate the 940e above the z9D having owned that one also .

From what I've read, the processor in the C8 closes the gap with last year's A1E, but that latter still has a slight edge in motion handling and upscaling. The A1F's processor is probably better still.

Yeah, I'm feeling the same way on the light bleed. It's not overly distracting, but it's certainly there. And I still own my B6, it's my living room tv now, and watching that makes it harder to watch the z9 in a dark room. I really love the z9 but it looks like the C8 may be worth checking out. My B6 isn't really bright enough, but im hoping with active hdr and slightly brighter panels, the C8 will get closer to the z9.

Hey Owners -

I'm curious about settings -- not like every setting (unless you want to share), but are you using TruMotion? Dynamic Tone Mapping? Any mode specific callouts? Any other tweaks I should be sure not to miss while I wait to get it calibrated?

Well, I actually did manage to unbox and set up the 65" alone. It was pretty easy after putting some long bolts into the vesa mounting holes so I could use that to grab and lift it.
