So speaks a non-owner. The issue doesn’t impact everyone so it’s truly a mystery. Forbes is well known for his love of Samsung, so I’m sure he jumped at the chance to make this an issue when the facts have YTBD. Does the guy do any original content? A few tweets from some owners saying its an issue with their display and he’s off saving the world. So we’ve got owners with no problem, owners with a problem and others wondering if it’s been like this from day 1. Interesting mystery.

Has he mentioned the DV problem with Sony yet? Back light issues with the Q9? There are owners of any display complaining about something at any given time. My LG is anything but scary, unless you’re referring to it’s great picture

Haven't seen it on my brand new 65C8 but then again, I'm not looking for it. I don't examine every scene, I just watch the movie and enjoy it.

Cam - Like you for those who have it, hopefully it gets resolved soon. Not an issue for me, with so many ways to set these up it could be that simple.

I just get a little put off by non-owners posting in an owners thread, it’s usually the same members doing it multiple threads seemingly trying to feel better about not taking the plunge. Do this in the Sony A8F thread and risk an infraction, but in the LG threads who cares. If you have something helpful to offer, then please post it, more than a few non-owners have been very helpful answering questions, but crap like the C8 is broken and unwatchable when you don’t own it - give me a break. Sony guys went through this earlier this year, we will see how it plays out. I have no plans to return mine.

^100% agreed. Some members who have a healthy dislike for anything oled will jump at a chance when a perceived negative comes out...case in point referencing Archer. Your also on point when it comes to Sony...nothing against them in fact I now own a 940e and while it's great in it's own right, theirs nothing special in regards to the upscaling or motion that the fanboys like to tout imo. Bottom line is that not everyone is experiencing the dimming issue, in fact a separate thread needs to be created to get back on topic, especially for those not affected.

Im not trying to be overly spicy, I absolutely agree that another thread needs to be made or just issues sent to LG. Surely they'll address it.

My issue is that if i ask "hey guys what settings do y'all use on certain inputs?" it gets drowned out by the past two weeks of Dimming phenomena posts. The fact I even have to ask when a month ago I could scroll back and find actual useful information where I'm sure others had shared their settings

Tested with punisher, felt the brightness change was much faster than before , possibly a placebo or real fix . Let's see if others feel the same

Cam, would you be so kind as to shoot me a PM also? I'm sure it would be a good place to start. This TV seems to have a lot of settings and possible options.

I posted a request like Jimi Jo Jake a ways back, and it also got lost in the discussion of other things -- and so then I was waiting to see what people would say in response to his post.

C8 Documentation?

I've got a C8 on the way and am trying to learn as much as I can before it arrives. This is my first OLED and my first smart tv so I've got a lot to learn!

I've downloaded the manual from the LG website, a 17 MB PDF, and find it quite lacking. Where am I supposed to learn about the various video modes and settings, WebOS, etc? Surely LG provides something more comprehensive than what I've found so far...

I had the dimming issue show up in the first Avengers movie, in the chapter that takes place on the helicarrier, and it's distracting as hell. This issue is present on a C7 that a friend of mine owns.

To those that sent emails to LG can you please send me the email or link where you reported this? Thanks.

After reading about that dead pixel thing. I think I'm going to purchase extended warranty for 2 years when i pick up an 820 that's on it's way to the store in a couple days, I'm still in my 30 days of purchasing. Do they cover dead pixels? I know they guy said they cover burn in. You guys think i should do it? I'm very sensitive to things like that.

I think i have OCD or something. I wrap my remote in a microfiber cloth to prevent it from scratching along with plenty of other purchases i have. LOL

Hey gents, I just picked this TV stand up from Best Buy online in preparation for the purchase of my 55" C8 (pending every goes as planned this weekend). I wanted to make sure that the included mount will handle the C8 no problem, or will I need to buy a mounting plate to make it fit?

https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product...10265210.aspx?

On the details page:
Mounting Bolt Patterns - 800 x 400
VESA Compliant - Yes

Thanks for the help!

I went back in changed it to on and right away, it got brighter. It has not done this since. The only thing that I would complain about now{ I am not about too it either, the dimming has stopped for me}, is the fact that Oled is maxed out and the slider does nothing. I will take it though, lol.

HOW exactly did you make the service menu remember the changed settings for HDR module? Because i unplugged the tv and put it back in after an hour or so,because it wasnt saving the setting. But this also doesnt save it! I have to put HDR module from ON to OFF and then ON again for it to work again every time i turn on the tv!

Hi, i hope one of you can tell me:

I would like to know how i can see the framerate for the current content. I have several devices to show content (normal TV via Sat, Nvidia Shield, HTPC, BD Player and so on) and when i watch anything, i would like to check if the correct framerate is set. Just to know if BD movies are shown with 23,98Hz, and so on.

When i click the current HDMI device i only see the resolution, audio and video data but not the framerate. So, is there really no chance to check the rate? THX!

The issue doesn´t occur in SDR.

Yeah, The Punisher Ep8, two guys talking on a waterfront parking lot behind dark haired guy is city scape behind bald guy is parking lot, as the camera goes from one to the other there is a very slight intensity change in background lighting that I would say is from the original source of filming and nothing to do with the TV settings.

In Altered Carbon S1 Ep1 @ 22.00 - 24.00 I see the light intensity changes there but because the light intensity change behind one actor to the other is instantaneous with the camera change I don't know if I would attribute it to the TV or to the source of two cameras dealing with lighting fluctuations not compensated for properly in the editing process. (That looks to be a pretty cool show btw. Thanks for the tip to it.)

I cant' find Grand Tour on netflix.

Now, with my HDR disc of Alien Covenant opening scene in the white room with the statue David I see the fluctuations of light intensity. I had previously thought of that as my eyes adjusting to the light intensity changes. Now I understand the dimming possibility of which you speak. I had seen this happen with the previous 3.00.90 fw as well and also thought of it as my eyes being the culprit. I also without a doubt did indeed see this happen in SDR on television programs with the older fw but have not noticed it in SDR with the 4.10.05 fw so far.

So now I don't know what to say other than the light fluctuations or dimming effects are very slight for me and not bothersome at all. I've been binge watching Ozark on netflix in DV. Lots of bright lighting in backgrounds outdoors and through windows with poor lighting on actors and sets. No dimming effects whatsoever that Ive noticed all through Season 1 episodes. Just really poor cinematography and (natual?) lighting work with HDR cameras.

The settings I use on my 77" C8:

for HDR --
technical Expert (user)
oled light 70
Contrast 88
Brightness 59
Sharpness 0
color 50
tint 0
tone mapping ON
super resolution HIGH
color temp WARM1

for DV --
cinema (user)
oled light 50
contrast 96
brightness 50
sharpness 0
color 50
tint 0
super resolution HIGH
color temp MEDIUM

for SDR --
isf Expert (Dark Room)
oled light 70
contrast 88
brightness 59
sharpness 0
color 66
tint G6
super resolution HIGH
color gamut WIDE
gamma BT.1886
color temp WARM2

Pure awsomeness!

All I know is that when I woke up, that one time, it was dim as heck. I asap went into the service menu with the LG service remote and it was off, I turned it back to on it got bright, then back off, it got dark, then back on, and it was bright again! This tv can so be a pia. It just looks so good, with 4k brays and hdr games, it's worth for me to keep it. It's annoying so much to exit a ps4 game back to the Ps4 menu and its pitch dark, but in the game, it's perfect. Same as for the Xbox One X. I upgraded yesterday to 04.10.06 and the brightness got a little worse. The desktop issues went away for me. Occasionally, I will see for a split second brightness shift on these forums. Other than that, the desktop is good. Now in games and movies after the update, the brightness shift is a lot more subtle, but happens a lot more! Like I stated a few pages back, these Tv's are built with the same electronic base setup, but because the tech isn't perfected yet, Oled's can be the same to way different. My two cents anyways. I have had brightness issues since day one with this tv, I have 1300 hours on it. I have got to a point where I keep custom settings for each input and HDR input on the same input for many different things I do and watch. Like 4k brays, depending on the bray, I can have like up to 3 settings, etc. It's a royal pain, but I can live with it. No way, I will ever go back to led\lcd, etc. Most, I have memorized already!

Not to distract from the dimming discussion, but since upscaling has come up more than a few times I had the chance to take a screen shot of my TV feed last night for the show that was used yesterday - The Rookies. This what I'm seeing most of the time with my C8, looks pretty darn clean to me
If you are watching this close that's a whole other issue.

I believe you hit the settings button, then all settings. Scroll down to some of the bottom options. I think its under general, about this tv. At any rate, towards the bottom of that list somewhere is where you'll find it.

B8 must must just be different.
I'm a B8 owner too. I am currenlty on 04.10.06. I'm in the D.C. area and have not received a notification for .07 yet. It takes time to make the rounds. I have no clue what .07 will add so I'm not in a rush.

The C8 and above are on 04.10.05. My only guess is since the B8 uses last years processor, the firmware is different

As i know, you will only find the number of hours in the service menu. But to log in you need a special remote.

Thanks, but no joy. Still cannot find number of hours anywhere. Maybe my eyes are not good enough for this tv?
