@RBO , thank you for testing again. The Grand Tour would be on Amazon Prime, it is not on netflix. Are you on amazon too?
Btw, your HDR settings seem to be a little strange. The general recommendation for HDR is the setting OLED Light 100 and Contrast 100. Otherwise the literally "high dynamic" is unnecessarily cut. Lowering OLED Light or Contrast leads to cut specular highlights as well. The high range is actually the basic sense of HDR. Maybe you could try it out.
@calfcramp , all in all would you see the .06 FW as an improvement considering the delayed dimming and undimming issue?

That's what I was figuring. Thanks. I use a Harmony 700 universal remote, but I don't know if that can get me into the SM.

Oh yes, the number of hours is possible without entering the service menu. I was thinking about the number of algos and switch on and off. That is what you only find in the sm.

No problem and yes I do have Amazon prime, I just haven't used it on the set yet. I only got netflix two weeks ago.

My eyes seem too sensitive to the lighting and contrast @100 and I figured the maxed out settings were crushing whites according to my HDR calibration disc I got with my oppo player.

I'll keep experimenting though so thanks for the tips.

2018 LG C8-E8 Owners' Thread (No Price Talk)

This thread has been moving pretty fast, so I wanted to revisit a couple things:
1. I’ve had my 77C8 for a month and a half now, coming from an 80” Vizio, and absolutely and completely love it. Tons of sports and varied shows and movies from various sources, and everything looks the best that I’ve ever seen on a TV. Is some content better than others? Of course, but that totally depends on the source. Garbage in will get you garbage out, regardless of the TV. Have I noticed the occasional imperfection? Yes, I’ve noticed some banding in certain scenes, and I saw the dimming once in one scene where I went looking for it, but I’ve never actually noticed it in my normal viewing. But no TV is perfect, and this is “closest to perfect” than any other TV.
2. I was watching Outlander last night, via the TV’s onboard STARZ app, and in the past, I have noticed a slight audio sync issue via HDMI ARC. Last night, I did not notice it, which I attribute to the latest firmware update. YMMV...
3. I’ve posted these previously, but they are long buried, so here are the settings that I’m using for Technicolor Expert (what I use for most day-to-day viewing) and ISF Bright and Dark (what I use for “key” viewing of movies and shows from good sources):
Which I got here (after comparing a number of different recommended settings...thought this was the best):

Is anybody experiencing audio crackling when using the optical port, outputting PCM? It seems to be really random and sometimes I can watch like 30 minutes without ever hearing any crackling and then it happens multiples times within a minute. Already tried 4 different cables, didn't help.

Hasn't the ASBL on these sets always kind of been crap? My C7 dims in dark HDR scenes that shouldn't even trigger brightness limiting if a low light scene lasts too long...

yes this is just unacceptable because it takes away the joy, thats why i changed some settings in the service menu so that it will never dim under any circumstances.

The worst ABL HDR scene for me is Jack Ryan in the first episode starting at 34:00 minute mark. Watch the conversation as the camera cuts back and forth between Jack and Cathy. The brightness just slides up and down. I dont mind ABL but seems like for HDR it just seems off.

Are you sure you don't have some dynamic contrast or tone mapping on? It should not dim in dark scenes this is the opposite of what ABL should do. I've never seen my C8 dim in dark scenes.

That's just the default Cinema preset in Dolby Vision. It does the same thing in HDR10 mode too though. ASBL kicks in on extended low light scenes because I guess the TV things a static image is being displayed if it's dark and there's little movement.

If you want to trigger ASBL just watch the first episode of The Haunting of Hill House. It will gradually dim down during the first dark scene. It's hard to notice because it happens very gradually but at one point you're gonna be like "why are blacks suddenly so crushed??".

Guys... I honestly don't understand why you need to be so defensive. I have a healthy *like* for OLED, I've never owned an LCD television in my life. I just mentioned that reading that article was scary, not that the TV is scary, crap or anything even remotely similar. I'm not attacking you personally, you should take it easy. I'm here to understand and learn stuff, as I've always done on AVS. Nothing more. Enjoy your C8s, I'm sure I would do the same. But since money doesn't grow on trees, I try to be very careful in how I spend it. Just that.

You need to download the HTML manual, the following link gives you a zip file which contains everything. You then browse it through your regular browser by starting from userguide.html (you need to unzip all the files in a directory of your choice).

The Ranch on Netflix. Part 5 episode 5. I believe that part is from around the 13 minute mark, but the set dims over time so you might have to start like at 5 minutes and let it play for a bit.

Pressing the Settings button to bring up the menu will restore the correct brightness. It should be pretty noticeable like my video if it has dimmed.

There are many 77" user now with the price drop.......Very few complaints. What you are talking about would have to be confirmed with meter's and that has not been done that I know off....I would say there is a case of speculation out there unless some tests where done that I do not know about with meter's?

I may be seeing the opposite but the blacks in this show's first scene are extremely washed out and grey. There are no true blacks for me. Where as with Ozark everything was inky black. Hitting the menu gear button on the remote does nothing either. So I'm not seeing any dimming.

Yes blacks are somewhat elevated but once ASBL has dimmed down the picture they're suddenly crushed. Doing anything with the remote or pausing can reset the ASBL timer. You need to watch without messing around with anything if you want to trigger it.

I'm using the "cinema" preset which is quite a bit darker than "cinema home" so it might not even trigger if using one of the brighter presets.
