btw, I use optical not ARC if I want the sound from a streaming app in your TV to play in my 950. Just use the 950's remote to switch between HDMI 1 or 2 and optical (D-IN).

I use the audio out feature of my UBK90 also to connect to the soundbar. But, I also use ARC between the tv and soundbar. Optical will NOT pass Atmos though. If you don't have a soundbar with Atmos, then optical is "ok" but not for the N950.

Thanks for any info.
Cinema Home OLED LIGHT is 50

Cinema it OLED LIGHT is 100

You should be using Cinema Home for the best tone mapping IMO.

Know we're talking about HDR and dimming. But we just watched Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle in HDR10 on the 65" C8. I can say this is a gorgeously done HDR and UHD presentation. Noticed no visible dimming or brightness changes and the dynamic range and colors, black levels were simply incredible. Definitely this is great stuff to show off the OLED and HDR. Give it a shot it's a fun movie!

What is the advantage to turning Quick start OFF ?

I have been reading the whole thread and saw it around page 143-144 but no explanation to it's advantage . I may have missed it but I am not skimming pages .
Tried a search and it seems that this was the only time it was mentioned in the thread.

To preserve energy. The quick start-mode is another term for "stand-by mode", which does not completely shut off the TV but keeps it "in sleep mode", if we're speaking in Laptop terms.
To be able to start quicker than from completely off mode, the TV constantly consumes energy.

Now, why would anyone disable this? The answer is there are cultures where preserving energy as opposed to wasting it is very much encouraged and even a status symbol. I can speak for Germany where the idea is that anyone who wastes energy for superfluous things is a considered a moron or selfish *******. For those countries, a "completely off mode" is mandatory and actually an selling point for electronics.

Now, in the US where energy is dirt cheap (let's not go into why) and waste of natural resources is not a huge talking point, this function seems unnecessary.

Are you in Europe by any chance? I have a C8 and still get the "no new firmware" message here.

When watching Netflix, either through my AppleTV 4K or the internal app, a show that’s supposed to be in Ultra HD 4K comes through in Technicolor Expert mode, or ISF expert. Aren’t these SD modes? I pay Netflix for 4K and have no problem getting Dolby Vision. Did I screw up the settings somewhere?

Ultra HD 4k is SDR.

DV and HDR10 are the common HDR formats.

ETA: you are doing nothing wrong and it is working as it should

Do you have the current firmware? I had the lip sync problem on my C8 ARC to SK10 sound bar and when fed Dolby audio had lip sync then after fw update to 4.10.06 lip sync fixed.

Hey guys, I'm a new C8 owner. I received a magic remote control. I can't seem to find a way to quickly rewind or fast forward a video (youtube or other videos). There are no dedicated buttons for that.

What I would like is to just press a dedicated button once and video would jump 10 seconds for example. Press twice and it jumps 20 seconds... Now I have to highlight/move to the time bar and then press left or right which is not as convenient/quick as you have to press more buttons to achieve the same task.

Am I getting this right? How do you guys rewind and fast forward?

Well Big Ben.
I don't think that was all there was too it. It had something to do with a reset of some kind, I had never heard of this in my 50 some years in the buisness. If it was something for LG sets only I wanted to know.

I’m using a B8 so I had 4.10.06, and am now on 4.10.07.

I can feed Dolby Digital 5.1 to the soundbar no problem and without delay from all the internal apps. The problem exists only when Dolby 5.1 is coming from an external device, into the TV, then out through ARC to the Sonos soundbar.

I believe it was last week, just before I got the Sonos Beam. My understanding is they roll these updates out in batches.

If you are a C8 owner, be aware that the firmware versions appear to be different.

C8 got .05 followed rapidly by .06.
B8 got .06 followed rapidly by .07.

Great but that just leads to confusion. Different TV models may get different firmware versions. C8-E8 only please as this is an owners thread.

Apart from energy use, there are other reasons. QS standby keeps the networking alive and a couple other things. In QS mode the TV never really gets a cold reboot, and some types of bugs can survive or even accumulate. Although that's rare, its good to know that in order to get a cold boot it must be off. Even then there are a few things still active. So pulling the plug is still the only true cold boot.
