I haven't accessed that "feature" on my LG LD520 in a long time but if you think it may be useful, I can see if I can find the commands in my notes somewhere and post it (and what the menu displays). It would be interesting to see what it displays now that I'm not using the ATSC tuner for OTA (terrestrial reception via a rooftop antenna ) and just an HDMI connection from the Comcrap cable box.

Totally agree! I only watch netflix for the shows once in awhile. I don't even go to movies anymore, I wait until it comes out on UHD!

Hey, at least according to John archer article on Forbes, LG figured out the macroblocking issue and is working on a firmware update.

Bama-Clemson Title Game sure looks good on the set. Maybe it’s just the excitement of the game but ESPN/Comcast looks pretty decent tonight!

Considering going back to satellite/cable for this reason. The ESPN feed on DTVNow is terrible, especially for this game, while the ESPN app which is usually wholly unreliable has been excellent tonight. I did try Xfinity for cable TV briefly a few years ago and remember the quality not being great then either.

Definitely, as well as the watch espn app on ATV4k. Fun to compare.

New firmware coming to fix our favorite topic of discussion, guess we will have to go back to discussing settings and motion. Now if DNice makes it this weekend to calibrate my 2 displays

I found it, but its almost impossible to use.
You have to go into "Manual Channel" setup, where each channel has a "signal strength" and "signal quality". I have no idea what "Signal Quality" is supposed to mean, probably just that the tuner is able to lock and decode. You can see a 60% strength with 100% quality.
the trick here is that the channels are not displayed according to their broadcast channel number. They appear to be listed according to their UHF number. so to find the channels you receive you have to sort through 68 channels looking for them. Anyway it does work.

Great to hear a fix is even possible. Also like the fact that LG isn’t going to rush it and will give it a thorough testing. You can feel confident that a D-Nice calibration now won’t be affected by the future firmware update changing picture quality based on what John Archer was told.

You must have a setting amiss with the ATV4k or that’s a first and I missed it.

Trust DNice completely - he would never do the calibration if that was a possibility or would offer a plan b as he earned his great reputation based on service/results.

Figured it out. I had the "match dynamic range" and "match frame rate" in the ATV4k settings still on "off," which is the default. So it was converting everything to Dolby Vision. I had to turn these to "on" so whatever is the netflix source is reproduced faithfully.

Does anybody have an issue with Netflix on ATV4k appearing dull on the C8? The picture looks great on Directv, but when I watch Netflix it is a duller picture. (I am using the Technicolor Expert mode). If I switch Dynamic Contrast to Medium or High, it seems to be a lot better. But then when I go back to Directv, I need to switch back.

Anybody else notice this with Netflix on ATV4k and if so, is there an easier fix than switching on and off the Dynamic Contrast setting on the C8?

Depends on what you are watching. Some shows are intentionally dark/“dull”. Ozark for instance is a DATK show even in daylight. The filter they use also kind of dulls out the color palate.

I was watching The Office. It appears very different on the ATV4k than it does on Directv.

Oh me too. I got like around 15 UHD Blu-Rays this month but I can only watch 4,,, while I wait for the Nakamichi firmware upgrade to Dolby Atmos (and vision).... I will say that the DTS:X discs I have are insane and look freaking amazing on the LG 65C8.

I'm less irritated about the FW wait now, Since I walked right into the male wire of one of the subwoofers and broke the male tip off inside. I tried some youtube tricks but it does not want to come out... but at least my mind has been taken off of the firmware update and waiting.

I can't believe I did something like THAT. Breaking off the tip in the stupid RCA and cannot get it out. If anyone as some extra special sauce trick before I try to replace the RCA female, oh god, please see this and help.

It wasn't noticeable before I pulled off the plastic protective film. I went back and looked at display models in stores, and they all have a little distortion of this nature. I can't see any geometric distortion in displayed images, but it bugs me anyway, just knowing it's there. That being said, it seems to be the nature of the beast, and returning it may not result in any noticeable improvement.

On another note, tempting as it may be to use the magic mouse to entertain your cat, do not do this. The plastic surface of the screen is softer that a cat's claws.

Once you see the wavy reflection you can’t unsee it. My eyes would always go to the bottom edge when the display was off. Doesn’t matter anymore as it’s already boxed up waiting to be picked up.

It’s the AR filter, not the screen being bent. Depends on what angle you sit at changes how wavy it looks.
