Is there a way to check total hours of use on the TV? Perhaps that can show if it was used.

The thumbnail image shows where to find the plastic strips on the back.

To check hours of power on for a US model got to Settings => General => TV Information => About this TV =< Hours On , something like thatand European models you have to look for Hours on in the Service Menu.
Thanks. Ya no plastic strips on the back. But total hours of usage is only 1. Weird. I heard you can reset total hours of usage in the service menu though. I'm gonna exchange this just to be safe.

That is weird. How long would you say you have had it powered on? Less than an hour? If more, then something else isn't right there either. Returning it though is your call, but I would want to do so also. Good luck with the replacement.

The LG C8 is not as bright as the Samsung Q8 you cannot argue that it really is a fact. However I have personally owned the Q8 and Q9 and I have had major light bloom and dse on both tvs which I could not get over which is I why I went with the C8. I can tell you that I have not noticed the difference in brightness at all. The LG has NO DSE at all. I still squint during lightning on the C8 as I did with the Q8 and Q9. This really comes down to your personal preference I think for what problems you want to deal with.

New C8

Just ordered the C8 65” from PC Richards. The price was too good to pass up!

Looking for some advice on threethings.
1. Any suggestions on a good sound bar? Most of my viewing is regular television but I do like having the ability to crank up a movie or big sports event. I’d like to take advantage of the Atmos. Any suggestions? I’m trying to keep the price around $500.
2. How about settings? My room is pretty dark. And, again, I watch a lot of sports and movies via directtv. Rtings seems like good place to go, but I was wondering if anyone had any “insider” information I should consider when setting up the set.
3. Lastly, I currently have a Samsung UBD-KM85 4K Blu-ray player. It’s about 3 years old but works great. Would I see any improvement in getting a new 4K player? (I don’t mind spending a little money to take full advantage of what this tv can do!)

As always, thanks!

Wall Mounting C8 77"

I plan to mount the TV (that is due to arrive on Tuesday) on an existing articulating wall mount. Based on the user manual the VESA pattern for this TV is 400mm x 200mm.

I'm trying to gauge the height of this TV above the floor when mounted.

Could someone please let me know the distance(height) of the lower(or upper) pair of wall mount screws relative to the top or bottom of the panel?

I was hoping to find an engineering drawing or something similar for this TV with this info but could not.

Couple of more questions about wall mounting the C8 77":
1) Once the TV is mounted on an articulating wall mount, is it safe to push the TV back toward the wall by applying pressure on the two opposite horizontal sides of the TV? I ask because it requires substantial force to push the articulating mount flush with the wall (against the friction of the mount hinges). If not, what is the safest way to push and pull the TV on the wall mount to the back or front on an occasional basis?

2) Is it OK to lift the TV by the bottom of the thin panel while setting the TV on the wall mount?

into anything! The X1500H is from the 2017/18-spec range, with no support for eARC.
The X1600H (2019) will (probably) have support for eARC, one of the HDMI 2.1 features. (the X3500H and above already do support eARC: from the 500's, only the the 2500 and 1500 don't have it - and normally the features from the previous year's higher models "trickle down" the range to the lower models).

Then in 2020 the X1700H (and all the other Yx700 models) will probably have the same full HDMI 2.1 support that the "flagship" X8500H will get this year when it gets its HDMI upgrade (a bit like the X7200W to X7200WA upgrade gave that model HDMI2.0a support)

I know you've checked, but are you really sure? Shine a light on the back and look for reflections. The film is almost invisible, with no tags or anything. If the hours used wasn't at 0 I wouldn't even ask as they would have been caught red-handed selling you a second hand TV as if it were new (isn't that illegal in America? It is here).

Am I crazy? I want to use my new LG C8 as a computer monitor. I'm not gonna use it for like excel spreadsheets or anything. I use my PC as my media device. So Gaming, Netflix, Surfing the web, etc.

Is anyone else in here using it for the same thing?

Yes. I use it as my pc monitor. The PC is my only source for watching content . But I set OLED Light to 0 and contrast to 30 (when surfing the web ) and I never had burn-in , 0 issues in this regard. Also turn on "Automatically hide the Taskbar ". I have this TV almost a year and lots of hours use …

Glad to hear it. I don't watch regular TV anymore. So PC media is my primary source. Would be so sad if I could only use the C8 for watching Blu-rays and cable TV.

Take precautions, as @Dreamer2018 does, use the "logo luminance adjustment" feature, and watch out for things like the windows Start icon or Clock being burned in.

Should I set Logo Luminace to High? I also set the toolbar to auto hide. Screensaver set to 5 minutes.

ok one more: anyone heard of articulating motorized wall mounts compatible with the larger OLEDs for sale in the US?

EIDT: idea is that normally the TV would be flush with the wall, but when watching a movie, you could move the TV closer to you by a foot or two, this making the TV "bigger"

Can I force flash the US firmware from some back end connection? Or is that file the same and the 5GHz limitation a hardware one?
The european model has a different tuner and some different features than the north american version. The hardware is slightly different. You can not in any way use the firmware from one on the other.

I would if I were you, yes. Sadly I think that Low/High only affects the speed it works, not the amount by which it dims. However after various firmware updates, I do see more of an effect but mainly on my PVR's menus. It's rarely visible in actual content as its edges are feathered pretty subtly. But you should experiment and see what you think

Indeed. It won't let you, even if you rename the file and set up your own local server (like a few of us did to get the 4.10.20 firmware early). It checks the contents and details thoroughly, and rejects a firmware from the wrong "zone".
Samsung has only 3 World "zones" for their TV chassis, I expect LG would be very similar in that regard. So there would only be 3 different files built, to cover all the TVs. (NB: completely different from "regions" for the Smart apps, there are about 25 of those).

Over 3000 hours with my Eg9600, pc gaming and web surfing and no burn in. Over 1200 on the C8. Same PC, again no issues. I came from plasma and have been used to taking care of a panel, so the idea of "coddling" a tv wasn't a turn off. HDR gaming at high resolution is sublime on OLED.

Not crazy at all..I had a 55 inch EC9300 before my C8 and used that as a computer monitor and now use my C8 as one..works great..never have had any temporary image retention or burn in issues. I probably should hide the task bar but don't do it

Any best practices you guys can recommend? Someone already said I should set the Logo Luminace Setting to High. Any other recommendations for PC use?

Take breaks and let the compensation cycle run every four hours. Don't be afraid of running the pixel refresher if you think you need to. Use screensavers on your pc. If you're using Win 10, I recommend the ribbons saver. Looks fabulous in the dark!

No, but then not everybody has (or wants) a 5.1, 7.1 or Atmos setup. The answer isn't always "go drop $800+ on a new AVR so everything can run through it because that's the way I do it for my Atmos system". Just pointing out there are alternative methods to use an existing AVR with a C8 if HD audio is not a priority.

I also see blown out colors on the Q8 where as the OLED you see all the detail. This guy is hilarious. He said OLED is really bad for movies, laughable.
He's spent 20 minutes continually saying "this is the OLED" vs "this is the QLED" - but the only thing he's ever testing is SDR! This is a comparison that could have been done in 2012.

So, where's the HDR version of this video?

It is true that at high luminance, the colours do de-saturate more quickly for us because of the White sub-pixel the TV loses the relationship from R,G,B signal. He only glosses over this real cause at 14:10 in the first video.

Spoiler!

But with careful calibration - and you can always bump up the colour saturation to compensate - there really isn't that problem.

EDIT: just watched his C8 max brightness video. What a charlatan - he mentions "underhand tricks" then measures:
a 50% window, not a 10% window, in SDR mode.
left it up for the duration - so after 30 seconds the TV will have enabled ABL and be much dimmer than it was at first.

Just got $550 back from Costco on the 65 C8 I purchased there on Superbowl Sunday. Thanks to those who mentioned the recent price drop! I didn't expect it to be that much, but very glad I decided to check!!

What do people do on movies with raised blacks? Seems like older movies often have it. Do you just adjust the brightness?

Contrast and OLED light must both be maxed in HDR10/HLG modes, otherwise the internal tone-mapping algorithms (both for brightness and the wide colour gamut) will not be correct.

For SDR modes, thankfully it's only the crazy modes that no-one sane would use (Vivid and Sport) that have a default of Contrast=100, IIRC. All others have default 85.

HTH
What is the recommended CONTRAST setting for Dolby Vision on the LG C8? (I know OLED LIGHT is 50). Is a CONTRAST setting of 100 ok for Dolby Vision?

Yes Contrast 100 is the only setting you should ever use for all forms of HDR. Otherwise the TV's tone-mapping algorithm will be off.
These (Contrast, Brightness, OLED Light) are all the defaults. Don't touch these settings in the HDR modes

Thanks for confirming! So just to be sure, for HDR10 content (not Dolby Vision), CONTRAST and OLED LIGHT should both be set to 100, right?

So, where's the HDR version of this video?

It is true that at high luminance, the colours do de-saturate more quickly for us because of the White sub-pixel the TV loses the relationship from R,G,B signal. He only glosses over this real cause at 14:10 in the first video.

Everything about quantum apotheosis or whatever he calles himself, is a FRAUD.. He for some reason has been bashing oleds for his
whole sad youtube stint..He claims to be a professional calibrator, yet he hides his name and wont give out any contact info. He bought a $9 light meter from ebay, and that's literally the only calibration tool he owns,. The only reason he's even got 10k subs is that he constantly inserts HDTV'S name into his subject line of his videos, then calls Vince and Rtings liars,, just to boost his own sub count.. Youtube already took his site down last year,, now hes back at it again.. DONT LISTEN TO ANYTHING HE SAYS,, HE IS NOT A CALIBRATOR..He's just a talentless nobody that likes to run his mouth,,

Panasonic ST60 60"

(a bunch of tv's in between)
