The above two replies show why it's great that we all have a choice

Play a HDR video while you toggle it on and off, and see for yourself. You may prefer Motion Pro off with HDR, to get the brightness. Or you may not think that the drop in brightness is as much as I think! But unfortunately you can't have both - this is one area where the 2019 models are apparently much better.

When watching 4k DV movie (Everest) through my Sony 700 Blu Ray player, the Info screen on the LG shows 2160p. TV is a 65" C8.

Does that mean I am getting the highest resolution possible?

TV Picture Mode defaults to Cinema Home for DV movies.

Is that what most people are using?

Yes that’s 4k resolution Cinema Home is a brighter daytime mode , Cinema is one that is closer to reference .

I toggled between Cinema and Cinema Home and liked Cinema better, before I posted my questions. Guess I'll keep Cinema.

Thanks.

Thanks.

I use a slightly modified Cinema Home for Comcast cable tv (HDTV local stations only) and slightly modified Technicolor Expert for streaming (ATV4k) and UHD blu-ray movies (UBK90).

I never trust an atom, they make up everything.

Is it a bad idea to fiddle with brightness settings when coming across movies with raised blacks (1080p SDR)? I'm quite sure I have RGB set to limited for both source and TV. With this TV and it's perfect blacks seeing raised blacks just stands out a lot.

Thank you!
I was convinced that TrueMotion should be off. Most of my viewing was showing that any setting was introducing an unnatural appearance to anything film based. Now after several months viewing a variety of content, I have found some instances where setting De-Judder to 3 and De-Blur to 0 offers the slightest bit of smoothing when a scene has long, highly detailed panning. For now I'm staying with this setting as the best compromise for my taste.

I agree. I've always left TruMotion disabled for all content but it is a personal thing. I leave Real Cinema (some folks confuse that with motion interpolation) enabled for UHD blu-ray movies. There are users who are really sensitive and need a little motion interpolation help.

Oh I get that. It's just sometimes when it's the content, I nudge the brightness down to 48 or so just so the blacks become pure black, since that's what I've gotten used to

^you might be sacrificing some detail but I wouldn't know since panel variance can play a role. I keep my brightness at 51 and it's perfect there. You can try a calibration disk to help you set your brightness, there are also some tools you can use here on AVS, but I'm unable to provide links. My first oled drive me nuts with the brightness setting, but once you settle you should be fine...hth.

a good formula to fine tune with the brightness and have a good level of blacks and a high gamma, is to slightly stimulate the brightness of the iré 5, choose a high gamma makes the detail in shadow is compromised, raise a few points (5 p) the luminosity of I go 5 causes us to have magnificent blacks at the top of the scale and a magnificent detail in shadows.

My sick but lovely C8 65 inch going back to the store . This is the 2nd OLED that I am returning back due to problems with screen & the 2nd one screen issue plus motherboard issue where the TV turns off by itself every half hr & the Apps doesn't work. The 2nd TV was manufactured in Mexico on Jan 2019 . Look at the thin black horizontal line in the middle of the screen .

Of course I have two choices they said .
1: they will send someone & 2: take it back to the store . My thing with LG is if they came to the house what kind of warranty would I be getting tho they said I get a new TV if they can't fix it. Why should I settle for a repaired TV after spending 2k plus. What if I run into the same issue again for the 3rd time .

^^ There have been people on this thread who have had LG come out to look at it and I have not heard of any issues after that. But I do agree with the +2K expense they should send a replacement.

Had my C8 ISF calibrated just to be sure I wasn't missing something. The calibrator said that high end sets like these are very close to dialed in out of the box that very little is gained from calibration. The sets may benefit from calibration in their viewing environment.

2018 LG C8 does NOT support DNLA

I though streaming would be easy :-)

After multiple calls to LG support, they confirm that the C8 does NOT support DNLA.

The "Smart Share" (note 2 words) is miracast however there is no DNLA client on the TV.

Switching gears ...........does anyone know of a app / approach that allows a LAN connected LG C8 TV to directly access and play video media on router connected WD MyCloud NAS (which does have Twonky ....but is underpowered to play high end /4 K videos). Perhaps WebOS / SMB / Samba ?

You might be able to achieve what you're trying to do with Plex. You will want to then play through the Photos and Video app on the TV. Don't bother with the LG Store Plex app, it doesn't work very well.

Pretty accurate out of the box, huh?
Here is my C8 at default settings and after a basic 20-Point calibration:

Sure, mine is probably a special case, but still...

Whoaat, theee??? DLNA definitely works between my miniDLNA server (running on Gentoo Linux with pretty much default config) and LG C8 PLA (EU version). It's automatically listed on the Sources menu (below the last HDMI input), no configuration or manual search required ("Plug and Play" as they used to call this back when it was standardized). Even works with HDR10 videos.

Edit: Sorry. May be you didn't just just misspell DLNA as DNLA but you actually want DNLA? (What's that?)

I am considering upgrading my LG OLEDC7 to LG OLEDC8, for one reason mainly which is to address colour graduation waves on lower quality streaming content. Please may I ask owners that have experience on both 2017 C7 OLED and the 2018 C8 OLED, if graduation processing has been dramatically improved?

I don’t expect it to be at Sony level, but is it enough to hide the colour waves.
